Software News   Software News : Poseidon USB Sources Released under APL
   posted by deadwood on 27-Aug-2009 15:10:39 (8353 reads)
Following the implementation of bounty requirements and transfer of bounty payment, the source codes for Poseidon USB are now available under the terms of AROS Public License.

The Poseidon USB Stack, previously available for AmigaOS 3.x and MorphOS, is now also available for AROS and brings vast support for USB 1.1 and 2.0 chipsets. The Poseidon is already included in the latest version of Icaros distribution. Download and enjoy.

Thanks go to everyone who contributed to this major achievement, from people donating the money and Chris working on port to AROS developers making minor bug fixes and finally AROS users testing numerous alpha and beta versions.

Source codes are available for download in the main AROS source package.

Unified on all platforms, more advanced with lots of class (the new UVC - universal video class) recently, work verry well,..... are important for poseidon.

As I said, maybe just AOS4 .device are needed. Maybe the last version 68k of poseidon work allready ??????

Last time I looked, Sirion had no support for Isochronous transfers and judging by a lot of reports over here, Sirion has serious issues with masstorage and other things... No idea if Poseidon is better though, but AFAIK it does support Isochronous transfers (which is reuiqred for anything realtime, like audio and video).

That would be CrossDOS. What does Poseidon use as it's Fat-File-System on other systems?

@ZeroG

It's not using FAT95 on MorphOS, and probably not on AROS either, even if it can actually be used too.

There is built-in FAT filesystem support in MorphOS 2 and AROS and native FAT fs for OS3 and MorphOS 1 on Aminet.

FAT95 is awesome (incredibly reliable), and the only FAT filing system I would touch on OS3.x .

Is there a way to make FAT95 override CrossDos on OS4? I doubt Poseidon can override Sirion on OS4 (for Sam, which needs Sirion at boot time for the keyboard/mouse).

poseidon uses fat95 on "classic" by default but it is adjustable. in fact the only issue ever i had was copying huge files from/to fat media using dma enabled setting. it seems it has improved but im not sure if it is completely fixed. anyways poseidon is otherwise quite dependable as for what i need it for.
