No, but you have to register at that site first. Personally, I don't want to make infinite profiles on every site I'm only going to visit once.

Looks like you have found the right time to sell it .I wish i had kept one of my ppc cards .It still seems funny releasing for the classic amiga when there are not many cards made and some of the ones that were made must have died by now .X86 would be the best way forward due to a mass of cheap hardware it opens the os up to so many more people that otherwise might not of bothered and it seems to be working for apple .

*sighs*

Yes, yes... we've been iterating this at least 10^6 times already, and just stating it again is totally redundant. Yes, I know, yes, I would like to see it being ported to other PPC hardware like macs, and yes, I'd like to port it to x86, but please, re-iterating the same obvious crap over and over doesn't help at all, it's like the 100ths mention of "we need Firefox" or "we need OpenOffice" - blatantly obvious.

Digg is a mainstream technology news site. Without more diggs the word on OS 4.0's classic release might not be known outside the community. If everyone that is a member of this site dugg the story it would have the most diggs of all.

Wellcome new users! Running os4 from 2004 at least and really need new Ones.
Now if the Friedens brothers have time to check their mail... pertti needs his license back for os4:) The boxes look really nice, hope we get some too for the A1:s. Maybe a small price for an upgrade with manuals?

Well, because it would help AmigaOS4, I created an account at Digg.com and voted for our OS, despite my reservations about creating countless barely-used accounts across the Internet.

Or at least I tried to:

The first trouble is in Digg.com's Terms of Service. Paragraph two gives them the right to change the user agreement willy-nilly whenever they please without even mailing us that the agreement has been changed; it's our obligation to visit their site frequently to keep up with their changes. And if they can't be bothered to mail us of changes, what do they need our e-mail address for?

Their agreement promises that they won't sell our address to third parties, but doens't promise that we won't get advertising from Digg.com. (And let us not forget paragraph two of Digg.com's Terms of Service. They're free to change the terms to permit selling our address just as soon as it suits their purposes to do so.) I used a disposable web-based e-mail, just for that reason.

The user name "Quixote" is already in use by some other joker who beat me to it. No telling whether he's pretending to be me, which is (currently) against Digg.com's Terms of Service. (But of couse, they can change that whenever they want....)

I tried to register under a different Pseudonym. Digg.com rejected about half a dozen tries, complaining that usernames can only contain letters and numbers, when the existance of hundreds of sites that support special characters testify otherwise. For a web site proclaiming that they lead the way on the cutting edge, Digg.com needs to catch up with the rest of us and get a twentieth century registration engine.

They alleged that they sent a mail to my e-mail, but to date (twenty minutes later,) it hasn't shown up. Their site addresses this on the registration page. The fact that they address the issue there tells me that they get such complaints frequently. They say that it takes time to get to my client, but I suspect that in truth it takes a long time to leave their server. Their FAQ section also suggests registering again if the e-mail never gets to you.

After twenty minutes, I hit the back button to send the registration page again, only to be informed that the username and e-mail address I provided are already in use. (by me, of course.) This tells me that what they meant by "register again" was "create two (or more) new accounts instead of one." That one makes me wonder how many members on their roster are resulting from their faulty registration system. (Not to mention that it makes me wonder whether it isn't on purpose.)

Until they fix this stuff, their site isn't nearly as cool as it's been made out to be....

-Sam- Digg is a news aggregator website, users submit news and then digg members digg it up or digg it down based on if they are interested in the story. With enough diggs the news appears on the main page and 100,000's of people see it. It could only help the Amiga to be on these types of mainstream websites so I submitted a story on the release of OS 4.0 for Classic Amiga. Only 11 diggs so far though.

Congrats!

Have I known that it will see the light of day I would have never sold my a4k/cs200/ariadne/p4 setup. But now that it's gone...

What can I possibly run it on?

@DiscreetFX

Now is not the right time to get a ton of publicity for OS4. The sort of people who would be interested in it will enquire, and be told that the hardware one needs to run it has not been for sale for a decade. Should new hardware for OS4 ever be released, these people will remember and not even take a look. That means a loss for the critical early sales for the really important version of OS4.

>I'll keep checking http://www.winuae.net/ to see if it gets PPC support.

this time you can save i think
If Hyperion want support winuae they can more easy do.
simple build OS4 as 68k version.

when we remember, ainc tell long time ago a buy of amithlon is illegal, because H&P have no licence.

But now ainc dont tell anything about OS4 buy is illegal because they stop the contract, maybe there is hope that ainc does not legal own amiga and so no licences from ainc are need to port OS4.

It make no sense to have runnning PPC OS4 on winuae.
I guess there are much too few user that want to check if OS4 run stable.

Also look on Hyperion OS4 licence.

I remember that warp3d from Hyperion cant use on winuae, or amithlon, so i guess Hyperion and ainc dont want that there OS run on otrher hardware as amiga branded.

A OS job is mostly to run Apps on fastest possible hardware and give the apps a nice look and offer developers new functions.

to get new functions a idea is to use the code of OS4 emu and put it in a shared linker library all OS can use.so developers that want develop for more amiga platform can use OS4 functions too and are not limit to a common level.

I am in contact with Ilka if he maybe do that or give me source to do that, but no answer yet.

the OS4 library interface is simple to emulate on other platforms.

OS4 seem go the way Bars&Pipes do his API

for example with the struct function

the struct function can of course then change to use IExec structure

struct Functions *functions;
functions = getlibaddress();

functions->DrawEmbossed(windowaddr,id);

there is a struct that set the functions as this.

struct Functions {
......
long GfxBase;
long LayersBase;
long standardout; * Ignore. *
....

*746* void (*DrawEmbossed)(struct Window *,short );
*74a* void (*EnableEmbossed)(struct Window *,short ,short );

Yeah, right... disregarding the inline assembler, the totally different architecture, it should be nothing but flipping a switch, eh?

Or, for the matter, the absence of an MMU in some 68k models.

Although I don't exactly get what you want to say, I can assure you that AmigaOS 4.0 is more stable than any previous version of AmigaOS.

Quote:

It is generally a good idea to know what the heck you are talking about. Apparently, you don't.

For one thing, Warp3D has nothing to do with either Hyperion nor Amiga. It's Thomas and Sam and my product, although Sam bailed out of it a long while ago.

Secondly, it doesn't run on WinUAE or Amithlon because it needs direct hardware access. I don't know whether this is possible on Amithlon, and I actually never tried it on either, but on WinUAE I suppose that the Windows graphics driver has something against someone nosing around in their graphics card registers.

Finally, not being able to run on WinUAE or Amithlon is not by design but by coincidence. It just doesn't work. So your allegation that we don't want to run our os on non-Amiga branded hardware is bullocks because

a) This has nothing to do with either Hyperion nor Amiga
b) It has nothing to do with AmigaOS

Quote:

Oh you have to learn a lot about operating systems if that is your opinion.

I'm not going to go into the rest of your post, not even if it would make any sense at all which it doesn't.
