NO, it actually doesn't matter that you "did not talk before of the 460ex", because the reasons that were told to you about "WHY low production custom HW costs this much" are just the same, you know them well, and yet you keep reapeating the usual bulls*hit ignoring the realities of a small market.
What you say it's not trolling, but the silly 200 GODZILLION TIME repetition is. You have been replied to (on your biased price comparisons) as many times, and yet, you keep repeating the same things over and over again.
Your choices, Amiga wise, are not the same as the majority, and this situation is getting at you big time. You keep telling everyone your usual mantra, because you want to point out that AFA on emulated Amiga is a better way to go, but sooner or later you should simply realize that people have chosen otherwise, so live with it and stop pestering everyone with trite arguments you keep repeating at infinitum, or at least say something you didn't say nor have been replied to, 300 billion times.

@Dax
>you about "WHY low production custom HW costs this much" are just the same,

there are lots other that produce in the embedeed market too with small quantities for Linux.

>You have been replied to (on your biased price comparisons) as many times,

that i now write is only because you attack me offtopic with AFA.
And you also want tell that OS4 systems are the majority. So i ask where i can see that, that most users have a OS4 System.

>You keep telling everyone your usual mantra, because you want to point out that >AFA on emulated Amiga is a better way to go, but sooner or later you should simply >realize that people have chosen otherwise

I still have realize it.
there use not much AOS anymore, if 1 AOS is used by 1000 people another AOS is used by 200 people, is really no diffrence for me.

>Your choices, Amiga wise, are not the same as the majority,

Where can i see what is amiga wise and what use the Amiga majority ?

and BTW: i dont want use the majority when i can do with AOS, i want a fast, stable and cheap AOS to use, if i want use the majority, i should better use Linux, windows or Mac more and do nothing with AOS.

I meant the majority of AW users, and by the way, those that produce for Linux use different technology, this one has this cost.
People here like PPC custom HW (aside from you and few others), please accept this simple fact. (and please don't repeat the usual arguments to which you've been replied to a godzillion times).

also nobody here have written a argument, wy a non OS4 user should pay 600 Eur for this board, because there are lots diffrent X86 or ARM solution around that give in my point of view a better price /power.

Personaly I'm getting fed up with the same 'x86 is cheaper and faster' argument over and over again.
We all know that ! And OS4 on x86 is not going to happen anytime soon. So give it a rest for christs sake !
No seriously... STOP IT !! All of you ! (you know who you are)

Sigh.... Should have ignored it.....

Well for the first point I would say that it depends on what you need to do, 64Mb would be enough for some, while other have the option o installing a nice PCI-E card on that X4 slot. As for Blender, I would suggest those interested in 3D graphics to get an X1000.

For modelling it wouldn't make that much of a difference, for actually rendering the images, don't kid yourself a fast PC is a must.

in my eyes bernd has made technically valid point, yet it sounds similar like his other statements, because it is the same case again and again.

for better understanding there are two possibilities:

1. sam boards are developed exclusively for ao4 or at least this is the main target.
so why do they feature thisunnecessary low performance gfx unit and what is the reason not to have another sata socket. and last but not least what about that:
manu

Notes: the SATA2 port and the PCI-e 1x slot are mutually exclusive, only one of them can be used
at time:
Sam460ex
End User Manual...

Notes: the SATA2 port and the PCI-e 1x slot are mutually exclusive, only one of them can be used

frankly, doesnt that disqualify this board for desktop usage? or is it at least a bunch of very foul compromises?

2. sam boards are build for embeded market and os4 support is a side effect.
so how they survive with this price tag? or do the amiga customers just pay the difference?

i mean a board very similar to what it is, just apart of mentioned issues for an adequate price and supporting both markets would be quite a solution here. no?so why this?

@wawa

Disqualify it for desktop usage? No, but in reality it forces the user to install a IO
card on the lone PCIe slot if he/she wants more than a single SSD/HDD/optical
connected. Which leads to the major problem IMO..

