software Classic   software Classic : Mr Beanbag! AGA released.
   posted by Toaks on 29-Dec-2011 15:28:02 (11373 reads)
The AGA game MrBeanbag! is now finished and released.

MrBeanbag! is released as βeta since there is still bugs/issues,but most likely they won't be fixed.

MrBeanbag! is a really fast paced Platformer/Jump'n Run game ala Sonic The Hedgehog and was meant to be a fully commercial title a few years back, the development cycle stagnated and the developers put the project on hold as they needed a break,luckily they picked up development again and released this beta to the community.

MrBeanbag! has 17 levels,great graphics and sound and it does feel like a final commerical product.

Great can't wait to play it.

This should also work with OS4 Classic, well at least the demo version did.

@akiko

Yes it does work on OS4 Classic, it also works flawless in RunInUae with Upd4.

@Toaks

What programing language is this game written in?

I guess game does not run on new Amiga computers because it does not support one or more of this timer.device, ahi and/or lowlevel.device.

Fake native AGA modes are available in AmigaOS4.X.

if you think about porting it then I guess porter duff support is the way to go.
To get alpha channel transparency and true colors.

@nutsaboutamiga

it is written entirely in 68k Assembler.
The game was written for classic Amiga's from day 1 and the authors had no nextgen or RTG Amiga's so thats why the game only works on AGA machines.

And no, i have no intentions of porting this to RTG even if i did get the source and a huge bounty.

porting Asm code is a lot of work and i rather work on other stuff :)

PS:i have nothing to do with MrBeanbag! , i am just a fan who posted all the MrBeanbag! news items on the Amiga forums since 2005 or so.

@Toaks

Graphics has commercial quality?!?
I think it's VERY simple, even for classic games. Especially the backgrounds.
Can't comment on sound, smoothness of animation and how it handles as I
have only seen the stills.

My Amiga situation is very bad. The A500 & A1200 are behind me and all the PIV+060 turbos etc are safely in a drawer waiting for a good tower. The XE is no help + its in repair but:

With this pc how could one transfer the game or other stuff to a very vanilla A1200 or 500? Both have extramemories etc dd:s, a hd-drive but the disk drive is the only one to get it to them now. (Or pcmcia?)
It would be too simple to shove in a memory card from a todays pc but not so easy?

Have linked these Amigas together so no moving for them.

Maybe a business Idea for someone to create an USB-external Amigadrive to a pc and write disks from these new releases?

I for the matter used to count to have 2000+ 3M very high quality (and expensive) dd:s and got a lot more from changing machines. Maybe three external drives lying around too, one is a hd that cost 700Fim at the times.. Maybe 3000 disks now at home. 10 empty even;)

Maybe someday I'll get an A1200 tower (got two mobos atm, one in tower and one dt) to get the Zorro in place again or an A4000“060 for the PIV and sell the A1200 remaining turbos away?

Not very good for games either but the transferring of games is quite impossible atm and for me it is not an option to play more with a pc + amiga emulator as it doesn't kick a.s with a kb or anything else really for games as You all know.

Thanks for the YouTube. Not for The collection. Maybe a lot of work but not SpeedBall3 for now or Giana Sisters2 etc. Treasure Island Dizzy, Sonic... How? Here is a question:

How is a simple game from our land getting so good response like Angry Birds? Have You even seen Flatout 2 or ProPilkki (OffCourse if You like to Pilkki=fishing from an icehole;)

I could name a hundred more. Our Amiga is going? Oh, I'll go and play some Angry Birds on my wifes telephone or play with the vacuum-robot as my phone is too sophisticated to these jobs to control a vacuum. hah.

I know Amigaguys could do better with tanx and gravityforce and deluxe galaga etc but are they gone now forever? Sigh.

By all means this is for a game developed in this time and age it sure is a milestone when you think about it, if they had gone with the publisher in the end it would have sold less than 100 copies even if had been the best game ever made on the Amiga.
I suggest you try the game before you you comment as there is more to it than some pictures like the 4way 1/4x1/4 scrolling at 50fps,mode7 style effects and big bosses etc.

i really wish more people would develop more games for the Amiga (classic or NG) , just look at Iphone games, 90% of em are rubbish quality and shallow but they sell insane amounts. (ofcourse there are some really kick ass games on iphone too but look at HUGO,Retro Pinball,Gummibear,crazy chicken are just a few i bought but there are so many more.

This game is way better than most of them rubbish iphone titles

@pr

funny how you mentioned FlatOut2, i know most of the Bugbear team and i worked with em on the PSP and SEGA RALLY, these days they work on a restart of Ridge Racer, i do like ridge racer but i really don't like how their new game seem to turn out as i rather they focused on FlatOut 3 and made their Ridge Racer game as a different name and left the RR name behind as it ain't really a RR game.

Not very funny but I'm all over paint now as some idiot put too much water in the mixture and painting the roof. Flatout is a cool game and for sure would try 3. 2 was so good. It is not weird. Usually many good stuff come from here too. 90% don't get released but a bit more should- At the golden Amigatimes when I was in Spain there was a real big disk package comming every month from here and I did the best that could to digitize with View GoldIV for screengrabs and others made music etc. A real productive time. I miss that. Getting it rolling again?

Now I could have time for DeluxePaint if any towers available. I did have the original Copy, Maybe the new music and put some graphics I can easilly ask from my cousing.

NHL is good too. (I wan't to beat the Swedes with Koivu, Selänne and Grandlund every time I see some yellow #### somewhere..;) Have a (not Giana Sister clone) real game but no programming skills.

If there is really comming a good AmigaOS4 quick for us I could try to see Rovio as some of these guys have owned an Amiga.

Not for joke. I do shares and understand the #### Hyperion has to handle. My A1 has been half a year on repair... Too much of a patience maybe?

AmigaFan from the start;)

Oh Jeah. Ask me or maybe better straight away for any advance. I can only ask in Finnish and I think these new guys know english better than me.

Don't take these too seriously but these are serious if needed good old talent.

I don't know how it works exactly on AmigaOS 4, however on AROS it's great. This is Icaros Desktop running Mr Beanbag in Janus-UAE 1.1, using AROS' kickstart replacement ROM (yes, that's all AROS here):

>now finished and released.

>MrBeanbag! is released as βeta since there is still bugs/issues

These two statements are contradictory, how can it be finished and yet beta? Why would it be a considered to be "finished" if the bugs are yet to be fixed?

@minuous

well, read all of it.
its finished and will never be completed as in, the last few bugs/issues be removed.
MrBeanbag! is complete but there are gfx artifacts and other issues that should've been improved but most likely never will.

Toaks, why are you so sure that Mr. Beanbag will never be completed? Amy never said anywhere online that she was never going to finish it, only that releasing the beta now should help motivate her to finish the full game.

And what makes you think the game would sell less than 100 copies if it were published properly? Amiga games sell a lot on eBay and I'm positive with the right marketing it could sell over 100 copies, especially if bundled with WinUAE or on a bootable CD which loads Aros and JUAE and boots directly into the game. There are plenty of options for bundling it into a playable format for more than just classic Amiga owners, and this game is far better than most independent platform games out there now.
