AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Team and Program

Read more...

You may have read in various interviews that AmigaOS 4.1 has been booting to Workbench on the AmigaOne X1000 hardware for quite some time. We can also confirm that additional Nemo prototypes have been supplied to several OS4 developers to allow them to complete the necessary onboard hardware drivers (SATA, Ethernet and HD sound, USB is already mostly working). Meanwhile a revision 2 version of the Nemo motherboard is being finalised and to ensure we have the widest possible testing we are making 100 Rev 2 motherboards available to Beta testers under a special discount program.

We have received many request from Amigans who wish to join the Beta Test team and these will be processed by Hyperion-Entertainment who are coordinating the Beta Test program in conjunction with A-EON Technology.

@thread

I can understand the uncertainty and doubt regarding this whole thing, but it really serves no purpose bringing up past events and negativity, before something has taken place.

I guess it's all about taking a chance and having a bit of 'faith' in people you know have delivered products and quality products at that, in the past. Even if later than planned.

I would certainly love to be part of the beta testing program, if I got the chance - because it means something to me and is something I would like to invest my spare time in, while I'm alive! haha.

Well, it'll always be about personal preference at the end of the day...

No point arguing about it. You either agree with it, or you don't.

Steve

I am with you, by all means. I applied for this betatesting at first sight, without any hesitating. Call me stupid, call me ignorant, call me anything you like, but I have lots of faith in Hyperion et al.

@DaveP
It might be sunday but you indeed are investing a lot in this thread (not only here but at Amigans too) your sunday spare time gone to waste for such effort instead of resting (work, tomorrow,remember?)...relax....just a little...you'll perform better tomorrow

@Kronos
It's a "pre-whatever" but no scheme (the latter means the people won't receive anything and that Hyperion will run away with their money) but you are a scheme yourself, you actually come here and run away with our sanity all the time...

100 beta boards is a big step towards a final product.

Thus you, Ben Hermans and Hyperion must be defeated at all costs.

We call this the crab in a barrel syndrome were I live.
Tear down all those who would move ahead of the rest.

On a performance related note if the video performance can't match the Aros IMica Atom GMA
demo then the OS 4.x and MOS platforms could be in trouble.

Its a bank holiday here tomorrow, but yes I will be working. But as I happen to be helping run amigans thats my choice on how I spend my time. Personally, I don't find it an effort. Writing replies on here or elsewhere to defend myself against people whose reading comprehension appears at best haphazard takes a few minutes at a time. Certainly has nothing on my real job.

But I guess the purpose is to make some kind of "dig" at me until I blow up in irritation at the hints that you want me to shut up expressed through a bit of what PZ Myers describes as "concern trolling" (entertaining stuff indeed).

I'll just pretend you mean it in a loving, affectionate way as if you are my big brother. Thanks bruv! xxxx

I was jokingly suggesting to cheer up a little, I think that in all this you are seeing too much...

@Kronos
Scheme is an ambiguos word (specially when used by you ) if you check the dictionary it has the following too: "A secret or devious plan"
Use "program" next time or something

@Dax

Really? So it would cheer you up if someone was hinting that you were lacking a bit in the life department? Or were somehow overdoing it?

I noticed Ben starting that particular meme and it being taken up by you and others (on amigans.net) even after I said it was a mite patronising.

OK, so I said something about the "quality" filter that Ben is applying to this list he is managing that you didn't want to hear. Well, in fact I said something and you read into it something I didn't remotely say but you are in good company there.

Any testing has to be properly managed, strategic and it has to be clear what is expected week or day by day from the board users. If its not managed properly then the managers only have themselves to blame if they fail to deploy resources correctly OR if they have over-inflated expectations of the testers or their ability to filter out flakes and moss gatherers.

How anyone reasonably sees that as wanting Hyperion or Trevor to fail is beyond me. Unless Ben or others recognise anything of him in my fictionalised conversations, which were deliberately absurd to make the points, I don't see why he or others got all het up.

If you are going to take the time to imply something about me, my personality or my life then any pre-requisite of cod psychology has to be to read your source material.

Consider that since I don't know you in person I would never seriously imply anything about you, or your life.
On the matter at hand I don't find anything strange in Aeon filtering out whomever they reckon won't help them, but in any case I wouldn't spend much time on the matter (and happened to jokingly suggest something along those same lines), you are of course free to continue to do whatever you want

Just for the record, there *already* are working drivers for the X1000 onboard SATA and IDE ports.

I got a board in order to finalize those drivers, which I "blind"-made with just the chip specs, and remote-tested by the Frieden brothers on the 1st board available.

The screenshots which are available on the A-EON website were made using those drivers, even though OS4 on X1000 can also use the other existing drivers for SiI311x, SiI0680 etc. SATA/PATA/SCSI PCI boards. Those have been tested and work just fine.

There even is a driver for the onboard CompactFlash port, but this one doesn't really fly yet.

Regards,

Thats good news about the onboard SATA Stéphane, thanks for sharing
What good is the onboard Compact Flash port, when the board is in the shown tower?

@Troels

Not removable, the faster CF cards make nice small hard drives. I'm sure users will think of many possible uses for such a device. New A1200's can have one installed to boot from instead of a real HD, no moving parts.

See here you could have said so many clever things, instead you just keep spreading your happy thoughts as usual. Did the thought of saying something remotely optimistic ever cross your mind? - like fx. "yeah those were bad times, lets hope for a better future"

It's you that seems unable to let the past be the past

"he who first brings up the past, will never dare the future"

When can we expect an answer for our applications? Is there gonna be an answer even if application will be declined?