The user cannot use whatever graphics card he/she wants because it needs to be
a single width card. Most later gfx cards I have seen are double width cards.
This is the MAJOR problem I see with ACubes "modular" approach on the current
layout of the board.

If the PCI slot was in the middle instead of the PCIe 1x it would have been a little
better, I think.

EDIT: Sorry, I must be blind.. The PCI slot is in the middle! So it's not such a big
problem anyway..
This however does not make the choice of having the Silicon Motion onboard instead
of a SATA chip better IMO.

I am already building a home for my Sam460ex. I have the case (Antec NSK1380) and I just installed the SATA DVD Writer and 2 SATA disk drives. I am going to use the 3114 card from my old A1XE (now deceased). I will use the onboard graphics, as that will do all I need. I am going to hook this up to a 61" Samsung TV which has a VGA connector. The TV will do up to 1280x1024 from the VGA connector, so this is all good. I'll need a copy of Amiga OS for Sam460ex. I hope it's ready around the time that the motherboard is.

Come on September!

Weird board.

What I would have preferred: (another weird board)
- flex-ATX form factor (21.6 x 17 cm)
- 8 layers PCB
- AMCC 460ex SoC 1.066 Ghz
- 2 GB DDR2 Ram – 200-pin SODIMM 533 Mhz (32Bit???)
- Xena chip, preconfigured to function as a GPU
- Audio 5.1 Realtek ALC655 codec
- PCI-express 4x lanes slot (16x mechanical connector)
- PCI-express 1x lane slot (* check notes below)
- PCI slot, 32 bit, 66/33 Mhz, 3.3V
- 1x SATA2 port (* see notes below)
- 6x USB2 EHCI/OHCI ports
- 2x 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports
- no Lattice XP, but xorro instead (initially occupied by VGA/DVI connector, buffer ram and some I/O)
- integrated SD card reader
- RTC clock
- Serial port, 8-wires
- I2C and SPI/I2C buses
- passive cooling
- U-Boot 2009.08

ok, but i do write nothing from OS4.OS4 is currently out of sight, or do read a announcement that OS4 is port to that board ?

when want run OS4 on this board you need gfx drivers, 3d access to the Chip(for OS4 compositing or play some games or do 3d graphic) and PCIe support.

I dont know have the silicon Motion Chip they use Hardware 3D ?

Even when a SAM460 user can plug a X1000 graphic card in(because there are drivers here) there can come the problem that this GFX Card need too much power in Watts for the PCIe slot or does not fit in the Slot.

so i think before hope that this board get OS4 running, we should better wait until Hypeiron do a Statement if this board is support.

because when there are more hardware that are support, then the sells divide by the number of user.but the cost to bring OS4 running on the Hardware get not fewer if the board for OS4 is less sell.

IMHO some people will buy this board and try to use a usb dvd rom with it.

In my case, I believe my sam440ep is good for the job until the x1000 system comes out, thats when I will really have to dig DEEP into my pockets, and find that extra change.

cheers

There is a driver for this card already.

This chip doesn't have accelerated 3D but does have hardware assist video playback, so it should be fine for users who want to have it for internet browsing, emailing, watching movies, playing some games, writing stuff and do basic coding, like me.

Indeed! And when/if you need more 3D power just plug a modern video card on pci express!

@ikir

And now that we have MB with onboard gfx chips and able to use algo PCI/PCIe ones, wouldnt' it be cool to be able to use both at the same time? Being able to choose which screens to open in each gfx card and have two monitors. Maybe having Tunenet or AmigaAMP in one with fullscreen plugins running and working in the other monitor

It would be cool, but OpenCL would be enough for now! So we could let programs use one GPU for computing like a CPU, and the other just do 2D/3D.

@TheDaddy

It has the same size of Sam Flex then it "must" fit in your case

Btw, any news about it (the case)? When you'll show us the complete project?
