Phew! Thank goodness this has been sorted out. This was rapidly going from a "Goodnews" thread into another low ebb for the Amiga.

I've definately got to have one of these for my A2000.

Am I right when I read that the drivers are held on ROM, so if my OS hard drive with OS3.9 on it should fail then I could just attach a fresh hard drive and copy over a bootable, back-up of my OS3.9 installation from a USB memory stick instead of buggering around with reinstalling from floppies and CD?

ARG.. I forgot about the RoHS etc certification.. @.@ There was an article in some mag, computer, electronics etc some months back that went into reasonable detail on the methods needed, but not sure how much depth in costing.

Those guys really know how to hammer the bloke in the shed who keeps coming up with the next big thing, that then takes a company, often large, to make viable. 8(

The reason I was trying to compare to the Minimig, and in no way meant as flame, jibe, or other denoument, is that silicon is folowing an Exponential acceleration. In 18 months time, you will get a chip that cheaper than todays, but with the capacity of Every previous generation put together. Roughly.. Moores Law.

So I was hoping, that with FPGAs, and Intel claiming an intrest in them on Mobos, and Commercial C compilers now coming with FPGA code generation integrated from the shelf, would it make more economical sense, for the long term, to use socketed, replacable FPGAs etc, so that over the years, the chip can be replaced with pin compatible, more capable chips, without ahving to recode a whole new board? Like the Spartan 300 can be replaced with a 400, 500 I believe?

At what point, 5,10,15 etc years, would Microchips 32 bit CPUs be expected to equal a fully emulated Classic system in speed, response and such.. as one example of progressive advancements in technology?

It says much about just how advanced the Classic was, that even now, you dont get £10 mobile phones with the capabilities, overall, of the A500, even though the display, memory and CPU are all more advanced. (?)

I wonder if this would allow my A3000 motherboard scsi to work with the 68K scsi.device? If so, please please please try to work with the OS4 guys to get this implemented. I'd probably be buying a DENEB then too even thought I thought I'd never buy another hardware item for my 3000...

This looks like an excellent piece of kit - I just ordered one from Amigakit for my A3000...hmmm what about my A2500 now?

Field replaceability is already an issue with FPGAs and isn't going to get better. Already, "big" FPGAs are BGA mounted and not field replaceable.

Thanks for taking a mature stance on this. Only through attitudes like this will the Amiga survive at all in any form.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before PPC-native OS4 support for the Deneb including DMA is with us, but until then I'll just have to stick to PIO.

Can't wait to get it though.. do I need it? Of course not, I have a Highway and an A1. But that's not the point.... fast ethernet and sound and stuff on my A4000 here we come. :)

How do we decode the Buster top marking to figure out if it is a rev9 or rev11?

Also, for the FlashRom, is there any way to write the OS4 kickstart to Flash for faster laoding (or even have 3.9 loaded)? i.e. does this have the same or better functionality as KickFlash?

Buster issue: simply check the Buster inside your Amiga. It will have something like "390537-XX" on it. "XX" marks the revision number, being 07, 09, or 11. If you find something else, tell me

FlashROM + OS4: we have no direct bootloader for OS4, but technically it is possible, and the DENEB offers more FlashROM capacity than any other FlashROM solution on the market (Kickflash: 1MB, eFlash4000: 2MB, ALGOR: 512kB, ALGOR PRO: 1MB, DENEB: 4MB user, 2MB firmware => 6MB total).
For MOS PUP there is already a bootloader, but for OS4 we still are looking for a volunteer (best would be one of the OS4 developpers knowing its system well).

To celebrate I ordered a Deneb for my 4000!

When OS4 will support my G-Rex I will order that too.

Now that we have USB2.0 on Amiga it may be time to write a driver for an USB-VGA adapter to get rid of old video cards. Or even a very cheap and simple LAN might be possible using these ultra-thin-clients to share computing resources.

Anybody would take up the challenge?
