Software News   Software News : Two QuickFix releases for AmigaOS 4.1
   posted by Rogue on 25-Feb-2009 13:22:29 (11472 reads)
Two quickfix updates are available on the new Hyperion Entertainment web site for registered customers of AmigaOS 4.1 (for AmigaOne, SAM440ep or Pegasos II).

The elf.library fix contains an updated elf.library.kmod that fixes issues with binaries that have been compiled with the latest SDK. This is a highly recommended update.

The IDE driver update contains new versions of all IDE drivers delivered with AmigaOS 4.1. It is highly recommended for all users to install these. In particular, Pegasos II users will find that the new drivers offer a substantial performance increase.

Get them at the new download area on Hyperion Entertainment

It's a good thing that you have an account conversion page. The serial number on the small sticker that came with my OS 4.1 is fading (rubbing off?) and I would not have been able to enter the correct serial number again. I would advise others to write down the serial number for OS 4.1 or register before the number becomes unreadable. Thanks for the update!

@Rogue
It looks like the instructions and install script for the IDE fix place the documentation files in the wrong place. The current IDE docs are located in the SYS:Documentation/IDE directory. The script places them in their own directories in SYS:Documentation. That means that there will be duplicate doucmentation files for IDE and the user could read incorrect information if the old files are found first and the docs have changed. However, it looks like the doc files are unchanged so it is just an issue of duplicate files.

Good work Rogue and good luck this year with all the projects!!

Since the first time I have used AmigaOS4.1 on my AmigaOne I realized it has a very nasty bug that freezes the system on and on again.It is a bug that when you click on the gadget in the bottom right of the windows to rezize it,many times it locks the mouse pointer so you have to reboot to use OS4.1 again.

When will you fix this if possible?

For me OS4.1 seems a bit unstable since I buyed it but I know that with time it may improve and get better.

Hope to see this fixed soon.

I see two reasons for this happening:

1. You have a Sound Blaster sound card. These cannot live in piece with heavy gfx traffic such as 3D and probably also compositing or moving large digicam pictures around for example.
Get another sound card.

2. You run applications at a lower priority than 0 and therefore hit the bug I found a couple of weeks ago.
Change the priority of your applications.

Yes, it does (V3.7), but for downloading the files *I* needed good ol' IBrowse.

NetSurf also works with CSS and allows downloading.

I've been trying NetSurf, but had not much luck in using it. Never found out what caused it.

Mmm are you sure you don't have problem with your setup? OS4.1 is quite stable at least as OS4.0 here and i never had your problem on my A1 in the past. Check RAM, vcore and as suggested SB.

Save menu in OWB worked fine here.

@OldFart

There were some problems with the screen mode ID auto-selection, which have since been fixed (well, actually they've been scrapped). I'm not likely to do another public release for a month or so, but please give it another try when I do.

I noticed that there are no Heretic 2 downloads available (not that they'd do me any good), despite having registered it. I thought there used to be, so I assume they'll be added back again at some point?

Thanks for the reminder about NetSurf, as I didn't get my sam440 until after X-mas I had forgotten about the preview version.

I will have to download it and give it a go later tonight after installing the 2 updates for OS4.1 on my sam.

IIRC, disabling compositing (or at least transparency of inactive windows) is also an alternative to increasing app priority to 0 or greater.
