Hardware News   Hardware News : GVP-M and Software Hut Inc. have teamed up for new Amiga boards
posted by Roj on 27-Apr-2009 13:38:40 (9884 reads)
April 24, 2009 - GVP-M and Software Hut Inc. have teamed up to bring new Amiga boards to the market.

Through a joint effort, GVP and Software Hut are bringing to the Amiga market new accelerators, ram and video boards. Included in this are 060 boards for the 2000 and 4000 model computers as well as an 030 model for the A1200. All of these accelerators use standard 72 pin ram as well. This will be a limited run to gauge the demand in the market. We have tried to price these boards as low as possible taking into account many of them are completed and tested by hand due to small production runs. If the demand is strong, additional items, many of which have been unavailable for some time are planned. Supplies are limited on many of the items. The initial batch of boards and ram are due in stock this Monday, April 27. To see details please visit http://www.softhut.com/gvp

Inquiries can be directed to: sales@softhut.com or by calling 610-793-2354

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Even if someone buy a Mac is crazy since he could have a more cheaper PC (also at 1/3 of its price) without problem..

That's not true if you're talking about a Mac Pro. Mine has a 2.8Ghz Quad Core Xeon. At GamePC.com, these CPUs range from about $1,000 to $1,500, and now you have to build a computer around them. Whether these Xeons offer a huge performance increase over a Core 2 Quad is doubtful, but they are definitely more expensive, and they require an expensive motherboard, too. At Game PC I configured a PC to have essentially the same specs as my year-old MacPro, purchased for $2,799. The specs included the 2.8Ghz Quad Core Xeon, 2GB RAM, 500GB Western Digital HD, a GeForce 9800GT 512MB to substitute for the Mac's GeForce 8800GT 512MB, a DVD burner, OS, etc., plus a nice Silverstone Fortress case. The total came to $3,451 USD. That's almost $700 more than a 1 year old Mac.

I'll agree that it's easy to go to a less expensive builder such as Cyberpower and build a very potent Core i7 machine for $1,500 or less, but that's still much more than 1/3 of the Mac's price, and how quiet will it be? My MacPro, with all the previously mentioned gear plus 4 big HDs is extremely quiet. As for my PC, I need to wear earplugs to use it, and this is not my first PC by any means. All my PCs have been pretty loud, sometimes very loud.

So, the MacPro is the Rolls Royce of PCs, and is a bargain against comparable and probably much louder PCs. Excellence is worth paying for.

I was lucky enough to pick one up a few years back. It really is a great piece of hardware (the thing weighs a ton!)

The only thing I wish it had was a cpu slot... i'm limited to the derringer board that I have.

Only Problem is Software Hut.
I just can not trust them to send a working version of anything.
