Software News   Software News : AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4
posted by zerohero on 18-Oct-2011 21:56:15 (10772 reads)
Text from Hyperion Entertainment Blog:

Quote:

Just a quick note to say the development and testing teams are working on AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 right now.

Several issues identified in Update 3 and earlier are being addressed thanks to direct customer feedback via Hyperion's support forum. A huge thanks to all those that have taken the time to register and post your bug reports! AmigaOS can only get better with direct customer feedback so keep it coming.

Along with the usual assortment of bug fixes, there may well be a surprise or two as well.

I would add: more localization please!
Arabic, Persian and Hebrew languages they go together.

I will support this initiative financially as much as possible.

As soon as I read Steven's "Because I feel like it" I laughed. It was humour folks, humour.

Maybe this is a Canadian thing, that doesn't translate well to other countries?

Since Steve came along things have been MUCH improved with Hyperion. However, statements like "Because i feel like it " are somewhat arrogant especially for the community rep for the company..

I read that comment as a "funny". I suppose how you read those words has to do with where and how you were raised. I really doubt ssolie was being nasty, but it might have been better to not say them.

I would think though most companies offer cheaper upgrade pricing if your purchase is within 90 days of your original purchase. That would be nice of them if they feel 4.2 is coming within next 90 days, to offer 4.1 at reduced price and if you want 4.2 later, and it comes up within 90 days, you get a special price or something.

I like it! I like it! Will it ever come to a computer near you? I don't know.

+1 This is an UPDATE not a new OS version. I only want to download a small package to update my system, not an entire CDs worth of files. Some of us are limited by BT to 512kbps, so the smaller the download the better.

Again i am sure both could be possible dont you think??
And even as a ISO it would not take that long even with your connection considering that OS4 dosent even use anywhere near a full cd.

@templario

Sound drivers for the SAM 460 were released on OS4Depot, and according to the site, on 15 August 2011. I should know I have sound now.

Excellent news!

And seriously, there must be some cultural difference showing here, in the interpretation of ssolie's post. Lighten up, people! Please?

@kas1e

Come on mate take a break, when ssolie say "me like" he refer only about the announcement and only this (aka he felt like to write this post on the blog), not that he only did the update 4 or somethings similar ..

Don't try to investigate/speculate in every single word one can type in a forum

If you want to support hyperion, you buy 4.1 and then 4.2 when it comes for sale.

Yeah, i'm going to pay $300 for a hobby OS that makes a lot of sense good advice.

Well it is a hobby and if you like it you spend money on it.

I once bought a used bicycle, purely for hobby. It costed about €450. I also needed protection gear and stuff: About €150.

Then I realized it needed a new front fork and some other stuff, so I was cheap and got it a new fork for only $370 (whereas a proper one would cost €900). Shortly after the rear damper, which was old, broke and I had to get a new one. That was a real bargin, only €170.

Two years later I realized I had outgrown the bike and had to get a new one. It was also fairly cheap, only €1500, but a proper one. Fortunately nothing major has broken on that one yet :)

To transport this thing I also needed a car: Another €1400 (really cheap crap car).

So on that hobby I've spent €4040 plus all the travel expenses like gas, food, over night stays at various places. This is only the last 3 years.

It is more money than I've ever spent in total on Amiga over 20 years. So naturally I will spend my money on all OS4.x versions and the X1000 as well, because it's my hobby. Then my two hobbies should be on par

Here are my reasons since you absolutely must know: 1. To demonstrate that progress is being made and AmigaOS 4.1 is not being abandoned. 2. To encourage more people to report bugs and problems via the official support forum. 3. Because I felt like it.

Thanks OS 4.1 is not abandoned - until replaced with 4.2

And its great to see that reported bugs actualy get fixed

Note that last statement can cause havoc combined with Mr. Burns avatar

Maybe just "eeexcellent"

Since there seems will be update 5 (probably for X1000) that might be considered as update of update to an update ... Its nice things are rolling and team is working!
