yes,it is actually in fact nitpicking...

˝reading between the lines˝ and ˝weighting every possible word written˝ is really getting tiresome to a lot of us here

Don't Hyperion only have the rights to OS4, OS4.1 and 4.whatever, while Amiga Inc. have OS5? Which'll be different +i386 based anyway?

come on, everyone knows that OS5 will just be AROS rebranded and flogged for $$$.

The licence allows it.

Off topic but I dont see the above as baiting? I see the above as simply stating what many feel to be true. Amiga inc no longer have the respect of the majority and many (at least whom I have spoken with) are of the opinion that OS 5 will indeed be AROS.

The wording of the press release is very interesting, and it appears to have been worded in such a way as to attract the attention of Amiga inc. It will be interesting to see what Amiga inc say. Already this announcement has created (intentionally or unintentionally, though I feel more likely the latter) much speculation and added to the doubt of who owns what.. Amiga inc will no doubt respond.

There is soo much secrecy involved too. It's such a soap opera.

we can only speculate at this point...but it seems to me
that AInc and Hyperion finally had an agreement about OS 4,otherwise they couldn't include it into their strategic partnerships with ACube
and it is almost certain that any hardware developed by ACube will run OS 4 licensed, because in fact they are as from now on a worldwide distributor...

speculation ˝on˝:

futhermore I believe that Hyperion, licensed, will be developing 4.x upgrades as AInc property from now on,and that version 4.0 stays within Hyperions copyright(as the news item clearly states)
to me this sounds as a good agreement conclusion,a logical one...

speculation ˝off˝

You're right about the nitpicking!

It was the same with the 'It's done!' announcement. The problem is, people are very tentative to place their hopes in any announcement at this stage of the Amiga drama. Its COMPLETELY understandable (unless its obviously just hate).

I'm wondering if ACube makes $500,000 in revenue/year... No, just kidding! This is another piece of good news and I believe its just going to take time for new Amigas to come out now.

I almost went back into hibernation after the 'It's done!' and then the long silence. I appreciate this tiniest morsel of good news- it feeds the PATIENCE algorithm that was getting buggy and ready to crash.

So, I'm going to relax, stow away some cash while waiting (wish I had started that 10 years ago BTW) and hold tight. Why get wound up over it? At the very least its a crack in the legal ice that froze over everything for a while. I think that's a safe presumption right?

@ neonlite

Language is powerful, words have meaning. Language can make or break a situation, a careful choice of words can prevent wars - hence we have diplomats.

"Hyperions OS 4" and no mention of Amiga inc, not even in the footnote, is going to cause speculation. So this is not nitpicking.

It doesn't matter what they write, or how they word it, somehow, somewhere, someone will find something to nitpick on or find some sort conspiracy and speculation will always happen no matter what.

Rubbish - of course it matters. We're not talking about missinterpretation or reading between the lines - they do not recognise Amiga inc in this press release, and refer to OS 4 as their own. I'm not reading between the lines - simply reading the actual words. I now wait to see what Amiga inc has to say for themselves.

Congrats! First the CPU repair biz and now a distribution deal. Keep going and best of luck!

P.S. No banana until you ship some hardware. Sorry but I don't make the rules.

so,what you're saying seer is...

ther is NO possible WAY to write a perfectly clear, understandable,˝without a doubt˝ news item to Amiga community?

hmm,I tend to agree on this

well,I can understand better now why there's absolutely NO word from AInc,and very rarerly from Hyperion or ACube...
even if there is sth to say.

you can't decline...
WE DID IT TO OURSELVES...

all by nitpicking...

@bob

you REALLY think they would RISK a lawsuit, going behind AINC's back with this Acube relationship?!

no,I think you're getting it all wrong

I'm almost certain that the baffle between AInc and Hyperion is solved

@Bobsonsirjonny

See what neonlite said. If they worded it differently people would find something else to jump on, they always do. (Note I'm not blaming anybody, it's like neonlite said)

So, if they hadn't said Hyperion's Amiga OS 4.0 all was well ?

It's made by them right ? So it is Hyperion's Amiga OS 4.0, under license by Amiga Inc, like the news item said. That's another way of reading the news.

I don't expect Rogue (but maybe m3x) to come in and bother to tell us what the meaning behind the words really is tho.

Some more frigging information would be a nice start... all thats happening is everyone is running around like headless chickens speculating from the rooftops.

I'm not saying this announcement is a non-starter, but it's a bit bloody brief.

Assuming that Hyperion just said "You know what? F--- Amiga Inc. Let's light this candle." then all of y'all cheering about the liberation of OS4 better understand that this might be the last nail in the coffin: one injunction from now and NOBODY is selling OS4 until the dust settles, and when it settles, will there be anyone left to care?

Now assuming that Hyperion, ACube (which is the name of a mini-PC case too, isn't it?), and all others concerned DID get permission from Amiga Inc. then I wish they'd flat out say so.

Not doing so at the outset is...troubling.

If Hyperion owns OS4, then what are they licensing from Amiga, Inc? Maybe just the name AmigaOS. I wonder who owns the original source code.

I am pleased to see some news. It had all gone quiet for quite some time...

The wording is very interesting indeed. I don't think people are nitpicking though. We all know that there has been/still is some kind of dispute between Amiga Inc and Hyperion so we know that any statements from either party are going to be written very carefully with every word being thought about.

All of the hardware platforms listed are out of production with no hope of new ones being produced... so there is no chance of ACube distributing Hyperion's OS4 for those platforms. You have to ask then, which platforms will they distribute it for? (apart from classic hardware that is). New ones?

Or is this really some sabre rattling from Hyperion in an attempt to cajole Amiga Inc into making a move....
