Know what? YOU ARE RIGHT! NOBODY has the right to ask politely (yeah: read again that post that you HATE) if some feature or hardware will be supported in the future. Even if that potential user just use an OS for HD video, image editing, 3D and videogames creation. The right thing to do es never ask (even politelly) for anything and simply say: all glory to the hypnotoad!

Thank you for your encouraging answers! I think with you attitude and these kind of posts, that you surely are gaining a lot of support for the project and making a very positive impact on new potential users. Cheers!

I don't think you were asking politely. You're trigger-happy with the caps lock key, and you make it sound as if no one uses nVidia or Intel graphics, and that support for all wireless chipsets should be expected. The tone of your post makes me think that even if AROS had 3D ATI drivers and supported all mainstream wireless chips, you'd be quick to complain that they're not as fast as the Windows drivers.

I've always politely answered to anyone politely asking if a feature will be added or not in the future. The upset tone of my answer may indicate you were doing something else. Probably I over-reacted but, as Neil remarked as well, your message didn't exactly feel like a information request, but much more like one of those free complaints we always read any time we post a message about AROS. Anyway, ATI chipsets might be supported in the future: it just depends on time, will and skill of people who work and will work on the project. We are perfectly aware of the fact that there are many ATI chipsets out there, and we'd be very happy if we already fully supported them. Unluckily, this hasn't been achieved yet. I might be quieter when answering, but 'essential', moreover written in capital letters, is not the best word to keep others calm.

Hi Trevor, it depends on the version you've got installed. You can upgrade from Icaros 1.4 to 1.4.1, but not from any 1.3.x or even former releases, to 1.4.1.

I hereby suggest to download the whole Icaros 1.4.1 package, extract the ISO file inside, burn it to a DVD and reinstall from scratch.

Meanwhile... in an alternative reality some of you don´t seem to want (based on your negative posts, not your adivinatory powers which I don´t seem to have) I would be very happy when ATI drivers came out, whatever the state, and just with that (even wireless drivers are also ESSENTIAL for me) I would try AROS and donate to whatever development for it that I find interesting.

This is what I did when the first version for the ATI drivers was just announced by Hans for OS4 some time ago, even they were in terrible state (obviously) and never asked about performance at all, as my posts here about it still show as a matter of proof ;)

You can state your opinion of course, but do you really mean bounties needs to have some beta version out before you consider donating ? Not many thinks of bounties that
way. I can assure you many bounties would still be undone then. Money is a motivator as easy as that. To put 20 €/$ in a bounty isn't THAT big loss. If another bounty gets going you can always move your money to that other bounty if the current stalls for too long . My apologies if I missunderstood you.

The easiest way to test AROS is running it on a virtual machine. You don't need wireless drivers for that. And for the millions of potential USERS, no way. Yes i theory but in reality people tend to want to have the ability to run software they're familiar with other wise they tinker with it for a while and then leave it.

The million new & old (AMIGA) users is now used to have software from the Windows/Linux world. We can be happy what we have on AROS right now but there's lots of more software that needs to be ported over.

I would say if Aros had ATI 3D drivers and more wireless drivers, hundreds of potential computer tinkerers would try AROS on their native hardware. Out of them we could see maybe 10 more users and 2 devs

On AMD vs NVIDIA, they are not sold 1:1 as of 2011.

AMD ended Q4 2011 with a 24.8 percent market share, growing 7.8 percent sequentially over Q3. On the other hand, Nvidia’s share dipped by 3.1 percent, from 16.1 percent to 15.7 sequentially. Intel’s growth also came to a halt. Chipzilla dropped from 60.4 to 59.1 percent.
