I think not.

I say the amount of money some users lost with Phase5 is far greater. & the prepaymets for the G3 cards that never came.

Or the huge prepayments with the Boxer.

These are facts the time have come & gone for them to see if ppl will get the product to wich they payed for.

The £50 coupon & the products for wich it is for have not yet run their course.

If when the AOne/Aos4 are released tthe ppl who payed the £50 dont get what they have payed for then yes your right.

If Aone/Aos4 dont come out & the ppl dont get the money back then yes your right.

But untill then your making 100% pure Assumsions.

I would hardly call Club Amiga Magazine a scam.

I have no Amiga hardware or software and that has been the case for several years. I
traded it for a Mac SE ( sigh!) to help my non technical Dad have a ?simple? computer to
use.

I did buy an SDK to get money to the young new Amiga Inc. and never even opened it
....I?m not a developer. I also joined Club Amiga to ?donate? $50 to Amiga Inc. to show
potential investors there was a viable community out there.

The Club Amiga Magazine was an unexpected bonus. BTW nice job Ray and thanks for the effort!

But I think we need to spread the word to as many people as possible, I know I wouldn?t
feel cheated if Club Amiga Magazine, in some form, was released to everyone - a bit latter perhaps.

Just my $.02
Bob C.

Just a reminder about the whole club thing, seems like people have forgotten:

Quote:

After the fallout from the Microsoft deal had cleared, Amiga Inc. faced a dilemma on the home front. By June it was becoming increasingly obvious that the Amiga market required some method of promoting OS4 in light of the great strides that Thendic had made with MorphOS. There was also the issue of the upcoming AmigaOne launch. Though the product would sell, no one was certain of the number that would actually be sold. A simple survey would work, but could be sabotaged by malicious individuals. To solve both problems, Amiga Inc. announced the ?AmigaOne/AmigaOS 4.0 "Free Stuff" Early Promotion?. The promotion was essentially a coupon scheme ? the individual would pay $50 to register their interest for AmigaOne/AmigaOS 4.0. This would entitle the purchaser to a $50 discount on the product when it was launched and a ?free? T-shirt. Though the announcement was well intentioned, it fell foul to international laws that banned coupon schemes.

I'm convinced about one thing: the coupon action was to get money to survive as a company. Nothing more, nothing less. To me, this is a scam.

It would not have been if they said: Look, we have no money and we are on the virge of going under. Can you support us with money?

They even lack the respect to print a t-shirt for the people that supported them.

I find this one of the worst moments in Amiga history. Moreover because they haven't managed to come up with anything since they own the IP. And remember why the coupon action was lauched: to see how much interest there is in AmigaOne. How cheap is this as excuse.

Tell this to someone outside the Amiga scene...

And by the way, i'm not a troll. All i care when being here, is the future of the best computer ever. And it is not in good hands.

I hope they keep their hands of OS4.

And you just *assume* that the T-shirt will never come, and that this is out of lack of respect for the people who have supported them? When I finally get the money and the smegging T-shirt, I hope you will be prepared to eat your words.

Only if we don't get the $50 rebate

Some how I don't think that 1200 members giving $50 would be enough to "raise" money for them to survive.

50 x 1200 = $60,000

That would last what a month maybe 3 at the most?

I will admit that I am somewhat annoied at not having got my t-shirt yet, and being given excuse after excuse. But I will only consider it a "scam" when OS4 is out and I am unable to clame my $50 rebate and still have not recived the tee.

Until then, why not give them the benfit of the doubt in this regard and wait until OS4 appears?

And if you didn't pay the $50 why do you care so much, it is my money and i'll spend it on who and what I like

For the record, this is my current situation in Club Amiga:
- I took advantage of the Club Amiga lifetime membership deal and paid them $50
- I am to receive $50 off the purchase of an AmigaOne (i.e. hardware+AmigaOS 4.0)

For me, there is no scam unless they balk on the $50 refund. Since that hasn't happened yet, I have nothing to complain about. Except maybe for the fact that I'm not getting any interest from that $50 after all the time that has passed.

First off I think there is a bit of a misconception or a faliure to sort out 1st grade math, the Cupons would always be at a loss(Amiga would not make any money off it) also while I do agree that the Tshirt issue could have been handled better(in fact the hole thing could) BUT untill OS4 gets out the door the kind of critisism the company gets is both premature and quite harsh.

