Announcement   Announcement : AmigaOS 4.0 for Classic Amiga available now
posted by Lecta on 29-Nov-2007 23:02:40 (67393 reads)
Bassano del Grappa (Italy) - 30th November 2007

ACube Systems Srl is pleased to to announce the immediate availability of the awaited AmigaOS 4.0 for Amiga 1200, 3000(T) or 4000(T) with a PowerPC CPU, developed by Hyperion Entertainment VOF. It is now possible to benefit of all the features of this new AmigaOS release, an operating system famous for its efficiency and small footprint.

AmigaOS 4.0, thanks to its power and optimization, succeeds in using at the maximum even systems running at 160Mhz, allowing the multimedia performances and the usability everyone expects from AmigaOS.

The interest expressed towards this new AmigaOS version is so high that, actually, orders are twice than expected. This shows that the Amiga community is still strong and that it enjoys and support the efforts made by Hyperion Entertainment VOF and ACube Systems Srl to develop and promote concrete and powerful products.

It's possible to order AmigaOS 4.0 for "Classic" Amigas directly from ACube Systems or from a reseller listed on page

If amiga inc had anything good to offer at all they'd have this on their web page, and start acting in a concilliatory manner. As it is, fingers crossed that hyperion can find a way to continue delivering like this.

Rich.

Congratulations to all of the OS4 team for a job well done!

I will be buying a copy in support.

Note that I have a 'loaded' A3000 with a Picasso IV, A2065 (ethernet) and built-in SCSI.

In order to utilize OS4 on this hardware I need a PPC accelerator and a SCSI driver for the on-board SCSI.

I am more than willing to fund a bounty for the on-board SCSI. However, the PPC accelerator is the sticking point.

Would Oliver Day of "Amigacoldfire" Yahoo group be interesting in a bounty for a basic PPC accelerator for the A3K/A4K cpu slot? Any other potential candidates? Something based on the Sam440 stripped of all peripherals except perhaps the SATA ports?

Again, thanks to the OS4 team, all the beta testers, translators. Most excellent.

Good idea, get a copy before Amigainc decide to pull the carpet out from under Acube..

Might not be such a bad idea. I really wish I'd bought Amithlon when I had the chance. I suppose I could buy this now and keep checking on Ebay for a PPC card. Maybe UAE will get PPC one day.

Why is this now quoted on the amigakit web site as "product currently unavailable" - that's definately not great news particularly when I've ordered and paid for the item.

Surely an expanation to those who have ordered would be in order if only to prempt any panic attacks !

Having said that Amikit said they would only take orders when 100% sure of OS4 availability so I'm very puzzled by it's current unavailability.

The CSPPC includes a UWSCSI controller which is supported by OS4, you could
move your SCSI drives from the motherboard SCSI port to the CSPPC SCSI port.
IIRC some A3000 need the "INT2 fix" hardware modification to be able to use
accelerators with SCSI controllers.

Congratulations to Hyperion and ACube for actually getting this out the door. The more kept promises the better, these days.

I don't have a PPC card unfortunately, but it's all a step in the right direction!

Nope sorry.
I am sketching a 060 card but I have no plans to even try and design a PPC card.

If more information on the way the Cyberstorm or Blizzards PPC was intergrated into a standard 68K upgrade was available I would join an effort with anyone else interested and try to design such a thing but I already have a Cyberstorm (Just been fixed and is on its way back to me now) and it seems less interesting than some of the other things Im working on at the mo.

Only one thing to say...

I think ACube did an excellent job with their web site etc. It seems Hyperion have chosen a good partner for a change.
