Do I have to remind you that this is Amigaworld.net not 'TooHot to Handle' at Amigans.

I am sure Dammy was aware he was on Amigaworld and not Moobunny when he posted his fairly measured and considered piece.

When your business partner forms another corporation that is now in direct competition to your jointly sold product with their own jointly sold product, I'd say someone just got screwed. Especially in this tight, tiny, and stagnant market share were every sale lost is another nail in the viability of continuing sales' coffin. I believe I commented on one of the boards about X1000 being a "Osbourne Effect" to SAM440 sales. I fear I was correct.

It was reported that ACube was notified very early on of A-EON's plans. Lots of lead time. So I don't think they were "screwed". ACube has had lots of time to think about what to do with the SAM, and if they have already decided to produce any follow-on product, they would be far along that path now.

Woah that's only half of what I paid for my XE motherboard!

Perhaps I'm wrong. Let's swap out ACube for Eyetech, how do you think Eyetech would have handled it if they were told their A1 mobos were going to be considered entry level and Ben with two partners were going to produce a high end system? I give ACube a lot of kudos for doing what they did, that took a lot of guts on their side to jump in and replace Eyetech's position.

ACube has developed products also outside Amiga market (EyeMotion, NetStore), so I'm pretty sure ACube do not rely only on Amiga sales.
(Hyperion is just one of the partners: http://www.acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=company )

But ACube has also been Amiga products distributor, now they are going to have another Amiga product to sell, the x1000. So, more business for ACube.

For people considering to buy SAM or x1000, I remind that x1000 will cost about 1500¤, perhaps a little more.

Well that is no fun at all. So much for the conspiracy theorists.

BTW, I have a Sam-flex and it is a very solid board. I'd highly recommend updating the UBoot and AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1 for the best experience. Not a bad price as well and it is proven technology. It will go nicely right beside an X1000 once they are available.

Maybe when the X1000 comes out they'll reduce the price of the SAM permanently. The X1000 might actually spur sales of the SAM. The X1000 will get their interest, they'll decide they can't afford one, and they'll buy a SAM instead. It would be nice if the SAM got down to $300 or $400 for a complete system (with an Amiga-specific case), kind of like the old 1200.

Then it's a good thing that didn't happen. Ben hasn't been a managing partner at Hyperion for several years, now. You know - since before the lawsuit started.

That never occurred to Eyetech, so there is no reason to speculate on that in my mind.

And where is it written that Acube has to be "entry level system vendor"? Besides you think A-Eon will be lucky to sell anything right? Given that position how does that really hurt Acube in the long run? Especially since half the reason they formed the company was from being enthusiasts anyway?

I didn't say he was the managing partner, he did in fact leave that official position (and shares) back in 2003. However, if you review #128, even Kinsel referred Hyperion as Ben and Evert (page 3). In 128 on pages 2 & 5, AI's attorney gives us a more clarity of what Ben's roll is with Evert five years after he officially left Hyperion, not only as Hyperion's attorney but " still acts in a business capacity for Defendant." Based on the above, Ben may not still be Evert's "official" partner in Hyperion, but he may as well still be with his current role.

Noting the above relationship Evert and Ben continue to have, what difference would Ben's official status make to ACube having Ben come in with a high end system still in development and promoting it that will effect SAM440 sales month prior to any possible launch of the AmigaOne X1000? I just feel sorry and sympathize with ACube is all, is that truly a bad thing?

Let me rephrase it then. Do you think Eyetech (when they were still operational with A1 sales) would be OK with ACube selling SAM440 with OS4 along side their A1s? Low end vs Eyetech's high end? If Eyetech wouldn't put up with that, why should ACube be happy with A-EON promotion of vaporware AmigaOne X1000 months ahead of any possible release?

Since the presented prices are Tax Free, and I am going to import the board to Serbia (Southeast Europe, but not an EU member) I am intersted, HOW to purchase the board without Italian or German VAT, since I am going to pay Import taxes which are the way higher and I am NOT going to use it in Germany or Italy.

I understand your point, but wait and see new Amiga 1000 price.

I believe you will find that it will be even more overpriced then Acube
thus they will NOT complete directly.

Also, Hyperion is free to form alliances with anyone.

So, not a mistake, but improvent.

Exactly. I don't understand people who say that Hyperion have screwed ACube because of forming a partnership with A-Eon. C'mon, this is business world, not a boyscout summer camp!

Not so. As has been explained numerous times in the past the SAM and the X1000 are not in direct competition as they are so vastly different in price.

Even if they were in direct competition - (which they clearly are not) what are we supposed to do? Never release new hardware in case we upset the producers of the older model? That would be just plain foolish and invite stagnation - the very last thing the market needs.

As it happens I will be purchasing a SAM440 as I feel that the price is best for me and the X1000 announcement has not changed that.

Who knows? If you're looking for me to say 'no they wouldn't' then I don't agree as it depends on price and spec. Look - anyone entering the Amiga hardware market has got to be very aware of the fact they are taking a huge risk. They are also aware that Hyperion owns the OS and if they want to set up alongside another hardware company then that's up to them as they are doing it to drive the OS forward.

I really think you are trying to create a void between A-Eon and ACube where none exists and expending quite a bit of energy attempting to do so which is a little bit sad.

I believe that the 2 pieces of hardware can co-exist very well which is a remarkable achievement in such a small market. You seem to suggest that you don't - well that's your opinion and I can only disagree.
