Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : Hyperion launches official AmigaOS website
   posted by Petah on 22-Oct-2011 7:02:45 (9155 reads)
In a surprising yet often requested plead for action, Hyperion Entertainment has officially launched an AmigaOS website found at www.amigaos.net. The site, which currently promotes the operating system and some of its many features, also sports screen shots, information about the Amiga range of computers, key AmigaOS applications and the AmigaOS community at large.

Nice site! Really makes me feel to buy it : p

I like that Hyperion has integrated AMC but one serious question:
Is there interest by Hyperion to integrate AMC as kind of "Frontrow" in AmigaOS?

And i would like if you could add newer Screenshots.
Fell free to use one here (you don't need to ask for permissions ; ) -fair use)

Hi,

Thanks for the kind comments everyone, and the criticism of course. Indeed as many have suggested the current site is a base-line, its just the beginning. Pick a small number of apps per category, get it right, and move on. In regard to Swamp Defense, yes the full version only surfaced in the last 2-3 weeks, you can be sure it'll be included fairly shortly as it looks such a polished game am sure many will agree. :) Loved to play it myself, it does load, but cause I don't have h/w composition its unplayable at present.

RE: Update 3 in detail page. I knew you'd love that page man.

@all

Hope you all like my temporary avatar, had to change it from old-style amigaos.net.

Read more closely.

The Firefox code in Timberwolf is MPL, of course, because it needs to be. Timberwolf itself, on the other hand, quite clearly is not.

If you really believe Timberwolf to be released under an open source license, try getting the source.

@umisef

i would get the source required under the MPL, being an open and free software license.

i would get any original firefox code which has been untouched or modified. i would not get any new code that the new authors did not want to give.

the MPL is an open source license, Timberwolf will be distributed as per the MPL license, so Timberwolf can be called 'open source'.

if you disagree, take it up with Mozilla, as they wrote the license, and im just using the same wording and terms that they have in the MPL.

Now if only Timberwolf was released under the MPL license, that would be a sensible thing to say.

Unfortunately, Timberwolf instead is a proprietary, closed-source product incorporating MPL-licensed parts under the MPL's "Larger Works" provisions.

So
Quote:
Timberwolf will be distributed as per the MPL license

is patently untrue. The distribution of Timberwolf will satisfy the MPL license with regards to the MPL-licensed parts Timberwolf incorporates; Neither the original (as in, newly created) parts, nor Timberwolf as a whole, will be MPL-licensed.

If you believe otherwise, try to exercise your rights under section 3.2 of the MPL with regards to newly created source files.

(To illustrate the point --- Timberwolf is in the same boat, open-source wise, as Roadshow. Surely nobody would call Roadshow open source?)

@Derfs & umisef

I think you should put your MPL license blabla and debate elsewhere, the thread is about new amigaos website.

By the way, the site looks great. Missing some apps as already said but it will improve by time. Adding videos would be great as well.
The only big thing missing I think is about classic games emulation as every potential amigans wanting to come back on the platform would love to play their old favourites games.
So adding a page about UAE/RunInUAE with link to buy Cloanto AmigaForever package would be nice.

Anyway, GREAT!!

Glad to see an officia site with forum and all.three cheers.
looking at the software available on this site. I hope it means that page stream development is going to start again. The Os4 version never worked and hasn't been updated for a 5 years. I always felt I had wasted my money on it.
