hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : The Battle for Wesnot 1.8.3 available for AmigaOS4
   posted by afxgroup on 17-Jul-2010 16:43:44 (5672 reads)

The Battle for Wesnoth is available to download

What is Battle for Wesnoth?

The Battle for Wesnoth is a turn-based strategy game with a fantasy theme.
Build up a great army, gradually turning raw recruits into hardened veterans. In later games, recall your toughest warriors and form a deadly host against whom none can stand! Choose units from a large pool of specialists, and hand-pick a force with the right strengths to fight well on different terrains against all manner of opposition.
Wesnoth has many different sagas waiting to be played out. Fight to regain the throne of Wesnoth, of which you are the legitimate heir... step into the boots of a young officer sent to guard a not-so-sleepy frontier outpost... vanquish a horde of undead warriors unleashed by a foul necromancer, who also happens to have taken your brother hostage... guide a band of elvish survivors in an epic quest to find a new home.
200+ unit types. 16 races. 6 major factions. Hundreds of years of history. The world of Wesnoth is absolutely huge and limited only by your creativity - make your own custom units, compose your own maps, and write your own scenarios or even full-blown campaigns. You can also challenge up to 8 friends - or strangers - and fight in epic multi-player fantasy battles.

Features

* Build up a formidable fighting force, starting from a single leader and a small amount of gold.
* Over 200 unit types in six major factions, all with distinctive abilities, weapons and spells.
* Experienced units gain powerful new abilities as they advance.
* Several multi-player options available, including internet play.
* Scores of different custom-designed maps, and unlimited random maps.
* Hundreds of campaign scenarios available for download via a simple in-game procedure.

I will try again tonight, but hopefully not the same problem occurs.

Cheers

@ Brandon Lee

Have you considered upgrading your Operating System then?

:)

There is software emerging that wont run on OS4.0, and will continue to do so.

Cheers

P.S. Didnt get time to download data files again, may let the computer run tonight, I only have ADSL 1.

Cheers

@Gebrochen

It's not really a matter of consideration. If I could, I'd have done that long ago, like I did in the past.
I'm currently 50% unemployed, so money is "a bit" tight.
And I always fear my A1 won't last me enough to justify the investment, even if I could.

So, basically, what I can do now is look at said software. ;((((

Thanks for the port but...

There is something wrong with it here. i just tested it on a friends Sam and it crashes straight away!

I get this in rhe CLi:
Battle for Wesnoth v1.8.3
Started on Sun Jul 25 12:25:37 2010

Automatically found a possible data directory at /Work2/Games/Strategy/Wesnoth
returning file "/Work2/Games/Strategy/Wesnoth//Work2/Games/Strategy/Wesnoth/fonts"

Data directory: /Work2/Games/Strategy/Wesnoth
User configuration directory: /progdir/.wesnoth1.8

Checking video mode: 1024x768x32...
setting mode to 1024x768x32
WML exception:
User message: Widget definition 'horizontal_scrollbar' doesn't contain the definition for
'default'.
Dev message: Condition 'control_definition[definition_type].find("default") !=
control_definition[definition_type].end()' failed at gui/widgets/settings.cpp:411 in
function 'load_definitions'.

it crashes after with an ISI showing the code did something wrong as this looks like an assert where it should exit immediately!

I checked all files. The main and data are as they should be, Do new SDL or SOBJECTS need to be installed to the system? The instructions don't say so. They say to extract the main and data archives to one place and that's it. Not here!

i'm 100% sure that you (both) haven't downloaded the package entirely..
redownload the data files and try again (maybe not with OWB since you never know when it will end..)

I just did a test that confirms it is fine. I extracted everything to RAM. I tried running it and it was fine. I then ComparedDirs with the HD. All files were reported as fine.

But that Linux path above just looks wrong on AmigaOS. No wonder it breaks!

I also wondered why the two files weren't conbined. Since on same server and would simplfy it.
