And yes, is there an option to add
Creative Labs Sound Blaster and Radeon 9000 Pro and
that both Linux and OS 4.1 work on it (I do not see why not)?

Also, if enough PCI slots availiable, what other PCI SATA2, UW SCSI,USB2 ...
card you can recommend that is likely to work under OS 4.1 and Linux?
Any prices for these expansions?
Any chance of having some fancy case like Acube does?

And that is all I am gonna ask for now

P.S.
I hope we are about to make some interesting availiable Amiga configs

Yes, this is the thing.

I could part my A4000 out and sell each individual component to make enough money to buy two, maybe three SAM440s, but I'd have to be seriously convinced enough that I'd be getting a significant enough upgrade for doing so, and honestly I'm not.

I'm not trying to be nasty, but it's only a little board with hardware from a few generations ago. Surely there's a way of getting the costs down, making it in bigger batches, and selling more for less cost/unit to feed us hungry Amigans; some of us like myself, living on a shoestring.

My A4000 was put together slowly, over time, through a labour of love over a few years, when I was living at home.

I mean, I'm all for supporting the platform and helping broadening the userbase/community etc, but it'd surely go a lot further if it was more affordable.

I'd consider myself a die hard Amiga fan, but this one I'll have to let go until money becomes less of an obstacle.

Sorry...

Similar for Atari, heh.
and 3500 USD for Megamidget Racer (030) for Amiga probably would be considered shocking as well.

We're back to the "comparison" issue and those who are old timers compare more often with Amiga prices from yesteryear, where the newer users compare to other products/platforms on the market.

Give the dealer some slack, he deserves a profit for doing all the leg work & putting a package together.

A) PC manufacturers are specing themselfes into a grave yard.
This is due to 4core and 8core machines being sold to thousands of users very cheap, if for very little profit at all. Then in 3-5 years time a BIG GUZZY %%% of the market will not renew their machines no matter how many cores extra they get. Just not worth it. I mean what are they not going to be able to do with 4core machine in 3-5 years time.

What will they need an 8core machine in 3-5 years time? Maybe run Windows 8, which uses Real Time Raytracing for Ultra Realistic (tm) look? Run Doom 5 & Quake 6, where you can see the individual hairs on the monsters blow realistically from the blast of an explosion? You'll run Windows under a Virtual Machine (with associated performance loss), to keep you sandboxed from all the viruses. They will find a use for it

By that time 4GB will be too little to run Windows 8 (64-bit only) well, you'll need 64GB RAM for good performance, not to mention 1GB of Non-Volatile SRAM for "instant" booting.

Half the OS will run on the graphics cards GPU, thanks to NVidia's CUDA/etc... Top-end machines will run faster with a second graphics card for more processing power!

Speech recognition will finally work well, thanks to throwing insane amounts of processing power of GPUs.

P.S. We will run out of processing power (Moore's law will fail) long before we stop finding ways to waste that power for eye-candy & other useless things. Currently it looks like 8 cores may be a dead-end, due to memory access limitations, although surely Intel/etc will manage to keep things going a little longer.

@d0pefish
Sam440 is much faster than any Classic Amiga. But since OS4 doesn't run all Classic Amiga software (esp games & demos), not everyone will find it a complete replacement. Although maybe a Sam440 + a MiniMig might be the perfect partners for those people!

I Agree and Disagree...
A massive amount of existing users, will not even care about doing all that and more.

The people I am talking about, will be happy with classic games, classic looks and classic software. Just enough word processing and emailing and surfing etc... This group of consumers will be the majority.

Never the less, I look forward to seeing impressive amounts of real life hair on Doom XYZ
characters rendered in real time. I hope the Amiga will be doing this better with less CPU Mhz, to be honest though.

I'm not kidding this is a very serious and troubling time. Don't sell all the cookies to soon.

You know what...

At least it puts yellow dog into a good spotlight for the next gen multi-core enabled AmigaOS 4.x...

Other than that, is anybody drooling at the sudden price drop.

@d0pefish

I suggest you do what I did for my AmigaOne. Start putting money aside for your next machine. Assume that you will need 800 euros by the time you have all the hardware and software you will surely end up needing. I saved every month for 3 years. If the cpu price comes down you will be ready sooner with the money.

I do realize this is a state of mind, but my family does not go into debt. We always have had a positive net worth. No silver spoons either. We started with each of us having a 1/4 time job (when we met), then a 1/2 time job each when our baby was born, then full time jobs when the child became 6.

I have several Apple IIci and similar which had original price around $5000 but now can be picked up for $5 or from trash.Nobody is trying to sell clones of 20 year old Apples,but "clones" of new Apples.

Amigas are not immune to economics;I can't imagine new users paying current SAM prices.The well-heeled Amiga old-timers may buy a few hundred though,and at least something NEW is finally available to buy.

On the other hand a new Compaq AMD X2 2GHz,120GB Hd,2 gb ram ,wireless,bluetooth,camera,2 year warranty ,Vista OS, cost me $479 plus tax recently
And it runs Kubuntu 8.10 64bit well.Yet to try any emulators.

I'd like AmigaOS to run on my $99 efika 5200b;if SAMflex was a $199 board my order would have been placed,since it is going to be more expensive than generic PC million lot boards, but $500 to 600 is just too much.

@BigC
You seem to have forgotten how expensive old Amigas & their upgrades were. Sure, the hardware as arguably "better than a PC" at one point, but by the time Blizzard & Cyberstorm PPC cards that time was surely long gone (it was already about playing "catch-up the PC" in the 1990s). Yet the hardware was still expensive.

Plus the price of Sam440s will surely come down if they sell in larger quantities. So IMHO it is not a case of "(no) new users paying current SAM prices", but rather "gradually more new users paying SAM prices as the price gradually comes down". Whether this ever happens depends on how many ex-Amigans (of which there are millions) can be tempted back.
