Hardware News   Hardware News : A-EON Rev 2 "Nemo" Update
   posted by ssolie on 21-Jul-2010 18:36:32 (8141 reads)
London, 20th July 2010

We are pleased to announce that we have finalised the design of the revision 2 "Nemo" motherboard. Following an extensive testing programme, as well as implementing a number of minor hardware fixes, we have opted to specify an upgrade to the "Xena" XMOS subsystem to provide greater functionality and performance.

The revision 2 standard will be the version shipping under the AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Programme. With the design finalised, Hyperion Entertainment will soon be sending out the Beta Test information pack to everyone who registered their interest in joining the AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test programme.

In other good news, the Hyperion Entertainment software developers have made excellent progress since the AmigaOne X1000's public debut at the Vintage Computer Festival in June, and AmigaOS4 is now running stably at the fastest CPU speeds. Two AmigaOne X1000 machines will be on display at the "Amiga Event 2010" in Essen on the 24th July, demonstrating the latest developments.

@BigD

I had to use a english to ebonics translator(I'm not from California we don't have any Ebonics courses here.). It was more the point of people making a big deal over the differences between UK English and US English.

P.S. I mangle the english language fine without the help of ebonics anyway.

All in all, logic dictates that "program" is a lot more favorable than any other made-up alternative.

Or you could just have said - 'sorry I was wrong as I didn't notice that it was the correct English spelling which is where the post originated from'.

It would have saved you 'bandwidth'.

@ShadowSun

Is "disc" used universally in British English? Personally, I use disk when referring to magnetic media and disc when referring to optical media.

Re: English orthography, I work for a British firm. All official correspondence is written in British English; however, employees use native or local variations for all informal communication. Still, quite a bit of localization takes place when a business unit is located in a single region.

Is this now using an active cooling solution? Or is this a solid core with small fins?

Is the mailing list working for everyone else? I haven't gotten an email since the AmigaKit announcement. I have just 'signed up' with the same email address. It didn't tell me I was already registered.

Well, this all explains the improvements to the Xena module: by revising the board traces to adopt American spelling, two bytes were saved, freeing up 16 traces which were used to increase the overall connectivity. Or not.

Probably, because that dip switch block isn't new :) In fact, this photo looks exactly like the board shown at VCF --- which isn't such a big surprise, seeing as the rev2 design has been finished, but nobody said anything about actually having produced a rev2 board.

(And on a rev2 board, I'd expect to see the pads for the lane switches, which are visible in the background, populated. Without them, the second PCIe-16x slot is going to be rather useless; Not sure about the first one...)

Trevor mentioned it in his speech, and referred to it several times.

Listening to the VCF speech again, he mentions "we are going to wait for those to come in" with respect to rev2 boards. To me that says pretty clearly that no boards had been produced at that point, and seeing as the very news item we are discussing still talks about having a design, but not about having a production run, I see no indication that there has been a production run yet.

In fact, Trevor posted on Amiga.org to correct a news item, stating that the boards being shown in Essen are rev. 1, so you're probably correct.

Don't forget Canada. Colour is the correct spelling... ahem.

Yes, and as a fellow Canadian, that was taught the British English way of spelling various words, I agree with colour vs. color, humour vs. humor, favour vs. favor, etc., etc., BUT all my teachers must have decided to skip "programme", because I've NEVER personally used it spelled any way other than "program".

Um, but I said when I loooked at the display Mobo in its acrylic case, Oh look, rev 2.

And its said you dont buy stull till Rev 3. Well, Hyperion got Rev 1 to get teh OS working, Betas are getting Rev 2 to bug fix software and hardware and offer possible minimum alterations, improvements.

Rev 3 goes on sale. And I hope they hit the Christmas deadline, bcause in the UK at least, with what the Gov is doing, Its a Deadline.

VAT=15%
VAT=17.5%
VAT=15%
VAT=17.5%
VAT=20%

Oh boy, am I glad I wrote the code with VAT as a variable so I didnt have to recompile each time.

@thread

Hi guys,

I just returned from the Event in Essen / Germany.

It was big fun !!!

I talked to the A-EON people.

They mentioned that the REV.2 Board is the one for the beta-testers
and customers too.

It´s design has been finished but the have to do a first production run of five boards.
If these boards are 100% then the go into mass-production.

One unique new info:

The X-MOS chip on the REV.2 Board is going to be DUAL-CORE.

I got the information from Trevor himself.
