Software News   Software News : FFmpeg 0.6 released for AmigaOS 4
   posted by MickJT on 8-Jul-2010 13:34:22 (6026 reads)
June 15th saw the completion and release of FFmpeg 0.6. Now it comes to the AmigaOS platform.

Since the last SVN build of FFmpeg for OS4, it now supports Deluxe Paint animations, CD Graphics, Apple Core Audio, Chinese AVS video, Adobe Filmstrip, Dolby TrueHD, Sony Wave64, Psygnosis YOP, VP8 video, WMA 9 Professional, Blu-Ray audio, DivX subtitles, the WebM file format, support for RTMP streams and much more.

It comes in both a Generic PPC and Altivec version (supplied as a .gpatch file).

It should, with some luck, work on OS4.0.

Also included is FFplay, a video player similar to MPlayer, supporting all the formats and codecs of FFmpeg, but will likely require OS4.1 Update 1 or better for the SDL library it is built with, and a fast CPU.

x264 encoding is broken and has bad quality, but has been included anyway. It may work properly on machines with Altivec support. This is yet to be tested.

ffmpeg 0.6 and libx264 revision 100 have incompatible default settings. Due to this, .ffpreset files can be used and are included. libx264 encoding was not available in the previous OS4 port. No functionality has been lost.

You can download it from OS4Depot.

@bernd_afa

I havent tried to compile ffmpeg so I dont know. But it should build out of the box.

For decent cross compiler for MorphOS, I dont know. You can always build one yourself but I dont remember what options you had to specify at configure.

Get your SDK from here. It works with cross compilers, you just have to build cross compiler yourself.

but this need a working MOS system to unpack because its a installer and pak file.
is there no version here that can unpack without MOS System ?

at least for OS4 there is with the zero hero page a docu how get OS4 sdk working on a X86 system, but configure work only on very small programms with that well on my system

maybe its possible to release a small linux that can run in vmware and so can compile MOS OS4 and AROS programs ?

68k compiler i can build later on that Linux system

bulding compiler for MOS or OS4 is not easy, because they are not support in offical GCC source

@bernd

Why do you want to compile it for MorphOS anyway? I maintain it, since i use it for both mplayer and owb video stuff. In fact, there's only one "major" change: the relevant bits for altivec runtime detection, and other small changes to avoid crashing when running it on a non-altivec system.

About the SDK, you don't need a MorphOS system to unpack it. It's XZ format.

I want try compile maybe in some case work better as in ixemul and it help to enhance ixemul.

I try to compile when i have time DDD debugger frontend, so i can see and compare what happen on OS4 or MOS SDK.
