Events   Events : A message to all Amigans by an old friend
   posted by AmigaBlitter on 22-Oct-2010 10:07:02 (8008 reads)
Greetings, Amigans! The years I spent with the Amiga are among the most memorable of my life. There was the exhilaration of creating visual effects which had never been seen on a computer screen before. There was the luxury of realistic sound which was far beyond the clicks and beeps of previous computers. There was enough speed to allow fluid animation. But the strongest part of the Amiga experience was the community of users and developers who gravitated toward this remarkable device. Visionaries all, they were an exciting group to be a part of. While other computers were mere appliances, the Amiga fired the imaginations of its owners. I hope that the new generation of Amigans can carry on that tradition.

--- Jim Sachs

Jim would have liked to be attended to Amiwest, but he's extremely busy in building a house: which house? This picture should recall in mind old memories:

I will attach the actual picture of the under construction building later.

Jim also said:

"If any of the attendees will be traveling through the Pacific Northwest on
> their way to or from the conference, they are welcome to stop by and see my
> construction project. We are in Ashland, Oregon, right on Interstate 5.
> Just have them email me."

Thank you Jim for your Greetings. Hope to see you next year at Amiwest.

hi Jim , Defenders of the crown is close to my heart and so is your Disney work (on and off Amiga) aswell :) (odd that no one else mentioned that...)

if you ever attended AmiWest or simmilar community events then i am sure a lot of people would go there just to shake your hand and hear your stories about the golden age :)

Saucer Attack was the BEST!
I bought it the day I saw it in a Compute!'s Gazette !
And I was living in Japan at the time...
Thanks for all your great work and DOTC Jim!

Aaah, what lovely memories! Seeing pictures of a A500 with screenshots of Defender of the crown in the former GDR mayde me wanting an Amiga whatever the cost! Some years later including movement with my parents and my brother to the FRG and some hard holiday jobs the time has come! And Defender of the crown was one of the first if not t h e first games I played on my Amiga!

But one question: From which game is the screenshot next to the first building picture of this thread?

Ciao Jim...

I always apprecciated your artwork, and I also know that in the first times you drawn pictures for videogames on early Amiga 1000 systems with alpha-version paint software, and that you were almost forced to drawn literally by clicking pixel by pixel, because there were no complete painting tools in the software...

I also know you created animations of DOTC by creating a sort of your-own cell-animation system and working in joint-team with the coders of cinemaware that made for you a sort of primitive animation editing tool, before any similar Amiga anim software were created.

WOW! when I read that, I got astonished...

And you also contributed in realizing Brilliance software.

Your work really contributed in making the Amiga a great platform.

Sure you got all my respect.

I hope to see in the future a Serene Screen Aquarium™ version for Amiga made by yourself...

The clone versions we have of your aquarium simulator animated screensaver are all suc*ing!

(and for those who ignore what SereneScreen Aquarium is, here follows the link to the homesite:

@Manu!

LOL!

That's a funny looking crow. But I'm more suspicious about the hand. How is it meant to be defending the crow if he is hiding behind it?

Nice work.

Wow - nice to have comment from such a talent. Your work has never been anything less than impressive.

Would be nice to have something here for you to come back to but at the moment it is very much a work in progress.

Best of luck with your new build.

@Jim Sachs,

I had the pleasure of meeting you at a user group meeting in Riverside, Calif. many years ago. You were promoting Brilliance, which was not released yet and entertained the group with your Lagoon picture, (which was not finished at that time) and a funny animation that showed yourself and an animated crow which you interacted with. Great user meeting from the "Good-Ole-Days" of Amiga.

Hope you can attend next year's AmiWest Show, and I would love to visit your new home some time in the future (retired custom home designer & contractor & Director of Building & Safety/Building Official).
