News   News : X1000 Rev 2 board in production
   posted by OldAmigan on 18-Mar-2011 21:51:02 (25222 reads)
London, 18th March 2011

With the production of AmigaOne X1000 Beta test boards in progress, A-EON technology is pleased to release schematics of the final revision 2 Nemo motherboard layout. In true "Amiga tradition" the lead designers have added their signatures to the Nemo motherboard. We are also pleased to reveal details of the upgraded XENA subsystem featuring a 500MHz, dual-core XS1-L2 XMOS chip. Please check out the latest images of the revision 2 Nemo and XENA schematics in the Media gallery on the A-EON Technology website.

Apart from that I think it has nice modern looking graphics. I think it looks good for an Amiga site and I've see nmuch worse!

Saying that "i see much worse, so let's make a bit better, but still worse site" its bad idea for sure. And what mean "amiga site" ? Site its site, does not matter amiga or not. If site bad looking, its bad looking, and not matter of content.

Slash are right: commercical company (even small one) should have normal and proffesional looking site. That one which a-eon have for now, its just "ok". But far from professional for sure.

Anyway, as far as i remember, Trevor say somethere that new site will coming after x1000 sales will starts.

I do not want to criticize, since I really like the X1000 project, and I understand the difficulties of doing something like this, but I agree with kas1e.

I guess A-EON site should be something with a clear and complete overview about the new computer, firstly for people who don't follow the Amiga world like us...
Something for the ex-amiga user who ears about the X1000 (and doesn't follow forums ecc...) and want to have professional and complete info about it, before considering to buy it...
A-EON site is nice, but the impression is about something for who already knows what the AmigaOne X1000 is...

Instead, I think it should give a complete and understandable overview even for the others, who may read about the new AmigaOne in a PC magazine and want to learn more...

In the end, the X1000 can be interesting for Amiga's fan, but even for the geek world...

@all

are we still on topic ??? Anyway, it is not worth discussing website, things have to be sorted once they start selling X1000. Lets say they come up with something like the riddle for launch, people/magazines will contact A-Eon and need infos, hope they are ready for it (not like last time)...

regards Gero

I don't think I've ever seen a thread here without someone complaining about something. We could be looking at a picture of the hottest woman on earth and someone would say "yeah, but she has nostrils.. I don't like nostrils".

Go Go AMIGA!

I'll be selling my Sam Flex when I get my hands on an X1000, just as I did when I sold my Micro A1 after I bought my Sam Flex.

but can trevor name some potential cool things thease chips can do in this computer that makes the x1000 special when its comparid to another machine ???.
i am allso locking forward to see the next "big step" in os 4.x evolution,

I see your point about professional sites, but I actually really like the aeon site! Its a fun novelty. I'm sick of slick formula websites..

Congrats to you! Exciting to see your dream come to reality.

To be frank, don't listen to ANYONE who says something is 100% bad or 100% good, because it is never true, so they are only telling you "half" of the story.

In XMOS chips case, they are very good at some things, and not useful for other things. But this is fine since even normal CPU chips are fast at some things, and slow at other things. And Gfx chips are fast at some things, and slow at other things.

No-one can tell you what the XMOS chips will *definitely* do, any more than someone in 1984 or 1985 could have told you what people would manage to make the Amiga chipset do which even their designers never imagined in many cases. XMOS chips are less revolutionary than Amiga chipset, but they have more flexibility, meaning it is hard to say, especially since you need to have some kind of plug-in card (probably 3rd-party) before you can really do anything with the XMOS chips. You will probably have to wait a year or more after the X1000 is released to find-out what people make the XMOS chip do.

Things the XMOS chip is good at:

* Super-low-latency (aka "real time") handling of I/O (Input/Output).

* Capable of having multiple threads running in parallel, with very low context-switching overheads.

* Reprogrammable.

Things the XMOS chip is NOT good at:

* It has an upper limit on the actual I/O bandwidth (which may prevent, for example, handling of high-res video, at least without some kind of Toaster-style add-in card to pre/post-process the data, perhaps using additional XMOS chips!).

* The XMOS chip also has very limited on-board memory, which typically shouldn't be needed by low-latency I/O anyway. Depending on how the chip is interfaced with this rest of the X1000 mobo, it may be possible to access the X1000's on-board memory.

I haven't had time to scrutinise how the XMOS chip interfaces with the X1000, perhaps someone with more time & experience could tell us what it will & won't be able to do?

Hello from Japan. Maybe you have heard of this site Moobunny. They X1000 and this project seems to attack Amigaworld website.
http://moobunny.dreamhosters.com/cgi/mbmessage.pl/amiga/188000.shtml

Some of the members are attacking it. The name and post it as a user authentication system looks lacking. Does anyone see this site before? Feud or available? Like below.

"click to register for updates"!?!?! seriously? i can't view the page without signing up for spam?!?
seriously you're joking right ?? only register if you want an email everytime there's a news report from A-Eon ELSE just read the info on the site.....click the Boing Ball where it says "CLICK"

maybe it is on purpose to discourage visitors right after they enter
the page is really badly designed in terms of usability. Having most important part - menu - in the bottom right corner is well lets say highly unusual and easy to overlook.

"Click to register for updates" is for sure first thing new visiter will check and i bet in many cases also the last one...

NESAssassin

As you are new here, and very welcome, I wish to tell you your moobunny post
is 'off topic'. It takes time to learn new rules.

My advice to you is,, don't go there. You may step in something that smells bad.

Glad to see you have not been hurt by the disasters.
