OK, now you really scared me. I guess it is hard to get on board some gui designer/ gui usability expert who would take care about all the gui aspects, which is not the right role for coder in most cases.

The GUI redesign was done by Mason.

Plainly, I don't know what you are going on about. The changes from the previous look are not that severe, so I would like to know what exactly is so bad about this one. Also, are you a GUI designer/usability expert? If not, why do you think you can judge this better than Mason?

Quote:
Gui customizing is nice feature people around Amiga like a lot but the other big group of people (incl majority of new users of the system [are there any?]) will not change the look and keep the default.

Judging from the number of screenshots I have seen, the opposite is true. In fact, I have heard recently that only developers don't customize their GUI look while everybody else does.

Quote:
Thats why the default look should represent the system and show the best.

I have heard that there are actually people that pay money to have some leather-clad female with a whip beat the living out of them. Why I mention this? Because it shows that tastes are different.

Quote:
Argument users can customize it anyway is not the right one.

Oh, it absolutely is. Because there is no way that you can please everyone. I know a lot of people that are totally happy with Windows Vista's default look, while others hate it cordially. Being able to customize the look of your GUI is a feature that allows you, the user, to chose a different look when the default look does not please you.

So, it does not please you. Fine. There are others that like it. Where the point?

Will some of these updates be available for the Classic version too ?

As I wrote elsewhere, I *think* that 4.1 is planned for the Classic too, but Management will have the final say about it.

is there now a full mesa port and the needed hardware drivers included? and the graphics system based on it like planned?

i read "Reworked Warp3D Radeon drivers with new functionality" - that does not sound like that?! i am wrong here?

really looking forward to it!!
i hope it will not be so much expensive and a update possibility for the prerelease owners is given?

(hardly can wait to install and use it!)

thanks and
byebye...

Like on MacOS X, the most frequently copied visual style ever?

I agree with this.

Which is why a GUI designer designed the GUI look.

If we had that, it would have been in the announcement

@Tomppeli

I welcome the rounded borders, and cool possibilities to have windows shaped and customized as developers and users like it makes this more interesting I think.

I think the comments is basicly about symmetry, we this where small close, and back to front icons, and this large title border, if the icons where proportions as large as boarders it probably look at lot nicer, or if the border was smaller to fit the icons.

and then you have the lower border thats not as large as top one, this also effects the symmetry in the picture, it probably be better if was no lower border or lower button did have the same size as top border (drag-bar).

Personly I think the MorphOS2.0 look is just as bad, or worst but it matter of taste.

Hardware requirement is AmigaOne and I think all A1 owners are prerelease owners. So there can be only one kind of release.

Maybe it's time to get only used to it But move those title bar gadgets just a tiny little bit (maybe 2-8 pixels) more closer to the edges and then it's perfect. (I think I'm a too demanding person

@Rogue

MacOSX.

If you noticed the rounded buttons inside the window whit rounded corners, it makes icons look more centered.

Lower corners should also be rounded to have perfect symmetry.

OS4.0

The icons can also be rounded in one corner, to make more integrated whit outer window edege.

The same problem occurs on a "fixed" XE. I don't know what that fix really entails, I should maybe have a look at that. I'll have a look at that link you posted once I have some time.

Are you talking about having two graphics cards plugged in or using the 66mhz PCI port?

The fix is just some IRQ signals that have been swapped, in a way that should keep the 3com chip from conflicting whit via686b when DMA is used.

@Rogue:

Pls, don´t take this personal, I appreciate the work you did and still do to AmigaOS4+. The guy with the "rounded corners" problem made a good point, but you don´t see it. It would be a very nice eye candy, if the user could make all window corners rounded and by the way the MacOS-copy-style would be avoided, too. I think you´re actually looking too much into other systems and not in really new features you could build into AmigaOS that are unique to it (or nearly unique, that is). Maybe, you could take this as a suggestion for another update later on. If you wish, I can give you even some more suggestions

One personal question: Could developers look forward to an updated SDK for OS4.1 with release date or short after? Would be great, I´ve been waiting for the SDK update quite a long time now and I´m very interested in developing a nice game for OS4 (maybe OS4 only, that depends on the future of 4.1 and if hardware for my graphics artist and beta tester is available to actually use it, he´s still using my classic machine). Actually, some important features are not usable with the latest public SDK, sadly.

Regards

I like the small cd case that was used on os4.0 much more then a big box. The design you use is really good. Its only the big box ;( But i can live without that. Its the OS i will use everyday and now watch the box. Cant wait for next release :)

I forgot to ask if the Open Source Java-implement is part of AmigaOS 4.1?

When i read this announcent, my heart filled with joy and a big smile from ear to ear. While i don't have an A1 or a Classic + PPC, i feel in my heart that i should say: Thank You Hyperion, for the job you have done so far and hope that you will keep doing it.

Now, one day i have to get an A1... or new hardware ->

You're not being serious are you? One thing is making screenshots so that features are exposed, another is praising those as if they are the ultimate design...

I have a degree on the subject btw, am I entitled to comment further on the ui?

There's one thing in UI design called coherence... os x do have a guide and quite an heavy one, the day AmigaOS 4 has something comparable will be a very good day... I think AmigaOS had some guides in the past though....

The round corners on OSX looks way better then on OS4, probably due to the use of alpha blending, is that also possible on OS4's windows edges?
