Another pompous moron lucky enough to have fast broadband with a don't give a damn attitude for the rst of us. Don't you realise many of us CANNOT get the speeds required to download such large files.

I see you live in London where most of the UK taxes and money earned by big corporations (like BT) ends up being spent, try getting fast broadband living somewhere else in the UK. Then you would not have this selfish attitude.

Just the response I expected given *your* attitude. You just do not give a damn that many people will not be able to download big files do you. Instead of that disparaging attitude why not just be thankful that you can but not criticise others for complaining about large downloads when they do not have the option to be able to do so.

@all

Everybody deserves to be on the Internet at whatever speed is available. If Broadband is available then excellent, if not then we will ALL do our best to help them into our Amiga like world as much much as is viable with limited resources. However, any user on dialup must accept they miss out as the digital world has moved into an age of larger data throughput.

However, this thread is about IcAros 1.1.4 and how the Amiga environment on x86 is evolving at a good pace.

I understand the point about Amikit uploader which is brilliant, and yes at some point down the line IcAros will have that but Paolo spends a huge amount of his spare time preparing IcAros and I believe Amikit author makes money and hence can spend even more time on it and sometimes it shows.

Aros and IcAros are coming on well and I believe next year will be a great year for it.

All in all well done Paolo, yet again.

Steve

So, let me see what we have here:
Tompelli can use such strong word and he is an OS4 fan (read other topics) and not being warned.
The daddy can start flame war and he is OS4 fan and not being warned.

I am fan all all amiga OS'ed (although i have only aros) and have 2 warnings because i told people that they are blindly following trademarks (proof is above) and guided by the carrot-and-stick which is a saying here in Serbia (and thought it is all over the world but i was wrong, language barriers i guess).

I guess that OS4 fans can say whatever they want and not worry at all. Interesting...

Now, before i get banned (don't worry, even Arnold got back ), i must say that i REALLY admire all the hard work Paolone and the AROS team make. Really! Aros is great concerning it is Open Source, no revenue and get flamed by OS4 fans just because 'it is not amiga' (as daddy said). Yes, it is unstable and Dopus doesn't work (at least on my PC), but i kinda like it very much.
There is one thing that i would really like aros to have. It would be nice if Aros would be Zune based (like MOS and MUI) so i can iconify window. But amistart would still register it is in the system, like in Windows (you can hide window but still have it in taskbar) so i could uniconify it by clicking on either icon or in amistart's taskbar.

Also, if it would have gfx acceleration for even 1 specific card, i would surrelly buy one. Shame that i can't watch movies on 900MHz which i can on XP with less than 20% CPU time.

I will give this version a try in a few days as i am bit too busy right now.

Paolone; i see aros team only accept donations via PayPal. Any change of other CC processor as PayPal doesn't support Serbia? I can't afford more than 10-15 euros at the time, sorry, but for at least a beer (here, it would be 10-15 beers).

Good for you.
I do care if my favourite OS has the Amiga name, Workbench and so on...

We all want that.

What are you on about, as I said that was MY OPINION, I said that I consider Amiga the SAM with OS4.1 on, you can't argue with that. At least I can call my SAM an Amiga as it's running (natively) OS4.1, what is wrong about that?
When an off the shelf pc will be able to run OS4.x natively then TO ME that will be an Amiga as well. Simple. I am NOT starting any flame wars, try and guess how much I care trying to do that.

>>i must say that i REALLY admire all the hard work Paolone and the AROS team make.

Check the posts, NOBODY here is arguing that, well done Paolone and AROS, we just got fed up with the High Speed Internet assumptions and comments, that's all.

To me AROS is not Amiga, to you it is. End of story.

>>Yes, it is unstable and Dopus doesn't work (at least on my PC), but i kinda like it very much.

Good, enjoy it.

Well done Hyperion.

@BillE

Firstl of all think of me what you want, I honestly don't care !

Second, If you need a statement from me about Icaros updates then yes it's a shame you have to coupe with big files, Paolo already told you why but I DON'T think it is idiotic.

Perhaps Paolone can offer up the image to CD-Baby or something like most Linux distros use in helping distribute their product to those with dial up connections.

At any rate - this thread, in my opinion, has seen some of the most wacky nonsense that I'd care to see. (Straw that broke the camel's back - kinda thing for me)

Though I am not much of a poster on this site - my days are truly numbered here I think - I don't know how much more I can take.

