Software News   Software News : Giddy returns to the Amiga!
   posted by xeron on 13-Feb-2009 21:20:12 (7792 reads)
In the early 90's, the shareware games "Wibble World Giddy" and "Giddy 2" were released for the Amiga. The proved pretty popular, but then in 2001 the third game, "Giddy 3" was released for MS-DOS. In 2008, I contacted the author and obtained the assembler source code, and converted it to C, and now its available for AmigaOS 4.1!

Download it from OS4Depot.

@Cass

It might work on 4.0 once the next MiniGL beta is released.

@AmigaBlitter

really? weird!

At os4depot.net i found a cool little tool, called Srec.I created a video with Srec which shows giddy3 and the "green"-error.

Have a look:

Well, its clearly not supposed to look like that, but i suspect the bug isn't in Giddy 3 itself. Most likely its somewhere in SDL, MiniGL, Warp3D, or your SAM board.

v1.2 is about to hit the depot. Changes:

All versions
- Giddy's speech bubbles and some other texts stay on the screen for a bit longer.
- The appearance of the hint bulb is a bit more obvious
- Fixed a nasty bug which meant that if you did things in a certain order the game became uncompletable.
- Included an Amiga version string
- Includes joystick support, but it is untested because SDL doesn't seem to find my joypad even though AmigaInput supports it. I'm guessing SDL might need an update.

@xeron

Can still get trapped in black earth. On way to eel one catches a bubble to get up a pipe in the cavern where one should jump to the right to advance to the eel. The bubble does not pop until it hits the roof of the cavern. Jumping too late lands our hero in blackness from which there is no escape.

@Xeron

Are you able to put the version number on the menu screen, just so we know which version we are running...

Rude!

Does anybody had the opportunity to run the AmigaInput program?

On my case I can't get more far away that a Grim Reaper message...

And Giddy looks very nice,I want to play it and get rid of my new Windows Vista haha!!!
