   posted by Raffaele on 18-Feb-2008 17:13:15 (5473 reads)
Tirelessly working, our amigan programmer Joerg Strohmayer developed 3 releases (1.10, 1.11, 1.12) in less than three days.

Latest version of Origyn Web Browser is now 1.12!

Read more for details....

Quote:

Recent changes:

1.12 (18.2.2008)
Fixed the bug which caused crashes with missing fonts in version 1.10 and 1.11.
1.11 (17.2.2008)
Fixed a bug in the OS4 font code and changed some parameters to improve the display.
Changed the network code to only wait, delaying the (re)rendering, if data is transferred.

With any luck, these updates will turn the project into nightly build release.
With a SCM (Software Config Management) system + Continuous Build Environment.

Well,

I hope people remember to donate to this project. Nothing motivates people more than a nice gesture.

(Yes, I have donated and will again)

OWB is great, thanks Jörg, but I've juste one question : How does one browse ??

Let me be more clear :D
Buttons links are working fine, but text links, as one here on AW.net are not working. I can click for hours, non change of page (not very usefull for a browser).

Any clue ? Every thing was working fine before 1.09.

Thanks.

Tonton Pascal: as said on Amiga Impact, the proble comes from yout installtion, not from OWB since it is working flawlessly on my AmigaOne.

A small problem of parsing. OWB cannot find local files because it attaches a / to the wrong part: If I paste this in or send via the arexx port -
file://localhost/Work:Amsmags/Amsmag2008/Feb_2008/Amsmag.html
I get a requester which says:
"Please insert volume /Work: in any Drive"

NoelFuller:

It should be a unix-style path, like this:
    file:///Work/Amsmags/Amsmag2008/Feb_2008/Amsmag.html

That definitely works, but it would be better if OWB parsed the
"Amiga" way too. I can probably get round it by creating some code
elsewhere just for using the OWB Arexx port. I like to doubleclick
an html file in diropus and have it load on whatever browser is
given priority or happens to be open at the time.

@Tonton_Pascal

Since OWB can't open more than one window, and AmigaWorld links are set to open in a new window, maybe this is the problem. It worked before, but now it has been "fixed" to specifically refuse any links that want to open in a new window...?

@JCC

The following arexx script worked - it is part of a longer script that opens any preferred Browser or just posts the URL along to whatever open browser comes first in the script (like openurl I suppose):

/* $VER: 2.0 - send url to web browser */
parse arg url

IF SHOW('P','OWB') THEN DO
lh= pos('localhost/',url)
IF lh>0 THEN DO /* change local url to unix style */
u=substr(url,lh+10)
col=pos(':',u)
IF col>0
THEN url='file:///'||substr(u,1,col-1)||'/'||substr(u,col+1) /* substitute slash for colon */
ELSE url='file:///'u)
END
ELSE NOP
ADDRESS 'OWB'
'OPENURL' url
/*SCREENTOFRONT*/ /* needed arexx command for OWB port*/
END

Next problem I find is I cannot jump cleanly to another part of the same page using an internal link (the bit beginning with # that jumps to NAME

A portion of the desired part of the page appears overtop of the page which does not jump until I roll the mouse wheel. It then overshoots, the further down the page the more it overshoots. There is no action jumping to an internal link from another page, nor can I jump back up a page.

The page I'm using is basic html with no CSS stuff or java in sight.

After search, I finally found what OWB needs to work nicely : fonts, fonts and again fonts ! :

http://strohmayer.org/sfs/files/corefonts.lha
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=34153&package_id=56408&release_id=105355 (with the readme of the previous package) ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/extras/fonts/windows/

Once every thing is copied, a big nice FixFonts.

Thanks to everyone who is working on this program.

Great improvement over the very early version of OWB I tried before.

All the web pages I usually visit came up fine and looked great (using OWB 1.12).

However, I'm having trouble posting on amiga.org and amigaworld.net.

When I use the scrollwheel of my mouse to scroll down to the text entry area, the smilies down below jump up overtop of the text entry area.

After some trial and error, I finally got a post submitted on amiga.org.

But here on amigaworld.net, things work a bit different. I finally got the text entered, but I could not submit the post because there was no down arrow beside the word preview below (so I couldn't change from preview to post comment). I could preview my comment ok but not post.

Maybe that's a good thing

@redfox:
Try clicking into the gadget and press the right or left cursor key. This is how I posted this using OWB
