Hardware News   Hardware News : New Sam440ep-flex at 733 Mhz
   posted by elwood on 24-Jun-2009 21:45:44 (22563 reads)
Bassano del Grappa, 24-Jun-2009

ACube Systems is pleased to announce a new change in its Sam440ep-Flex product line: the new Sam440ep-Flex board running at 733 Mhz that replaces the 800Mhz version (now out of production). This one has a RAM clock running at 147 Mhz, instead of 133 Mhz of the Flex 667.

The suggested price for this Flex 733 is 410 euros (excluding VAT and shipping).

True, and I don't see 68K ruled out either.

You can kill off market several ways;one way is to set prices too high and few people buy ,another way is to sell too low and the company cannot pay its suppliers and staff.

Another one is to sell something not adapted to the market you are targetting... Seems like it is the case to me. These are embbed boards...

Who cares how many cores vista supports?
Vista still sux, and on my, modestly quadcore 2,26 ghz/4gig HD, it still takes ages to load (more than 5 mins to load vista, Outlook and some basic ####, like IE), so obviosly, in windows world, its not how many cores you have. Its down to, do you use vista/windows or not??

Who cares about x86 CPUs, when Sam uses PPC, and AOS4.x only runs on PPC.

AOS will never be anything like windows, its AOS, not windows, ppl who are so much in love with x86 and windows, should stick to that, instead of dreaming that everything should immitate windows.

Now stop turning every news item into a "port it for x86" thread...

I am a bit of a bad mood.. :( and "port to x86" does not make it better.

@Hammer
At first) This is off topic discussion. (If it's not somehow related to one possible future of Amiga motherboards.)

Second) I guess you're not a native English speaker like I'm not either

3rd) This is hardware discussion and not software discussion so it has nothing to do with Winblows

4th) You can put multiple CPU's to a motherboard but I was discussing a single CPU not multiple of them. And no, threading does not count

5th) SHOW ME A ONE SINGLE SHOP WHICH SELLS AN INTEL OR AN AMD CPU WITH MORE THAN 4 OR 6 CORES AT THE CURRENT MOMENT (and like I already said multithreading and using multiple CPU's on a motherboard doesn't count) ! (Before anybody asks I'm intentionally shouting !)

Stop making off topic discussion. And remember this is an Amiga forum not Winblows one !!!!!!!!

That is only one problem for OS4, it's locked into a arch going no where. The other major problem for OS4, it's running out of options of single core CPUs, as is MOS and AROS. This is a result of keeping 3.1 API as holy scriptures, it crippled AROS/MOS/OS4's development for modern desktops and laptops.

Apply the same logic to this comment.

Sorry to nitpick, but isn't G4 == e600 ? QorIQ uses e500(mc) cores. Is e500 G2 or G3 ? (But still nice with 8 cores and 1.5 GHz manufactured in 45nm process.) Maybe 8641D would be better option than QorIQ. (Amiga software don't need such CPU speeds but Amiga making comeback with 8 cores when wintel people has max 4-6 cores would shock the world. One can always dream

http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2009/05/12/4175469.htm

"QorIQ products are sampling now to more than a dozen OEM customers and are being used in the development of next-generation networking and communications infrastructure equipment. Customer validation/bring-up activities have continued on or ahead of schedule and volume production is expected to begin in 45-nanometer at the end of 2009."

Some time in H2 2009, Intel will release 8-core Nehalem-EX processor i.e. retail. Nehalem-EX Is currently being sampled.

Who says that OS4 will stay PPC forever? But at the moment Hyperion does not seem able to afford to do the necessary work to move it to another CPU architecture (in a way that we would be interested in), so they need it to be a success on PPC before even considering moving to another one. (Not being in the middle of a recession would also help.)

Well, x86 wouldn't make AmigaOS like Windows. Much like the PowerPC port didn't change anything (but speed and loosing compatibility with 68k hardware banging stuff).

It will just make it faster and more accessible. Now, you can call it better or not. I personnaly think it is... And I don't care about your bad mood. Nor does anyone here cares. Just deal with it elswhere than here please: we have nothing to do with it...

Ok, I didn't know that. Only thing I knew is they were going to release 6 core Xeon's late this year. But is that Nehalem targeted to servers or desktops ?

@Tomppeli

There's google...

Due to competition, there's a change of plan.

"Intel gave a demo yesterday of its eight-core, 2.3 billion-transistor Nehalem-EX, which is set to launch later this year."

Intel's 6-core Dunnington is for legacy pre-QPI Xeon parts.
Intel's 8-core Nehalem-EX is for QPI Xeon parts.

Xeon targets workstations (e.g. Apple MacPro) and servers (e.g HP Superdome).

Face it, AOS4.x is PPC, no matter how much you repeat yourself, it won't change. Sorry.. But the x86 bunch, just seems like a bunch of whining 4 year olds.

@Yssing

Why the constant need to insult ? Why not stay out of the thread, it's not get more on topic by tossing in flame torches every now and then.

OFF-TOPIC:
Any Os4@x86 comments should belong outside of this "news comment" thread.

The reasons for not doing it now have been stated clearly. Lack of cash,time,people to do it, users and programs.

so until All of this changes why even bring it up ?

ON-TOPIC:

Great to see acube deliver hardware. It is too bad about the low speeds you guys have access to. But still, it sure does beat having nothing at all.

Before there is even need for multi core, shouldn't the OS actually support that first?
