Software News   Software News : Epistula Instant Messenger Update
   posted by Slash on 17-May-2008 15:56:42 (6460 reads)
Here's a new release of Epistula, epistula.library and the MSN plugin, all of which have had many pieces of code rewritten in my never ending quest to make Epistula as stable on other people's Amiga's as it is on mine.

Click read more

If installing as an update, you will need to backup your epistula.xml and msn.xml files before installing as they will be overwritten.

Please download the update from my website by right-clicking and selecting to download the file from the following link: Epistula 52.19. You must download via this method as the filesystem on the server isn't setup correctly for .lha files.

Feedback required, as per normal.

Thanks for this new version, I'll try it tonight.

Just a minor note: the link to the archive doesn't work on Firefox nor IE on the PC I'm using now, they treat it as text instead of downloading it. It might be a problem of the MIME settings in both the browsers, though usually I don't have problems downloading lha archives from e.g. OS4Depot.

I havent got any crashes with grimreaper but Epistula does freeze or eats the whole cpu ? if i havent used the right password for msn.

Authentication request comes up and then epistula freezes.

If i use the right password then it seems to work fine. Havent tested much.
Can anyone confirm this. Try to use wrong password for your login.

thanks

EDIT: Forgot to mentation i use these settings in the config

-x- Check plugin for new data every 2 seconds
-x- Use MasonIcons AISS toolbar images
-x- Enable Emoticons in Instant Messages

@Varthall

Aye, it's a known problem with the MIME settings on the hosting server. I've asked them to look at it but they just ignore my requests. I did mention it in the news summary though:

@Kicko
I've tried all of your settings and set my password to an incorrect value but I get the normal 'plugin disconnected state' and the error message window appearing with the MSN error stating that it couldn't authenticate.

Strange.

Tested again and didnt have that problem anymore.
Must have been before i made a clean install interfering somewhere.
Now all is clean from old settings etc. Probably that or i was unlucky.
I dont rememeber how all was setup before.

For now lets forget my freeze and say it works.

EDIT: I dont think that Varthall was the only one drunken :)
