Announcement   Announcement : BOUNTY: AMP package for AmigaOS4.1 (Apache, MySQL and PHP).
   posted by Troels on 6-Oct-2009 21:00:06 (8909 reads)
This bounty consists of two phases both assigned to AmiCygnix developer Edgar Schwan.

First bounty covers phase one and will bring an up-to-date Apache, MySQL and PHP to AmigaOS4.1 via AmiCygnix.
The package will contain a minimal AmiCygnix installation, so you won't need to install the large AmiCygnix base package.
A bounty of minimum EUR 500 must be reached for Edgar to port these applications.

Read more...

When phase one is complete, we will open a bounty for phase two. Phase two consists of a fully native port of Apache, MySQL and PHP utilising whatever the current version of AmigaOS4.x has to offer. A bounty of EUR 300 must be reached to get the fully native port.

This is correct. AmigaOS is not secure enough to host websites. The main goal of this package is development!

Cool, that's what I thought, but I just wanted to make sure.

Good to hear about this update, although I would prefer to see a native port straight off (with bigger bounty target if need be...)

Developing my php scripts under amigaos is much more comfortable than under linux I've found. Although there are some pitfalls. Lack of multiuser means amiga based scripts can do stuff that linux based ones can't so you can end having to rewrite stuff if your not aware of this.

I'm suprised the php part will need amicygnix when the exiting php port seems to work fine without it. The other two are quite big steps up from the available versions though so much may have changed with them.

I donated too.
All these developments are bringing Aos4.1 to the next level and I am really happy about it

Did you try Phped? It is simply too good to be real!

Wine under linux could help you.

This is great news.

Very good bounty, with these updated software, we can have database, client and server tools, and the first steps towards Massivly Multiplayer Online (MMO) games !

For example PKO(Tales of Pirates) online server files:

So does that mean 500 euros per OS, because Maybe another bounty running alongside for Aros would be good. That would mean double the money and not double the work. I would pay half of this if I can get the other half raised.

Perhaps somebody could PM me about this.

@CygnusEd

Just an informations.

The first part is 500 euros.

The second part is 300 euros (for the Amiga native port).

- It isn't strange to have the amiga port less money than the first part ???

- It's more complicated to update all and port the missing one than making an amiga version for all ???.

I'm just not arrive to see how complicated It could be.

OK it appears I misread the message, no chance of Aros port. Oh Well.

Porting Apache 1.3 + PHP5 + MySQL Support (not MySQL server, but MySQL client in PHP) is not that difficult and can be done with -noixemul option.
I mean ,it does not require amiCygnix, nor ixemul.
Some work will have to be done to make it stable and to let apache stop without crashing.

Porting MySQL is a bit harder, since it's highly tight to the pthread library and this require a fully working pthread library...
For those who need MySQL, you can already use the 68k version, but you will have to find an ixemul.library that works with it.
MySQL 4.0.4 : http://amiga.comscripts.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=37&forum=2&1
MySQL 4.1.0 : http://amiga.comscripts.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=43&forum=2&7

this 2 versions are unstable, quite ok with single query, but usually crash with insert queries. Create Database does not work, but this is not a problem with MyIsam format since a directory = a database....

@Mrodfr

The point is, that I can use the changes I have to make for AmiCygnix also for the native version. Why I use AmiCygnix first? Because all the libraries and includes I need for this project are already compiled for AmiCygnix.

For the second phase I have to recompile/adapt all these libs and to make further adaptions. But the main work (bug hunting, testing, ...) is made in the first phase.

Finally: It's easier for me to start with an AmiCygnix version and I can publish it much earlier than the native version.

@SixK

Again: I use AmiCygnix, because all dependencies are already solved here. Especially PHP needs a lot of external libs.

And: Just compiling a project is not the point. My package will be stable and well tested. I have to spend a lot of time in this. The bugs of the above port are unacceptable.

@CygnusEd,
You should have better compatibility with amiCygnix or ixemul.
With PHP, most problems I had was some path problems...

AmigaOS must be promoted to the next level with native ports of modern infrastructures.

I do not syndicate the "modus operandi" CygnusEd will be using, as long as he finishes the project and delivers (in the second phase I know) the native ultra stable ports.

@CygnusEd

I will look forward to the bounty being completed as it will be very nice to be able to run current version of the AMP packages on the under OS4.x for development use rather than requiring a second computer or to duel boot linux for any real web development work on a next gen Amiga.

I also completely agree with the first stage on the ports using AmiCygnix and find it very useful to have on a development system anyway.

I expect as soon as people get there heads wound the fact that it is only x11 apps that feel a bit slow under AmiCygnix on the sam440ep they will be a lot happier with the stage 1 port.

@CygnusEd

Thanks for your explanations I understand much better why more money for part 1 than part 2 (porting and bugs hunting for stable version).

Hope you will have the time to make this bounty and improving also amicygnix (speed).

BTW, Have you seen-hearn or read, at the pianeta, a new debian linux version with more speed than the actual one has been showed ?? (actually tested and not diffused).

From the nubechecore english report. I don't know if this could have a link with giving better speed for amicygnix IMHO .....

Wouldn't this work without unix libs?

On AmigaOS3.x it used to work with ixemul but perhaps clib or newlib make it easier

@All

Raise the bounty to 500 euros, and I'll add the 300 euros myself. At least Edgar won't spend time doing his package.

@Edgar

You'd better start coding right now
