@Foody

A word of advice Foody, take this announcement for what it is ... an invitation to come and see some products. Announcements of this type are intentionally vague to inspire curiousity.

The announcement says ...
quote:
We'll bring with us the Sam 440ep board and its Sam 440 Flex sister. The Minimig will come with us too in its Crystal case, and we'll show AmigaOS 4.1 to all ex and current Amigans.
/quote

The most likey senario is ...
- there will be some Sam 440ep boards and Sam 440 Flex boards on display, maybe for sale
- possibly a SAM 440 running Linux so potential buyers can see it in action
- there will be a Minimig on display in its Crystal case
- probably an AmigaOne or MicroA1 running AmigaOS 4.1 so potential buyers can see it in action
- probably some AmigaOS 4.1 CDs for sale for AmigaOne (and MicroA1) owners

End of story.

Agreed, don't expect anything until after the meeting with Amiga Inc.

That cleared things up for me, thanks. As soon as I get some more cash I am going to put it into my PC (AMD). Going to upgrade the RAM to 3 GB so this way my Windows XP can boost fast and smooth and second of that, get some more HD to store more Data. A 250 GB doesn't cut it in this HIGHLY media intensive world and * giggle * get me some more PS 2 games.

Question for ACUBE: Will OS4.1 be demoed on the Sam440 at the Colmar Multimedia EXPO?

Hi all,

The answer is simple :

We will only present on our stand in Colmar what it will be technically and legally possible the next 24-25-26 October.

Kind regards,
Sébastien 'Jedi' Jeudy.

That is the responsible thing to do. The lawyers can't be happy that their cash cow is about to expire, so they will be looking very closely at everything and everyone for any excuse to keep going.

Colmar is a lovely town, I know it from the Christmas Markets held there.

It's over 1000 kms from me, so I probably won't be able to attend, sadly. It sounds like it will be a great event.

probably an AmigaOne or MicroA1 running AmigaOS 4.1 so potential buyers can see it in action

The thing is: how could these ex Amigans could be buyers as there's no hardware to make it run ?

This is so pathetic... Working on and promoting software people can't get... I mean: puting aside the fact that it looks so outdated, runs no Unix nor Win software, isn't memory protected, etc.. people couldn't even buy it if they would like to...

And it's not like if this situation was lasting since 5 years at least!

Well said. We seem to be back into "hinting & beating around the bush" -mode again.

You did notice the new TGV line going from Paris to Colmar in less than three hours, right? I guess you have TGV's from your neck of the woods as well?

Would be fun meeting as many Amigans as possible there. I'll most likely attend Sunday (maybe also Saturday).

Best regards,

Niels

In my own, limited, opinion... I can't see the hardware issue lasting 'FOREVER'. People may moan about it, and rightly so... but the OS is there. And from all reports, it's a damn fine one at that.

Eventually *something* must surely happen to allow it to be run on something other than the AmigaOne and MicroA1.

@Yo

The hardware issue won't last for ever, I think this November's mediation conference will be the "make or break" event for OS4. If Amiga Inc and Hyperion agree on terms that allow for OS4.x to be sold on new hardware, then I'm sure that ACube and maybe others will jump to the occasion (I would definitely buy an 8641 amiga, even it it was just a rebranded 8641 reference board). If the mediation is unsuccessful, then we're looking at a few more years of uncertainty, which will definitely drive away the handful of us who are left. I hope those at the conference will remember to leave their egos at home...