No VirginMedia coverage over there? Not that I'd be surprised, they do not cover every area.

@Srbin

I've said similar things to you and not had warnings so far, so I'm pretty happy with the site's lack of bias. Having said that, I think it's unfair on Paolone to have this "what is Amiga?" conversation in the Icaros news item (being a nice guy, he probably doesn't mind though!) - take it to the forums.

This is free software, excellent free software at that, produced by Amiga community people for the whole community to benefit!

---- back to Icaros! ---

The last update was great. I had a few problems on the Mac - I couldn't get the VE version running in VirtualBox, and the Live version wouldn't decompress for me with 2 different 7-zip unarchivers. I'll try 1.1.4 today or tomorrow. I'm looking forward to a faster OWB that can open in its own screen, although it works perfectly. Email, PDF reading and so on work well. I'm not a fan of the taskbar though - is there an equivalent of Amidock I could use? A vertical orientation option might also sway me if the author ever builds that in.

This is probably best asked on Aros-Exec, but how about breaking from the AROS norm and combining the Utilities, Tools and System folders? EDIT: Never mind, that's probably better done in AROS itself. Another suggestion though - What about having the contents of Work:Extras into the parent folder? Tests, Development and Demos could still sit alongside those apps. Might be more user-friendly / reduce clicks to find yours apps. What do you think?

Chris

It seems you don't understand how this works. As a moderator we don't have time to read every single post on a forum, even though we try at times, so we need the users help with this. That's why we have the Abuse Report system. You will see the little image of a button saying "Report" with every post made here. Click it, and send the report to us, otherwise we might actually miss it. In your case there have been several abuse reports and we have only processed two of them. You might even consider yourself lucky perhaps?

There is also the little piece in the Terms of Service that says:

Quote:
Adjudication: Whilst AmigaWorld.net moderation tries to be fair and balanced sometimes errors can occur. If you disagree with a specific instance where you have been moderated then please put your complaint to the Webmaster, an Administrator or another moderator for consideration and possible action. Arguments about specific moderation incidents are not tolerated on the public forum, use the adjudication process open to you.

I highlighted the importand part for you. This could, if we wanted to, have rendered you another posting restriction, but I'll let it slide this time.

Quote:
I guess that OS4 fans can say whatever they want and not worry at all. Interesting...

We have moderated many OS4 users, and I have even been restricted myself here, before I became a moderator, so this is false to begin with. Stop trying to provoke people all the time...

Joachim Birging

The average broadband speed in the UK is 4Mbit/sec - not bad I think (although not fantastic either).

Oh, I've seen this subject arise so many times, that I don't even notice it anymore. Everyone here has its own opinion about what is Amiga and what isn't, however if a project that comes from old Amigans inside the Amiga community for Amigans "is not Amiga", I don't know exactly what else it could be.

Maybe someday I'll win the lottery and will buy Amiga Inc, and release Icaros Desktop as AmigaOS NG. Then I would really like to see what the "it doesn't come from official channels" peope will have to say.

Great post, best I've seen in a long time.

@BillE

I'd recommend going to a gaming lounge. They'll let you download a large 400mb file and burn it onto a dvdr in about 20 minutes, and I dont think it'll cost more than $3 USD. Internet cafes or gaming lounges are getting notoriously cheap, but thats if you're lucky enough to live in a big city with those sorts of facilities. Last time I had to, they let me use WiFi on my laptop for 45 minutes, upgrade my linux distro, and I only had to pay about $3 NZD!! prices and availability vary greatly of course, so I'm not going to tell you this is the ultimate solution for you. :) just a suggestion. When you're poor, or on slower hardware, or whatever, you gotta get creative. :)

And yeah, to the other guys, people choose their internet or have it chosen for them for different reasons.. just ease up a bit.

Isn't that a bit too girly to report someone everytime i don't disagree? No wonder i have so many reports, i never reported anyone except ony guy for nationalism. OT on amiga site. I really avoided that option, but will use it from now everytime i see flame war or insults...

@jahc

The very same thing i did 5-6 years ago when i destroyed data on my hard disk on a1230 (i am still shamed of the way i did that, but i am a type of reading instructions AFTER i make a problem).

I didn't complain why i have to download 60++MB's (i was on modem than) or why IBrowse is so big etc . Instead, i did the same thing as you did; went to gaming loung, downloaded all i needed ATM and payed some small money. Even in that time it was cheap.
