Hardware News   Hardware News : Genesi release Efika MX Linux netbook
   posted by -Sam- on 16-Mar-2011 13:40:28 (8395 reads)
I know it's not anything to do with the Amiga directly but Genesi and the Efika brand name may interest some people here.

It'a £105 netbook based on the Cortex A8 CPU with a 3D GPU of unknown type. It runs Linux and at £105 it is a very low cost netbook.

The Aspire makes a great little Aros machine ... But Acer doesn't support Aros like Genesi does.

I don't see what the issue with posting news about this is, if the intention is to run AROS then that's still Amiga-based news. Besides, as pointed out elsewhere, the company behind it have a long-associated (and some would say chequered) history with all things Amiga so there is some relevance, even if they are/were diversifying away from the Amiga-esque platform(s).

Good luck to Genesi with the new product.

Rude!

EDIT typos - it's early!

More than if it's Amiga related, I would ask if its "news" related.

All we have here is unsold Efika MX (last year) stuff getting a price cut.
Don't get me wrong, I wish Genesi good luck with this maneuver they're making to get rid of the things, but alas...

I'd rather read about a computer capable of running AROS, created by Genesi which created/supported the Pegasos/MorphOS in the past, that Discreet's latest "project", or "offer to buy Aladdin that will be available for xxx, or be refound,...".

One is a shipping product. The other one is just words...

You conservative!
I am for the liberalization of putting stuff in other people mouths, it should be allowed everywhere - outside the bedroom, so anyone can freely put something in his or her mouth and vice versa e.g. for example, when you walk in the park.

@nimrod
:)) And putting stuff to mounths with words "only amiga make it possible" (and you should have boing-ball cap when do that in the park). Later in newspapers: "watchout ! new boing ball follower putting stuff to the mounth , even if you just walk in the park !"

@Leo
Sure, info about Genesi better than DisctreFx newses. They for sure do many good things. I right now even type that from peg2, which in some areas even a bit better than sam460 for today (bigger l2 cache, can connect many pci devices). As far as i remembler , they even thinking about making pegasos3 , and someone start to collect some money for , but still nothing.

I think they got ####ed at PowerPC roadmap and abondoned it. From a business stand point moving to ARM is very sane. Look at the prices. There's far much more love in developer circles for ARM and Windows 8 for ARM is comming. Don't expect Pegasos 3.

£105 would be a good price, however I think $199 is more like £125. Was lucky to get my end of line aspire one a150 a couple of years ago for £130.

If Genesi can get their next generation EFIKA-MX (i.mx.53) close to $50 USD OEM costs, I think they a hot product to license out to OEMs. I know Barry perked up when I was telling him of what Genesi was attempting in cost reductions and capability improvements.

That's the nettop, not the netbook.

Maybe because earlier they have had only prices for Nettop instead of netbook which is news...

But nice to see how tolerant "OS4 news are allways trolled" Amigan inquisition team is once again.
