Indeed. But I don't think you need to hire anyone: there are already some talented people that would be happy to do that...

Why cannot some people read the Amidock fonts in those screen shots? Why even with my poor eye sight I can plainly read them.

It's the dark bar over the text that's out of place. The amidock background is a gradient that doesn't fit right. That dark bar should be at the top, but its rolled over to the bottom. This can happen if an app adds its icon to the dock that is bigger then the others. Gradient backdrops look nice, but different size icons can mess it up.

Personally, I think if they got the balls to release 4.1, then there is no reason to limit the hardware to the A1's...

Either way, I applaud the progression. Now if we could see an AROS break-thru release as well then all the Amiga-like bases would be covered...

Really? I'm sure that many ex-Amiga users wouldn't care too much about the default theme either. Moreover, I'd expect that most people to see this announcement (here, on OS news, or somewhere else) will also see the press-release when OS 4.1 is available.

Let's be honest here, most ex-Amiga users don't care too much about any new Amiga or AmigaOS unless it runs all the old games out of the box. And the rest are ex-Amiga users for a reason and they're not going to be jump back, at least not until there are some modern software for this platform, which unfortunately isn't going to happen any time soon.

As for the comments about only having one chance to make a first impression with non-Amiga users. Lets be frank, how many non-Amiga users even know this OS exists, let alone care if they found out it did at this point. There is nothing to run it on. Even a very big computer geek will laugh "whats the point" when he finds out there is no way for him to run the OS.

I fully agree with you here. So, as I've said, in that case it doesn't matter what the ads and screenshots look like, as the people buying the product will buy it anyway :)

oh ! You were speaking about that ? For me I thought this dark bar came from the background image that was a little be short and as such its top was repeating... I noticed it but then forgot about it right after : a background image is easily modifiable...

PS: nobody noticed that the default OS4.1 theme would also include an "hfrieden" partition and a "files" one ? Those malicious OS4Team is trying to control us and adopt their way of mind, that's intolerable !!!!

I think the theme looks good, but I have two things I would adjust after installing it:

1. The rounded upper window corners reminds way too much about XP. It is good that it shows the possibility by default though.

2. I like the window gadgets to have clear frames. I don't like them "hovering free" in the window title bar, and I also agree with some ppl that the close gadget should be slightly bigger and slightly closer to the left edge. And as I said, I'd like them framed so I know exactly where I can click and where i cannot.

About the AmiDock readability: Don't you see that it is just the *tiled* background image that doesn't fit the screen resolution perfectly (everyone have different monitors) and restarts just in the middle of the AmiDock icon texts, that's all!

Yes, but the complain was about the font. I got no problem what so ever reading because of the font. I use the same font every day in AOS 4.0.

As a faithful OS4 user and an Amiga "fanatic" since the 80's I've to chime in: Most excellent work Hyperion!
As for the screenshots; I've seen worse, but as in everything there's always room for improvements. I'd like some of you self proclaimed UI artists to provide mock-ups to show how it should be done, and who knows, your work could be incorporated in the most significant OS update in years.

I won't quote your whole post #200

Because your post was quite long and I don't want to do spamming.

Or:

I think you're a little bit exaggerating

Because comparing a minor "problem" in a GUI to comparing Stradivarius and a cheap student violin. Those small possible "problems" in a GUI are not that significant.

Me too thinks that the window borders are'nt looking as good as the 4.0 borders. I actually don't like them very much at all. I don't blame Mason alone since he's only trying to make the borders look good from what's possible to do without chaning code (I'm guessing). But the look just isn't ok, I agree... giving it a few days to look at was required for me to give an honest response. I love the 4.0 look and allthough the Zami theme are nice I get back to the original 4.0 look all the time so... I hope to get that feeling with 4.1.

Specs look good :)

The overall look isn't one that I would go for but it does strike me as shots from a developers machine to demonstrate the new features rather then show off the default theme. Just my 2 penith worth, I wonder how it would look to take the default 4.0 theme and just round over the top two edges?

Still, with all the advancement the OS is getting, there is one major problem, availability of hardware. Now with places like the UK and US economies slowing down, the hardware will also need to be cheap as people will have less and less spare cash laying around. £300 for a mobo isn't going to cut it in an age where you can buy a whole machine (laptop as well) for that amount (be good or bad!).

Well, now Hyperion, the next step bring the new OS 4.1 up to the Sam440, and after for the Efika-Pegasos? because this step will be a big and very very nice point of begin for the new life for Amiga community, several hardware plataforms but with a same operative system with the alternative of to use MorphOS in Pegasos-Efika, but best option for developers. The Amiga user under a same flag and OS again, as the ancient times with Commodore.

Interesting, 12 pages of comments and most of you guys are arguing over a few pixels.

Unfortunately for me, I missed the chance to enjoy 4.0 and I'm not going to pay silly prices on eBay just to do so. I'll have to keep waiting until new hardware is available again.

So I'm looking at this list of improvements and trying to imagine how fantastic it must be to run the latest AmigaOS. I have to say, I'm quite disappointed, most of these features as described are nebulous and unlikely to have any impact on the average user.

Improved workbench functionality caught my eye, but the only thing that Rogue could say was that there are new listers for text mode.

How does Intelligent memory paging affect system performance ? Speed improvements ? Rough benchmarks ? Wet finger in the air figures ?

Improved Radeon drivers, that's nice but I wouldn't say that contributed to "a wealth of substantial new functionality". Especially since it's the recommended graphics card.

AmiDock with transparency - that's a feature everyone has been crying out for ?

A cardboard box, are you kidding me ?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for updates to AmigaOS and hats off to the developers for their hard work, but this press release is really just a knee jerk reaction to the MorphOS release, surely ?

At the end of the day I am an Amigan through and through, if MorphOS and AmigaOS are competitive and that spurs on innovation then great, I'm all for that, but what we have here are a number of minor modifications, work in progress and under the hood type things that should be considered a maintenance release until some details that have real substance are available.

Oh, I see what you mean. I had not noticed that before. Yes, it is annoying, It would be easier to read if the bar was absent.

Now, see what you have done? I didn't care until you brought my attention to it! Now, I don't like it.

AmigaOS 4.1 will be the first AmigaOS-like OS to introduce virtual memory. It is required for memory hungry applications (3D games etc).
