Software News   Software News : WarpView 1.0 Released
posted by COBRA on 3-Jan-2009 20:51:11 (5544 reads)
After more than 6 months of hard work, WarpView 1.0 is finally available!

Changes in this version (v1.0): (Read more...)

- Complete rework and restructure of the program to allow key new features

- Implemented Software Draw Mode as an alternative to Warp3D mode for those
with low video memory. Software Mode is now default, because it allows for
faster image loading with high resolution images (no need to transfer whole
image to video memory via PCI/AGP bus).

- Draw Mode (Software/Warp3D) can be toggled either via ToolType/Command line
options, or in the Settings menu.

- Now using internal libjpeg for faster loading of JPEG images

- Added support for saving images in JPEG and PNG formats

- Added Scale/Resize option with super-fast Nearest/Bilinear/Bicubic resample
and an extremely good quality, highly optimized Lanczos algorithm.

- Added Crop option with both graphical (mouse-driven) and numeric input
possibilities, aspect ratio presets, aspect lock and auto-scroll capability

- Added Undo/Redo functionality

- Added automatic zoom to fit to screen when rotating

- Added an Exif 2.2 compliant Exif parser to read Exif data, with support for
reading Canon-specific Marker Notes

- Some Exif data is displayed on the InfoLine when available

- Added Image Information window to show additional Exif Data

- Alphabetical sorting improved to ignore upper/lower case

- Many small changes, bugfixes, improvements and optimisations

- A nice PDF Manual

- WarpView is now released as ShareWare

Yes, it was the .info files. I tried a picture directory with no .info files and didn't get the thumbnail images. However, the small images certainly Wipe (fade out, fade in) much more smoothly that screensize pictures. It's a nice program but ironically, slide show wipes on my classic Amiga were smoother. The old Amiga chipram double-buffering with WaitTOF() synchronization signals worked rather well for transitions. Maybe the larger image size and number of colors is causing the flicker I'm seeing on my µA1. As soon as I get a chance I'll try some smaller, less colorful pictures.

@Xenic

The smoothness of a wipe depends on a lot of things. If you're using Software mode, then it is the CPU, which renders the wipes. In this case the images are scaled to the screen's size in real time, and at the same time they are alpha-blended. If you're using a screen size of 1024x768 with images which are at least that size, you're not going to get a very smooth crossfade/zoom effect in real time, and if you could do that smoothly on a classic Amiga, please tell me what program you used, which could do cross-fades and zooms of truecolor images in real time on AGA hardware

If you use Warp3D mode, then you have a much better chance of getting a smooth transition, but for it to be smooth, both images, which are faded, must fit into video memory at the same time. If they don't, then Warp3D has to keep swapping data in and out of videomemory, which is a very slow operation. From my experience, on my microA1 I can get a very nice and smooth transition between two 1024x768 images on a 1024x768 screen using Warp3D mode. However when I try with some 4-6 megapixel images form a digital camera, video memory fills up and it becomes really slow. Basically with Warp3D, it's pretty much either perfectly smooth when you have enough videomem, or dead slow, when you don't, there's not much in between. Sam owners will have much better results, because they have twice as much video memory as uA1 owners.

Wow, another high quality product for OS4.x, just like DV Player.
I will of course register this program also.

Two questions:

- How do I set what screenmode WarpView should open?

- Any chance of making the Information view 'multi-task'?
As it is now, I must close the Information window before
next image can be loaded.

Thanks.

Regards,
Kotler
