software OS4   software OS4 : Cinemaware® is Back on AmigaOS!
posted by AlexC on 29-Jan-2013 4:44:53 (11241 reads)
Cinemaware in cooperation with Hyperion Entertainment are proud to announce the re-distribution of its classic Amiga 68K Cinemaware titles. Through the magic of emulation and genuine Amiga ROMs, you can once again play titles such as Defender of the Crown® on PowerPC-based AmigaOS systems with a simple double click of the mouse. Everything you need to run these classic Cinemaware games is already included in AmigaOS 4.1. There is even an option for using an original joystick via the Catweasel joystick driver for a truly nostalgic experience.

Click READ MORE for additional info:

All registered AmigaOS owners now have access to these Cinemaware games at www.hyperion-entertainment.biz in the downloads section. Customers can simply choose the games they are interested in and click download. Manuals are also included for a majority of the games.

AmigaOS has evolved from its humble beginnings on those original 68k systems and so has Cinemaware. Cinemaware not only has a brand new web site at www.cinemware.com, but Cinemaware titles are also available for iOS such as Defender of the Crown® and the upcoming The King of Chicago™. You can expect many more classic Cinemaware titles to be available on a portable device near you soon! Also keep an eye out for Cinemaware Kickstarter projects which will reboot your favorite titles with HD graphics and new gameplay content!

Hyperion Entertainment is offering these games as a free bonus for all its AmigaOS customers, and is distributing these games with the full cooperation of Cinemaware. Issues may be posted at support.amigaos.net where we will do our best to help you.

There is nothing more than what is in the news. I had contact to one of the new "cinemaware" owner. They only partly had the sourcecode so developing a successor is always meaning starting from scratch. They tried to get the money by kickstarter and failed and if they develop one of the games I see no big chance that they would create a version for a couple of hundred users (potential buyers), propably not even a AROS version. Propably something for mobile devices, XBox and PC (Windows/Linux). So do not interpret more in the news than there is.

Ah ok, i thought you were speaking from a general POV and not for your own situation, which i remember from your own other thread.
OS4.1 has changed significantly from OS4.0 so a lot of things are starting to require OS4.1 as a minimum.
Especially in this regard - with latest updates - you have a preconfigured emulation environment with legal copies of the ROMs and OS3.

Indeed and I appreciate that.

I was just pointing out that I think they should either remove "all" or add "4.1" to:

... because it is not accurate.

Which is also legally available to most people who bought classic Amigas.

URL of cinemaware on the news item lack the A (it's cinemAware.com not cinemware.com).

@Channel_Z

So what? Do you have anything to add except stating the obvious? Of course downloading an ADF doesn't automatically mean that you can have a legit use of it unless you have either: a real Amiga (classic or OS4), Amiga Forever or AROS' replacement roms.
I thought this was obvious for everyone.

If an up-to-date install of 4.1 is required to take advantage of this offer, it should be clearly stated.

It is in the news item, you must have missed it.

The announcement says:

That is not accurate.

You must've missed it.

Probably already reported... but the Hyperlink to Cinemaware in the news item is broken.

Yes, AROS replacement ROMs, which are now bundled with the by far most used Amiga emulator, WinUAE, and thus automatically installed and available for free and legal use for anyone wishing to play those games in a modern computing environment.

My issue is with trying to pose something freely available for over a decade as "added value for our customers only". It's kind of like C=USA beating their drums over having VICE pre-installed in their Linux distro.

Most cinemaware games do not work with Rom Replacements right now (except Wings) but that will certainly improve in future. It is not important anyway and we do not need to provocate each other.

Hyperion can offer some ADFs for download now. Not more not less. It does not mean any sort of "cooperation" or that Cinemaware will support AmigaOS as a major target platform now. If we want that kind of news again there must be offers that create interest by developers (new innovative concepts f.e.)

It says all registered AmigaOS owners have access.

They don't.

@Robert,
Don't fret too much - you can download them from Cinemaware directly, just like people have been doing since 2001:

http://www.cinemaware.com/games/

Run them on any system that can emulate an Amiga, just like you would with OS4.

Yes, I know. I already own boxed versions of two of them and downloaded most of the rest ages ago.
However, that is not my point.

As I've been repeatedly saying, all I'm doing is pointing out an inaccuracy.

The games are in a separate folder alongside the OS4.0 and OS4.1 ones, so as long as you have registered any OS4.x version you likely have access to the games. Did you try to download them?

This is great to see.

I wonder if the games are still the cracked copies.
I remember a few years ago, that when I downloaded Sinbad from cinemaware, the adf was a cracked version from megabyte!
