hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : Happy New Year from Hyperion Entertainment!

Antwerp, Belgium. - 31 December, 2007

Hyperion Entertainment extends its best wishes for 2008 to all of its customers and supporters world-wide.

In 2007, Hyperion and the AmigaOS 4.x development team continued its tireless work on Hyperion’s renowned PowerPC based, multi-media centric operating system, AmigaOS 4, with the release of two significant (free for download) updates and the release of AmigaOS 4.0 for the original Amiga 1200/3000/4000 line of computers equipped with PowerPC accelerator cards. AmigaOS 4.0 is now (and has been since quite some time) by far the largest update of AmigaOS in Amiga history dating back to 1987.

Thanks to our strategic partnership with Acube Systems s.r.l which acts as Hyperion’s global producer and distributor, the production value of the Amiga 1200/3000/4000 version of AmigaOS 4.0, with heavy cardboard box, dedicated emergency floppy and glossy Quick Start manual, brought professional production values back to the Amiga platform which have not been seen since the demise of Commodore.

Building on that work, Hyperion is committed to continue development of AmigaOS 4.x in the year 2008 by drastically expanding both the feature-set of AmigaOS 4.x and the range of supported PowerPC based target hardware.

A number of exciting new features are currently already undergoing beta-testing with more functionality under development and scheduled for release in 2008.

Amiga 1200/3000/4000 users of AmigaOS 4.0 can look forward to a free update early 2008 bringing increased compatibility for legacy third-party hardware add-ons and improved driver support.

Users of AmigaOne hardware will also be in for a major treat in early H1/2008 and they certainly will not be the only ones.

Hyperion Entertainment once more wishes to thank all of its supporters and customers for their loyal and patient support without whom there would be no future for AmigaOS.

Please rest assured that in 2008, just as in 2007, Hyperion will continue to deliver.

Happy New Year!

You are one of the last remaining Amiga companies that actually does deliver.

I wish you well in the New Year Hyperion. I hope I will be able to buy a new PPC Amiga soon so that I can purchase OS4 and the Amino nonsense can be put behind us.

Oh really? What about OS3.5/3.9? Were these not professional productions?

Well I suppose OS 3.5 had a proper box and manual but OS3.9 was less 'professional production values' and more cheap CD run in a cheap Jewel case - which is fair enough as the Amiga market was practically dead even back then.

@-SAM-

The 2 different versions of the OS3.9 CD were a bit confusing, later fixed through the boing bags.
From an older post of mine:
Quote:
I really think the "safe" upgrade is from OS3.5 to boingbag 1&2, NOT from OS3.5 to OS3.9. We have discussed several times the two different CDs for OS3.9.
One of the chief differences was in printer drivers, which were different between the two CDs.
When I updated, I actually installed the boingbags to empty partitions, in order to check the files and filenote (comment) each of them as to source.
It seems that the corrections were included in the boingbags, perhaps to cover for the problem with the erroneous initial OS3.9 CD.
Note:we compared these files in irc at great length when we were discussing OS4 and printer drivers.

Respect to Hyperion and all that work with them for os4. OS4 has been my main system (use linux only for browsing) and amigaone the only HW for a lot of years now. I have seen os4 growing from a baby to today. And the future will give us even more. Thanks for making os4 to classic ppc users.
I will look out for the next update whenever it comes.

Thanks and happy new year !!! Hyperion rulez. Os4 Rulez :) The amigacommunity Rulez. :) Amigaworld rulez :)

And the last to not forget all coders like jahc, afxgroup, Thilo, error, DaveAE, Hazelwood, zerohero, bean, xeron, Brewka and all other coders and non coders not written here. Thanks for filling up my HD with usefull stuff worth staying with amiga.
Without you i would sit infront windows and be bored now hehe

It's great to see the spirit from Hyperion is still very much alive and whole. This is a good sign of hope and i hope that 2008 will bring the Amiga where it should be long ago - in the frontline of computing technology for the 21th century...

Happy new year to all of you

How do you create a rescue/boot floppy half-way through an installation routine you can't run because you don't have a boot floppy?

Seems you never used OS3.9 and a missing boot disk in the box is not an argument for not beeing a professional product.

And a package that was delivered as a DIY Kit is in any way better and makes OS3.5/3.9 less professional? I don't get the point why OS4 should bring back the professional production values to the Amiga platform which have not been seen since the demise of Commodore. That's totally #### what Hyperion is talking here.

@DJBase

I just got my floppy drive to work, and I think unless you've tried the product, you shouldn't be so negative. It would seem you are focusing on a single word, and that you take the presence of that word to mean everything else isn't professional. I remember trying to install 3.9 on a clean A4000 with no OS. That was no walk in the park, you had to install 3.1, then via diskettes make sure you could use the CDROM, and finally after that you could start the installation.

If you bought a machine without an OS installed, and then bought OS 3.5 or 3.9, you couldn't install your machine without help.. just consider that for a moment. You buy new hardware.. and a, at the time, new OS.. and there's no way you can actually install it - unless you have other diskettes with an other OS to begin with.

The OS 4 installation itself is very polished, it was a pleasure to install. It easily rivals the ease of installation of that from 3.1. And I think that is what they mean, a more polished, more consumer friendly product. In another word, a more professional product. This is not to say that 3.5/3.9 are bad - it just means this is better.

When you take the above into consideration, I would say that OS4, which can be installed on a clean machine.. which explains every step of the way during installation, what each little tick-box means.. how very easy it was to install.. I'd say that "Yes, OS 4 Classic is a more professional product".

OS4 might be easier to install but thats what I would expect from a new OS right? I did not say OS4 is crap. But reading this posting from Hyperion stating that they brought professional production values back to the Amiga platform which have not been seen since the demise of Commodore is full ack. That's all.

No, that's not all. If that had been all, you would have made a simple inquiry regarding it instead of saying some of the things you said.

It's not only easier to install, it enables a new customer to actually install Amiga OS, something which has been impossible without help since the days of Commodore. After having installed it, I tend to think that this is the most professional Amiga OS released in a very, very long time. And considering how much has been rewritten, revised and changed, and how finally the rules of what is OK and what is not OK has become strict - enabling people to debug and make better software in the future, I consider it also to be the most grand Amiga OS release so far, apart from the first release, ofcourse.

While others are nitpicking about who was/is more professional, this statement is certainly intriguing...

This bit was interesting too:

Building on that work, Hyperion is committed to continue development of AmigaOS 4.x in the year 2008 by drastically expanding both the feature-set of AmigaOS 4.x and the range of supported PowerPC based target hardware.

Expanding the range of OS4 hardware in 2008!
