Software News   Software News : UAE gets Warp3D wrapper
posted by _Steve_ on 20-Jun-2003 22:29:20 (5800 reads)
QuarkTex is a Warp3D 4.0 - OpenGL wrapper for WinUAE.

Robert Konrad has just released his first version (0.1) of QuarkTex

Warning:
WinUAE and your Amiga application must run in full screen mode.
If you use a Radeon graphics board please update your drivers to Catalyst 3.4. Catalyst 3.2 can crash badly if you accidently start an application in windowed mode.
QuarkTex needs an OpenGL 1.2 compliant graphics board. Radeon or GeForce is suggested, everything else might blow up your computer.
Read the ReadMe.txt before using QuarkTex. You probably won't be able to use QuarkTex without reading the ReadMe file.
The current version is not thought to be used for development. Please wait for 0.2 or 0.3 to minimize the risc of writing programs which do not run on real Amigas.

You can download version 0.1 from Roberts site here

Don't think so, I wasn't really rude...

> I'm thankfull for everybody who helps me, doesn't matter who he is.

Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware that there are bugs in Warp3D. It's just that certain people are always bringing up things like this. Instead of telling you when they found a bug, they tell you "there is one, you're stupid"

Well, never mind...

BTW, the source code to the engine program is included in the Warp3D developer archive, so you don't really need to hack it to support 16 bit modes, just recompile it

I only browse the headlines at ANN these days, if you click the "Read More" you do so at your own peril!

The program uses W3D_SRC_ALPHA, W3D_ZERO as blendmode

Come to think of it, if the engine demo really used that blendmode (perfectly possible, it's quite dated), it would still come out transparent on the VIRGE since the only blendmode it supported was src_alpha, 1-src_alpha, and the driver implicitly converted everything to that mode - the alternatives would be to fail right away, which didn't really make any more sense, or to fall back to software rendering (which would almost be worth it on the virge).

I don't know if the engine demo still compiles. After we wrote MiniGL, we had some nicer demos...

I didn't read it because I never read ANN. If you've been there for some time, you will probably know why...

Normally I stay at amiga-news.de
But I'm looking around for QuarkTex discussions and the ANN discussion seems to be productive for now, so it's OK for me

I think I got an internal compiler error using StormC4 when trying to compile WarpTest, so I didn't even try Engine.
Which blending modes does the Permedia2 support?
I could include Virge and Permedia modes - in the long run you will end up using QuarkTex to develop your games

Oki, I understand now.
Those things make me feel a bit sad though
Many people take competition to serious.

Some lines in German, I fear, I'd write something wrong in English:
Ich finde, man sollte trotz aller Wiedrigkeiten an sämtliche Kommentare vorbehaltslos herangehen - das sich daraus ergebende Verhalten könnte einem auf lange Sicht einen nicht zu unterschätzenden Sympathiebonus einbringen.
Ich weiß aber auch sehr wohl, daß einem dies manche Leute mehr als schwer machen
Wobei ich jetzt wahrscheinlich alle Sympathie verspielt habe, weil ich wie ein Guru klinge

Normally, only SRC_ALPHA, ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA, but we found a way for limited support for ONE,ONE using some obscure apple blending mode, but it isn't really correct - it only works if the texture/fragment used doesn't have Alpha.

I think we used to compile it with SAS/C and StormC 4 beta (the non-GCC version). We've been using the same binary for ages now.

Well, we *do* have Voodoo's now

It's not about competition. What I find disgusting is the fact that some people always try to make you look bad in public. I never did that. I don't go around complaining about the bugs in cybppc.device, for example.

@Rogue & EntilZha:
Just got the first stupid comment at ANN.
Well, there were always fanatics.

At least you have my sympathies. I remember you from the 3DWorld mailing list and could witness your know how - although I am one of those mad Amiga x86 freaks
I took care of the 3DWorld back then.

See what I mean I'm staying away from there, and so my blood pressure stays low.

Hehe, well, I don't agree with folks that think that AmigaOS is ready to go to x86 yet. That time will come, but not now.

Yeah, right... Well, things got really quiet there recently; hopefully this is going to change soo

There is only one PPC system a little student like me can afford. And the Gamecube will have a hard time running OS4

3DWorld and PPCWorld were shut down. Don't thing H&P will resurrect them.

Yes, I was thinking of an OS4-3D-List at amiga.com

Just a forum or a mailing list?

I can't get to W3Dwrapper to work. I put the directory alib (containing the file Quarktex.alib) in the winuaedir and copied the warp3d.library to my system:libs

I'm using WinUAE 0.8.27 (tried with an older one too) with AOS3.9 and a Geforce 4 MX440.

When i try to run Engine (or some other program) they just crash :/

Anyone who can help me?
