Software News   Software News : Exodus In Stock Again
   posted by AndreasM on 23-Jul-2009 7:58:48 (5564 reads)
Since Exodus in its cardboard packaging ran out of stock we have got some fresh supply.

Recently a new delivery arrived us directly from the programmer.

Starting today the Exodus original CD in a jewel case with inlay card (WITHOUT cover card, without cardboard packaging) is available in our online shop for just 5 Euro.

The version with cardboard packaging is completely sold out.

@Toaks
I am do deep search over the all amigaworld.net, and found some threads about exodus, where ppl try to test it. And i also found , that someone have the same problem with cdda.device, which was never solved for him . As i see mosly guys can run exodus on a1, where is a1ide.,device is present (they change it over the cdda). On pegasos2 and i think on SAM we not have cdda.device , or any other device which we can set over the cdda. So, just dunno how all the new user can play in it. I have only some ideas:

1. making "empty" cdda.device. Which only have name,version, etc, but all the fucntions inside are empty and do nothink.

2. wreiting the full replacement of cdda.device (dunno how hard it).

3. trying to use 68k version of cdda.device (but i think there will be no luck).

Any ideas ?:)

@kas1e

Dummy CDDA.Device might work, and it should be easy to remap it to some thing else, I just question if its worth the energy, if this is the only game using it.

maybe you should wake up and realize that this is a 9 year old game and the developer left the market and most of all, this is the Amiga market.

Well with quotes like these it looked like it was worked on:

I was surprised to see it mentioned. Now had they said they just come into some stock and not mentioned the programmer I wouldn't have thought he was still active.

@hypex

yes i see how that comment could do that.

anyways, the developer is active per se but not programming anything more on the Amiga/For the Amiga.

@ALL
As for the CDDA.device problem, i do recall this and i think it was because of a faulty /older update to exodus.

I'll make sure to send latest 68k archives to AndreasM asap incase he has some old ones on the site.

The developer of this game sent me the updates via snailmail just for the sake of it, i had the game running allready so i never looked at the files really, that said he also stated that the updates on the disc where just "the archive" of files he had stored away (hence, everything was released).

@kas1e

i havent tried OS4.1 on PEG2 , so i don't know for sure but a1ide.device (or sii/sata) are all placed in sys:kickstart/ .
if they somehow threw thoose out then i am sure they put in some other device for it and using the old codebase too (hence, type in that device and youre ok).

PS:exodus works on SAM with 4.1, thats now confirmed and no tweaking was made either, i just copied my exodus folder from the a1 onto the sam and pressed start, then i inserted the cd (when prompted), game ran fine.

PPS: i'll do a full install from scratch as soon as i have more than 10 minutes of free time.

@AndreasM
I downloaded new patches from apc-tcp. In archive i found only one exe file which fix the problem, in directory "no-cdrom". So, i put it in my exodus directory (which already have apped patch to convert to cgx version). Then, after running, it runs, and show me the first picture, but then nothink. I can move mouse over that picture, i can swith back to aos by amiga+m, etc. So, everythink looks like works, but i have no menu or somethinki to start play in game. Maybe i need to do somethink else for ?

try to put everything on the hdd and do an assign (cdname -> game folder).

leave the cd in the drive though (for the wonderfull cdda).

other than that...no idea really, check with snoopy/snoopdos for more info.

(sorry for late reply but i am just too busy to follow up threads obviously :( )