Also Im sorry to disapoint you z5 but Amiga Inc. is involved with the Amiga OS4 project and its future ;D

premature as in there havent been any faliure yet per se, its been handled badly though.
A faliure would be if OS4 shipped and no T´s or rebates materialized, as neither have happend yet I say its a bit premature.

One thing which has striked me the most these last couple of months during the time when the trolls started to make major inroads onto general Amiga forums, was that Club members generally behaved reasonable, calm and emphasizing their support for keeping the focus on delivering the AmigaOS4 product.

While the people creating most of the fuss, insults and attacks regarding these delays, almost none of them actually joined the club and have continuously expressed that they would have no desire to ever do so in advance!

@Kay

Thanks for the welcome :)

for the rest:

I think the $50 it just a matter of prespective. I don't really care about the T-Shirt or even the rebate. I've paid because I don't want to see what computing will miss if the Amiga dissapears.

I've been in "Windows Land" since 1998, I only had Amigas before that. I hate it here in "Windows Land". I want to go back to the soothing world of Amiga computing. Pretty much anyone who would say they were going to provide an Amiga-like experience on new hardware would get my money and support. At the time I joined the Club, only Amiga Inc. had said anything like that. They had me with them right after the St. Louis show where OS 4.0 was announced.

I don't care about the money, or the shirt and the CAM is a nice unexpected bonus. I am not even worried about the delays along the way. Let them work on it "until it is ready". Just knowing they are still at it comforts me.

Save me from this desolation that is "Windows Land"! Just like most of us, all I want is an AmigaOne and OS 4.0.

@Z5
>it is the biggest scam in the amiga history.

I really don't understand this type of comments. To define this as a scam one has to believe that Amiga had never any intention of honoring it, they just wanted the money and run away with it. Quite frankly there's more money to be made in a Mc Donald's robbery. Seriously, Why is it so hard for you to understand that in the real world, and definitely in the Tech Industry, things don't always go as planned? When Amiga came up with the club and the coupon AmigaOS4 was believed (By Amiga as much as by Hyperion) to be very close to be released. Things came up that nor Amiga, neither Hyperion could have thought of. It's not the end of the world, life goes on and when the time comes those t-shirts will be mailed and the coupon will be honored.
Amiga has spent way more money than what they have earned, not really the behavior of your typical scam artist.

Then I'm afraid you don't understand the meaning of the word "scam"

>Moreover because they haven't managed to come
>up with anything since they own the IP

Hmmm let's see... since April 23 2002 (less than one year ago) there have been 2129 messages in the SDA list, all by developers, maybe you want us to believe that they're just talking about the weather?
Keep believing that what you don't see doesn't exist.

I think there are lots of people out there who are not willing to pay $50 for monthly news, or to support Amiga Inc. this way by handing out money. I have done it before but no more, that kind of blind support Amiga Inc. hasn't earned, yet.
I prefer supporting by buying the actual products.

Of course, if you don't want to join the club then don't join the club. IMO it's as simple as that, but there is no need to attack people who did join the club.

The Amiga Club idea was inspired by AmigaZone. If you did not like AmigaZone, then don't join AmigaZone I would say. If you don't want Total Amiga Magazine, I would say: don't buy Total Amiga Magazine and so on.

The fact is that there are people who like the deal they were presented. They now have a lifetime membership or will get a membership to the club for a year (Online Mag, Special Deals, etc) , while those who have joined during the special offer period will receive their money back when they buy their next Amiga and additionally will get a T-Shirt as a bonus. However if you don't want this, then don't get this.

Since when I have attacked anyone about it? Please take a look at http://www.ann.lu/comments2.cgi?show=1049288897&category=forum&number=74 for example.

The club was inspired because coupon-deal was illegal. Theres nothing more to it.

Of course. How can I forbid anyone to spend their money as they want? If it makes people happy, great. I rather support by buying actual products instead of promises.

I don't understand why *you* take offence of my comments directed towards those people who have attacked Club members for joining the Amiga club.

Nonesense, the Amiga Club deal was since day 1 about the Amiga Club. The coupons and T-shirts were deal sweeteners.

Exactly. Buy what you want to buy, as simple as that.
