Initially, two systems will be produced that address two different market needs. The first is a consumer entry design that will offer a complete product with a target price point of $500.00, while the second will be of a power design that would have a target price point of $ 1,500.00. The PowerPC architecture will continue to be the architecture of choice for these new systems.

The above implies that there will be 2 complete "Systems".

If this is true then $500 and $1500 is not that bad of a deal for complete ready to go systems.

@all
Dietmar has summed things up nicely. So, which one of the following are YOU?

Viewer #1: Finally some good news about the weather (dancing bananas)!!!
Viewer #2: Ugg, very suspicious. He didn't specifically mention that it will not rain, did he?
Viewer #3: Yeah. that's weird. An he did not say that it's a forecast for us, they didn't even mention a country.
Viewer #4: And what does he mean by tomorrow? No speficic time was given, just like yesterday. It's always tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.
Viewer #5: Maybe they are just saying this to p*ss of the other weather channels?
Viewer #6: Yuck, what a map. Colors are totally odd. I have drawn better clouds in kindergarten.
Viewer #7: wohoooo great news ... that is reason for beer :)
Viewer #8: Well i dunno, not gonna build my hopes up with this but if it gets sunny, i`ll buy a beer, too.
Viewer #9: Still, I miss a similar forcast on this site, and on this site and on this site. Forecasts concerning weather are usually quite similar. I would at least expect some traces of similarity somewhere, in some form.
Viewer #10: I'm sceptical, too. Too many botched forecasts. If we see anything of the sun this week, I will not be surprised -- I'll be utterly dumbfounded. It just won't happen. Speaking of weather channel viewers -- are there any left? Talk about a group that's been mistreated for decades. I can imagine a great big yawn from the so-called "wheather men".
Viewer #10: Hmmm... I'm very sceptical. If I recall correctly this guy told some major porkies to some people concerning gobal warming..
Viewer #11: Why is he alwaays looking at the map? He should look us in they eye. At least we could see his face while he's making those forecasts or something... just an idea...

My only question is what exactly does "Amiga Operating System" mean in that press release. We all know Hyperion and Amiga Inc. have not been the best of friends in the past when they went public with their dispute. Keeping in mind Amiga Inc. could label anything an "Amiga Operating System" if they felt like it I am nervous this may mean the end of Amiga OS 4.0 and a whole lot of sad OS4 devs and users.

I've had enough announcements of announcements so I don't really care about the rest of it.

And no banana dance until product delivery.

Why not just give Adam a call and ask? In previous messages, you mentioned that you had his phone number.

I think it's hilarious that the new Amiga might be born in Fonthill!

I'm originally from the area, and Fonthill is... how to put it... rural. It's a one-horse village clinging to the edge of a town you probably never heard of (Welland) and in the same region as Niagara Falls.

When I was growing up in a town nearby, playing with my Amiga, if you had ever told me that the Amiga would be produced in Fonthill, I would have fallen over.

Our hardware developers aren't exactly in 7th heaven over this non-announcement either.

This was probably a rhetorical question by ssolie.

@ssolie

If Amiga and ACK delivers something different to Hyperions OS4 and at the same time stops Hyperion from distributing/sell OS4, that would probably result in a boycott of Amiga and a LOT of bad press.

I guess all parties are well aware of what is at stake here (IMHO last chance for AmigaOS) and have come to an agreement that all can benefit from. I know this is wishful thinking but I really can't see them f... things up again.

In that we would make absolutely certain it's impossible for them to avoid it in any business transaction by *really* spreading it over the web, not just by half-arsed trolling attempts by a some.

True but I'll believe the Amiga Inc. hardware offering when I see it.

I agree with you. I think those that downplayed the trouble between AInc and Hyperion have been wrong, unfortunately. It looks to me like AInc is posturing for control of OS4 and is not really serious about a desktop solution. Just the fact the dispute became public was a bad sign and this latest is only worse. Of course I am a pessimist when it comes to all things Amiga.

Not much different but a bigger problem if you have a product to sell. Amiga doesn't have any real products now (check the # of downloads f.ex. Invasion have at Handango) IMHO, only old games that I doubt have sold very much even when they were new.

Hardware and OS development costs money and if they really launch a product there's gonna compete with (or shut down) OS4 I think they will be hit real hard economically as I doubt it will sell much in or outside of the Amiga community.

Still I think all parties must have come to an agreement as everything else would be plain stupid and kill our last chance of survival.

Now that would certainly be a sad twist of fate.

It has begun

Arstechnica (our own Jeremy Reimer) has posted this.

If amiga inc screws this up, people won't just laugh at them.

This is not a market anyway, so in what way would they be bothered by that? No-one could make a living out of the current "Amiga Market", no-one is (least of all Amiga Inc) and a boycott wouldn't be noticed by anyone. That's how tiny and insignificant this market is.

I have a feeling that this announcement of a forthcoming announcement that they have been working on for the last year is actually more to do with trying to show lawyers that they have been doing something.

Its far too easy to imagine the next annoucement will be late and it will annouce something due in 6 months that will be late/never happen.

Plus I am sure Bill claimed to not announce anything unless there was "product" to ship.
