I must say that as I just returned to the Amiga scene from which I've been away for a long time, I do not have much knowledge about past delays.
To get some infos I purchased some back issues of Amiga Future, the first of which is issue 74 with the OS 4.1 announcement for AmigaOne platforms.
Following subsequent issues I learned that:

they brought o.s 4.1 to the Sam 440EP board and to pegasos 2 after that, then Acube released the SamFlex board.

I went to Pianeta Amiga last Saturday and I saw the latest (still unreleased but apparently fully working) new update of Amiga OS 4.1 (ask AFXgroup about the new USB transfer speed, he seemed quite happy about it ^__^) which was also running Blender.

Then I try Gnash and discover that Firefox is coming to OS 4.1, and by reading issue 80 of Amiga Future (which I bought there) I discover HDRLab project about Radeon HD Drivers (which by the way will be eventually extended to the Radeon HD4350 a card that comes with a second generation UVD chip) and to which I also donated.

I don't know but as an outsider just back, it would seem a lot of developments for a single year, so my guess is that something as changed as of late...

You saw a lot of things that where not ready, under development or just announced. That is exaclty the state of many Amiga projects in the last 10 years.

There's a huge difference between a 1.66Ghz and a Sam440 running at 666Mhz. It's doesn't run just at more than twice the frequenzy but also has faster memory bus, L2 cache and other nice features compared to the pumped up old 603 design. The gfx card bus is probably faster too.

BTW, Amizilla guys created a binary that didn't output graphics. Since Mozilla uses Cairo it's far more portable I guess that an updated version could output something like Timberwolf more or less soon. Let's hope Frieden's work acts as a catalyzer.

I used to run FF3.0 on an Athlon thunderbird at 800Mhz and it didn't feel that slow, it was completely acceptable for everyone. Opera was faster though and I'd much prefer a port of Opera.

Anyway if a 233Mhz Pentium with 64 MB ram is the hardware requirements a 233Mhz604e with 128MB should do the trick ?
Yes, I know OS4 is not very memory efficient but either the hardware requirements on the FF site are bogus or it's another case of a port that's bloated and slow.

If you have a PC, on AROS there is too progress done, and on 68k.
but all in all i think nobody of the Fans of this OS can say that the other OS is more obsulte or more outdate.
On all OS there es progress done.68k AOS is too replaced with AROS code and enhanced.

on this platform is too opensource software port but they release all the source, so everybody can help or if he find bugs that nobody fix, he can do that.

I understand the jaded point of view of anybody that followed the scene steadily (tons of Announcements with no delivery in the past).
Still i don't know about that, you see, Boxer was announced and never delivered while Acube that had to do with Sam and Minimig delivered both and, at the same time, what I saw (and tried first hand) at "Pianeta" was real and worked (anybody could try stuff out, or ask for a practical demonstration) so it wasn't some kind of vaporware or fake screenshots (everything truly felt finished or almost finished) I would guess that's still better than the past wouldn't you agree?

I asked Bill P to get a refund of my $40 donation towards Amizilla because:

1. Nothing substantial has happened for 6 years+!!
2. I will get Firefox for OS4 elsewhere
3. I don't like the 25% split that was introduced

I got a reply from Bill P (DiscreetFX) saying he understood and agreed with me. Problem was that he was no longer in charge of Amizilla !!! But he would ask the ex Netscape guy who was now in charge.
Personally I would _never_ let anyone else control amigabounty without telling people and giving them a chance to get a refund of their donations.

EDIT: Waiting to see the updated Amizilla f.a.q.

Why all the panic? DiscreetFX is one of the biggest supporters of Amiga and Amiga bounty's. Give us an executable of TIMBERWOLF to show to the ex-Netscape executive when he is back in town. I'm sure he would be on board and very happy if he has a copy of TIMBERWOLF to run on his MicroA1. Thanks for posting a link to an interview on our site. What was said in the interview about AmiZilla still stands today.

At the least I think letting us know who is charge of the money. Telling us the whole thing has been put in charge of "Anonymous" is a little frustrating.

Personally I'd like to transfer my money toward NetSurf as the 3.0 version for 68k is amazing. So I can understand others wanting to move there money to this new bounty especially considering who's working on it and the near 100% likely hood they'll pull it off as always.

At the same time if someone has been working this whole time and hoping to win the Amizilla money I don't want to rip the carpet out from under them so to speak, but has there been any news of people working on a port? Last news I saw has officially been over 3 years ago on http://amizilla.sourceforge.net/


But hopefully we'll at least get to know who's in charge now.
