New RadeonHD Series 7 Support
Cardiff, 3rd October 2012

A-EON Technology and HDRLab are pleased to announce that AmigaOS 4 now includes full support for AMD Radeon HD series 7 graphics cards.

Version 0.54 of the Radeon HD driver, which has been exclusively funded by and licensed to A-EON Technology, will be available for download from the A-EON Technology website in the near future. A-EON's Trevor Dickinson commented, “This is a major achievement for AmigaOS 4.1 which now supports graphics cards throughout the Radeon HD range, including the latest series 7 cards. We are especially proud to have funded this development and wish to congratulate Hans on his outstanding work.” Developer Hans de Ruiter added, “It was a long and at times difficult development, but I am extremely pleased that AmigaOS now supports the latest in graphic card technology.”

Does this mean that 3D works in games now? i.e. will Quake 3 or any other 3D games work in hardware or do we have to wait for some other update from Hyperion as it seems to suggest from the announcement.

I have to say I haven't quite understood 3D support on the X1000. As I understand the Sam 440 and 460 can make use of 3D in games as their older Radeons are supported by OS4 for 3D but the X1000 having a newer Radeon was always left waiting for support.

Sorry - a bit confused

@-Sam-

OS4 supports 3D with:
Permedia 2 (BVision/CVisionPPC)
Voodoo 3/4/5
Radeon 7000/7200/7500/9000/9200/9250

On X1000 you can istall PCI GFX card (eg Radeon 9250) and use both fast 2D (Radeon HD in PCIe) and 3D (Radeon 9250 in PCI).

3D support for newer GFX cards (via Gallium 3D) is one of goals of AmigaOS 4.2.

Apologies for what may seem silly questions but I never really understood what the 'missing' bit was that prevents the X1000 graphics card from supporting 3D.

Sure - Gallium will support 3D in the newer cards such as the RadeonHD in the X1000 but what about older software that isn't written with Gallium in mind? Will the drivers ever support 3D for older software such as Quake 2 or 3 on the RadeonHD in the X1000?

@ Spectre660

Do you have tested Radeon HD 6570 Ultimate with your 460? It's a passive cooled gfx and it would be a great add-on in a silent system as Sam460ex

@kyle

I dont have the Radeon HD 6570 Ultimate.

I have an OEM model
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=HD6570-PCIE-1024-BULK

It only works if a dvi to vga adapter is used.

I believe that the model that Amigakit sell should work ok.You could verify with them if they tested it with the Sam460ex.

I've purchased the new Radeon drivers, just downloaded from AEon tehcnology site and installed on my 460ex, but, as already happened to sticky, they are the 0.53 version.

It should be the 0.54 version of drivers... any hint?
