Software News   Software News : MorphOS 2.5 released: eMac Support and Special Celebratory Price!
posted by guruman on 3-Jun-2010 23:56:45 (9156 reads)
The MorphOS development team is proud to announce the public release of MorphOS 2.5, the fifth new OS version since the debut of MorphOS 2.0 in the same month two years ago. MorphOS 2.5 finally adds the Apple eMac to its list of officially supported platforms. In addition to the extended hardware support, existing users will benefit from various bug fixes and a few new features. For an overview of the included changes, please read our release notes.

We strongly urge owners of eMac computers to carefully read our installation and troubleshoot guides before they attempt to install MorphOS for the first time. Existing users can upgrade via the familiar procedure but are encouraged to read the guides as well. MorphOS 2.5 is available for download in our files section.

In anticipation of the 2nd anniversary of the release of MorphOS 2.0 later this month, you are now able to purchase a MorphOS keyfile at the special celebratory price of 111,11 EUR (includ. 19% VAT), the same price that was available to the very first buyers of version 2 of MorphOS during our introductory phase in 2008.

Nice with a new update. What i like is that you can see what changes have been made on every part. Not just what parts are updated.

+2 to MorphOS team.

One is for added hardware, second for the update alone.

I wish I could benefit from it but my Mini is thrashed so I gotta first sort this out with Apple service next week. Then the update.

Things go quickly around MorphOS btw. Or maybe - just the time passes by?

Alas - when is promotion time over?? Nothing on the site...

What kind of nerds are they at Slashdot if they only accept the latest and fastest and cheapest tech? That IMO does disqualify them as nerds, because that is the criteria of the common consumer.

MOS - AmigaOS4 will not attract "non" amigans.
It needs non popular hardware and lacks tons of software.
Also, hardware is extremely expensive.
Maybe AROS which runs on their "hard" could have a minimal chance.
But it's unlikely to happen cause it can't offer better things than Linux
or Windows. Except one thing. Surely you don't need a cycles stealing
antiVirus.

It's been ages since Slashdot was 'News for nerds, stuff that matters', it's a dreary cess pit of self loving linux fanbois, who think they're L337 (or something) because they running Ubuntu, etc etc. I can't be bothered to go on to be honest.

Oh, and MorphOS and AOS4.1 both do things better than Linux, I'm not saying they're better in total. Actually, yes, yes I am, for me anyway.

Well, it offers low footprint and leaves almost free the resources of the machine.

It is Amiga-Like, so it offers you the benefit you can control almost any aspect of the Operating System and not being controlled by the OS itself.

It runs smooth even on processors with low horse-speed..

I saw a comment on OSNews from a guy who go astonished AROS could run 3 DVD quality videos at the same time just being running on a little 1 core Intel Atom processor, rather than a powerful dual core processor, powered by a simple graphic processor engine embedded into the Intel Chipset (no Dreadnaught Class & Expensive Killer Graphic Cards inside)

Slashdot is what it is. Considering the nature of that MorphOS 'news' item I'm only surprised that it was accepted at all and that it didn't attract even harsher derogatory comments. In all honesty, why would anyone advocate a niche, closed source operating system to the general computing public? If that crowd are happy with Windows, Linux, MacOS or whatever then good for them. Only those whose needs aren't being met by mainstream offerings would even consider looking askance at MorphOS, AmigaOS, RiscOS et al.

YouTube broke full-screen mode. Fab's fix script wasn't where the readme said it would be. Any hints?

From the OWB 1.8 readme:

- Youtube broke the "fullscreen" mode just before this release. I supplied an userscript
in Scripts/ to fix it: go to windows->scripts and add Scripts/Youtube_Fullscreen_Fix.js.
Once it's effective, fullscreen mode will use overlay (i.e much faster).

Is missing?
