@vox

As much as I appreciate the effort involved, I'm not a fan of that case. The aluminum makes it look too much like lab equipment or a scale in a grocery store. The exact same shape in plastic (cream, tan or gray) would be much better IMHO. Would probably also be cheaper as well.

Well, it's just wait and see if it sells good and then we will know if it was a good decision or not. I know what I think will happen but just wait and see.

http://loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/x500_plus_is_completely_made.htm says it is made 100% from brushed aluminium. I think that source is rathereliable...

Can that concept case actually be purchased? That would make an awesome NG amiga system in my opinion.

And I'm still waiting anyone to justify this whole Acube promotion and the "500" moniker.

It hasn`t much to do with Amiga 500 as we know it.

Its just rebrand of SAM boards now when Hyperion has rights to AmigaOne name
to make it alligned with coming AmigaOne X1000 as lower end model (I know price doesn`t say that, but that is the PowerPC pricing)

Loriano`s case is stil at prottype stage amd will bring what users demand:
ability to put Natami, SAM 440/460 or AROS ITX board to A500 look a like case

Its nothing much to do with the machine, or this announcement that ACube have licensed the AmigaOne brand, but a question has just occurred to me.

Is the Sam460ex board still green? The 440s were red, but all the 460s I've ever seen have been green. Will this change now that the AmigaOne branding has been extended?

It's good to see new Amigas are still being produced, but I think if sales are what they are looking for then unless they live under a rock, they will know that a new Amiga would sell in droves if it came in an all-in-one keyboard style case.

Perhaps if they did this, the A1-500 would have got a better reception.

Also... as unrealistic/impossible it may be at the moment, prices need to come down at some point. People like me are interested, but simply cannot afford £1000 for a computer.

Maybe a low-end model would be a good idea, low-spec but less expensive, and in a keyboard case.

Though now they have used the 500 model, I don't know what they would be able to call it.

@Reptile

That is exactly my thoughts too. The second chanse that they got is to release an A500+ maybe, make the Fantasy case (which I think is gorgeous) and put a modified Sam 460 in it but with a Radeon 4xxx chip soldered on it (don't know if it would fit in the case otherwise).

I would buy it at the current price.

For those who wants and can afford a cool tower the X1000 is available so this doesn't need to be in a tower.

They could also have two A500 models, I guess that would work. Call it A500 Classic then or whatever.

If I had more money I would make the damn Fantasy case myself, that's how bad I want it.

Right. You have the idea. That would have made Sense to have the "500" a desktop or wedge case and the "1000" the high end tower. But when we talk of Amiga we dont talk of "sense" lulz..

This is the reason even die hard fanboys got ####ed off at the silly marketing campaign so anti climactic.

We dont need new models, we dont need any more platforms to port to.

WE NEED SOFTWARE

i'd love ANYONE to help me understand WTF this has to do with an Amiga 500?

As far as I am concerned it has nothing to do with an A500. They should have called it AmigaOne 460 instead. I can see the connection there.

For the record, I am one who actually likes the Samsonite luggage looking case.

And that's the whole issue here. If they make hardware that half of the current userbase doesn't like and won't buy, who're going to write the software?

We have a new Amiga!

The hardware is nice, it is only 3 times more expensive than nettop Atom.

This is a good result, if we consider that this is a hardware produced for hobbyists, in small quantities.

Half of the userbase wants too much.

Obviously, that will explain why most A1200 users took the all in one cases apart and bought tower systems and separate keyboards then.

Why go backwards to systems that are difficult to update or add peripherals to ?
