software OS4   software OS4 : Hyperion Releases AmigaOS 4.1 Update 6
posted by eliyahu on 30-Nov-2012 14:10:11 (18274 reads)
UPDATE 6 is back on the Hyperion web site ready for download for registered users.

As mentioned over at IntuitionBase this morning, Hyperion has released AmigaOS 4.1 Update 6.

While a couple of bug fixes are included for the AmigaOne X1000, this small update marks the end of an era: as promised by team lead Steven Solie at AmiWest 2012, we'll be able to enjoy OS component updates as they are ready via AmiUpdate. So, for example, one component update need not wait on another to be ready to available for customers. From the included AmigaGuide file:

Quote:
Future AmigaOS updates will be delivered using AmiUpdate. A new update server has been setup at update.amigaos.net to deliver these updates.

A new Workbench menu item named "Update software..." has been added to conveniently launch AmiUpdate.

Only registered users will be able to download updates. To register your AmigaOS serial number go to www.hyperion-entertainment.biz. During the registration process a user name and password will be created. You will be prompted for your user name and password the first time you try to access the update.amigaos.net server with AmiUpdate.

An additional preferences program named "Updates" is provided to control how updates are delivered. For example, the location of the RollBack directory and scheduling of automatic updates can both be configured.

Head on over to the Hyperion web site and pick up your copy today!

Excellent news. I really must get around to registering my X1000. AmiUpdate will be really useful.

But that is just a test case, I think. A safe bet to test that the installer is installed so to speak.

The important but is the amiupdate setup which is now official and the official server etc etc.

No it was not released. I mistakenly published the file too soon. Do not install.

Nice to see that your promise to provide more frequent updates as they are available is happening Steve. I think that this policy is good for the OS4.x platform. Now if we could just get a little more transparency from Hyperion and their future plans, or what is being worked on, that would be even better (not that I am complaining, just wishful thinking on my part alone).

Thanks for putting this into practice Steve. Keep up the good work and thanks for all of your contributions toward moving OS4.x forward, plus your dedication to accept the position of lead programmer in a community where some members can be very un-supportive sometimes.

Edit: Must have been posting at the same time as Steve. Do you mean that Update 4.1.6 is not ready for download and installation, or something else within Update 4.1.6, like the calculator that was mentioned in the previous post?

@ ssolie

Although installed it, I can't see any problems so far. Should I leave it as it is then or downgrade to Update5?

@mods

is it possible to alter the news post to reflect that my, er, 'announcement' was premature? or to possibly remove the post entirely?

Do more than add a smiley. Remove the statement and report the "true" result of installing update6 before we start seeing articles on other WEB sites about bad OS4 updates.

OK, I've added a warning to the start of the news item.

Thank You. I sure this will be sorted soon. I too installed the update before reading it was premature. So far it hasn't caused any problems for me.
