software OS4   software OS4 : New version of SabreMSN
   posted by Deniil715 on 22-Apr-2012 17:56:37 (4068 reads)
OnyxSoft has recently released a new version of Jahc's MSN chat client SabreMSN with the following changes:

- Fixed a number of memory leaks, especially one continuous leak.
- Added a status icon for oneself to make it easier to see what status I have.
- Made a setting to use or not the status icons for those who think they are
ugly.
- Improved the auto-Idle timeout such that it only sets you idle if you are
truly idle and not using mouse or keyboard for 10 minutes. Also unidle
automatically when sending a message.
- Made the height of the chat input text box adjustable.
- Put the button bar into a virtualgroup to let you scale down the window.
- Made the Quit requester look a bit nicer and accept keys.

@Deniil715

Found a little misbehaviour, if you open a new chat clicking on the "show chat" button, then you can't close this new window using the standard close gadget of the window, to close it you are forced to reclick again on the "show chat" button on the main window !

@Deniil715

Good to see an update to this quality program.

Is it possible to access Facebook messenger via SabreMSN?

I saw somewhere that you can now chat on Facebook via MSN. Wondering if it's worth setting up an MSN account again to use Sabre for this, most of my chat contacts use Facebook.

I use Pidgin for Facebook messenging on Ubuntu and works great, would be great to enjoy the same functionality on AmigaOS.

Yep maybe because when you click on "Show chat" button you just open a "blank" chat window, not a chat with a real user selected so maybe with certain tooltype's settings that window cannot be closed manually .. (this need to be investigated)

This is one of the more reason why i loved the old compact mode functionality, hope you can be able to re-enable it as soon as possible !

Still the fact that this is a real misbehaviour that need a fix

@gtmooya

I think Facebook uses a proprietary API which is quite expensive to get a license for. Unless it uses the MSN protocol to chat through, it would be just as difficult as adding any other chat client like ICQ or something I'm afraid. Sabre is no designed for that.

@samo79

Which shows how fragile the internals of Sabre unfortunately is. I would guess that this button works if you first select a user, then click Show Chat, otherwise it has no user to open a chat for, and there is no check for this. Will investigate. And the compact mode...

Yep it was already clear that SabreMSN (particularry the GUI interface) wasn't finished yet, so i'm not suprised to see that kind of issue around, all can be improved and extended with the time = i'm very happy that the code is on you hands

@Deniil715

Thanks, hoping it just works via the MSN protocol after you link the accounts. Will sign-up and see what happens. Pidgin is opensource, but looking on their website it mentions nothing about Facebook support. I guess the Ubunutu version's FB support might have been been funded by Canonical.
