@NutsAboutAmiga

I'm talking about the SCSI connector on my BlizzardPPC and AFAIK, it's as Rogue says, not supported yet.

Think, then post. If you would, then maybe you'd realize that I'm not the only one who payed an extra couple of hundred dollars for that SCSI connector and rid myself of everything IDE. Considering the total amount of PPC equipped Amiga owners, we might very well be talking a significant impact on potential AmigaOS4 sales.

So, whatever their reasons are, I'm sure it's not because they wouldn't care. Such arrogance would be a luxury they can't afford. I'm sure there is a perfectly good explanation but it's nevertheless an unfortunate loose-loose situation for me as a customer and them as developers that depends on the sales of their software product.

anyway thank you for this update Hyperion

Again, I'd rather thank the developers.

There is no conspiracy theories here, the reason there is no Blizzard SCSI device has already been explained here, and at times in the past: None of the development team has taken up the challenge of creating the driver. Apparently the 68K driver is in assembler, so an OS4 version involves a rewrite from scratch to be usefull.

Although, I can't help but thinking this would have been a great opportunity to fill the abscense of facts with what according to you is the real reason. Atleast in my view a statement from someone with the credibility such as yours would go along way to prevent alot of the rumours.

From my experience, people don't let trivial things like facts get into the way of speculations. That is why I do not bother.

In any case, the absence of facts is called speculation, and as such, are not truth until proven with facts. However, even that does not seem discourage the usual suspects.

Back to the subject, I agree that the lack of Blizzard SCSI support is bad, but the effort to write a driver for that is just not justified.

Is there enough information available for an external developer to write the required driver. Not me though as I am only able to do a few lines of C from a book at the moment.

It is, first and foremost, a normal DMA-capable ide-lookalike device. If anybody wants to tackle this, they're welcome to it, I would try to help out with whatever information required.

The availability of hardware isn't the problem, it is simply the lack of priority.

That would be scsi.device for the onboard A4000T hardware. There is no source code for a Blizzard SCSI device, and the original one doesn't work under emulation (AFAIR it does some MMU tricks).

That is encouraging. Not that I would bet money on it or anything but given Amiga programmer's tendancy to write just about anything to get out more of their hardware, chances are good that someone eventually will develop that driver. Anything you do to encourage such effort is very much appreciated. Thank you, Rogue.

Nice Update!

Just wondering if these are known but didn't make it in this release:

1) 2 of the fs_#? C: commands are corrupted (machine crashes when version C: command is used).
2) "Media Toolbox" does not scan for ID15 and so if a new hard drive is installed that uses that as default
(e.g. I had a Fujitsu that used 15 as default), that HDD won't be detected.
3) In Amiga video modes, the requesters with pics of e.g. "?" aren't rendering correctly. (1/2 to 1/3 is missing from the question mark picture)...to replicate just type DF0: in shell without floppy and you can see it (use NTSC hires interlaced).
4) Sound prefs -> when testing a "startup sound" by clicking the speaker over
and over...more and more memory is used..and is never given back to the OS (seems like this rountine is using AHI)
5) Sound Prefs -> picking "Beep" for system sound, it sounds garbled (this routine is not using AHI)

"The Classic PPC OS4 Installation Thread" has more details...

This has nothing to do with absence of facts, more with presence of bullsh*t.

@samface and others

And with EntilZha's answer, the "discusion" thank hyperion or developers and who is or isn't a rumor mongerer stops.

Back on topic; the OS4 update.

Just had a quick look at the difference the update makes.

Have had no choice but to use the Elbox 68k drivers up until now.

As well as fixing some grapical bugs, there is a big difference in speed opening folders and moving them round.

Had to turn off some of the fancier options when using the Elbox drivers as they were just too slow for this type if thing.

Now I've seen what I am missing, I just hope Elbox can get some OS4 drivers sorted soon.

Thanks to all involved in the latest update.

@samface

If some one want a PPC driver for the BlizzardPPC scsi module to use as a reference to help the create one for OS4 they could look at the existing working one in the Linux/APUS project.

I am not a programmer and I don't know how much work would be involved in porting a Linux driver to work under OS4 but I would expect having a working example of a driver for the hardware for a different platform would be very helpful to some one with the right skill set.

Support is mentioned in this document http://archive.debian.org/debian-archive/dists/woody/main/disks-powerpc/current/apus/install.txt

and I think I used to use the driver my self to access my Amiga partisons under Linux/APUS.

More information is also available here http://linux-apus.sourceforge.net/
