Announcement   Announcement : New AmigaOne X1000 Batch & New RadeonHD Driver
posted by TrevorDick on 4-Apr-2013 1:43:08 (17122 reads)
Cardiff, 2nd April 2013

New batch of AmigaOne X1000 approved for production

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that, due to overwhelming customer demand, we have commissioned another manufacturing run of AmigaOne X1000 systems with our suppliers. We expect to receive new boards from Varisys within 8 to 10 weeks.

Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit, our official distributor commented, "On-going delivery of the AmigaOne X1000 to customers is progressing. We also have a large backlog of customers who have already registered their interest and they will be serviced first from the new manufacturing batch." If you have already registered your interest you need take no further action as you are already in the order queue and will be contacted by AmigaKit to confirm your system specifications as they work through the backorder list. If you no longer wish to reserve your place please contact AmigaKit to remove yourself from the list. If you still wish to register your interest and have not yet done so, please visit the following web link: www.amigakit.com/x1000

Radeon HD version 1.0 RC1 available for download

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that the first Release Candidate of the RadeonHD driver (Version 1.0 RC1 (0.55) is now available for download by registered AmigaONE X1000 owners from the A-EON Technology website.

Registered customers: www.a-eon.com/?page=download&os=amigaos
New customers: www.a-eon.com/radeonhd

The new version fixes a number of minor issues and bugs including:

* Fixed a bug that could cause minor graphics corruption that occurred on a few graphics cards when switching between GPU and CPU based rendering (e.g., the arrow buttons in Directory Opus 4).

* Forces the OS to wait for the GPU to be idle before a soft reboot so that some Radeon HD 5xxx cards don't lock up if the soft-reboot occurs while they're still busy (requiring a hard reset).

* Re-enabled using timer device for longish delays when switching Screenmodes (no busy waiting means more CPU time for other tasks). Added a workaround so that this doesn't prevent soft reboots

* In addition, there have also been minor miscellaneous fixes.

Registered owners of new AmigaOne 500 and selected Sam460 systems purchased directly from ACube can also download the driver. If you own multiple AmigaOS systems you can also purchase additional licences through the same website.

About the Radeon HD driver: The driver supports 2D and Compositing under AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 with a wide range of Radeon HD PCI graphics cards including: the X1300-X1950 series, HD4000 series, "Evergreen" HD5000 series, "Northern Islands" HD6000 series and now the "Southern Island" HD7000 series. Version 0.54 is fully ready for 3D support to be added by Hyperion Entertainment. Please visit AmigaKit's website to obtain compatible graphics cards.

Link: www.amigakit.com

About the developer: Hans de Ruiter is an electrical & electronic engineer and leading AmigaOS developer and Amiga enthusiast. His website - HDRLab - details various projects, many of which are AmigaOS related. The biggest of these is the RadeonHD driver for AmigaOS, an ambitious project that aims to deliver modern graphics capabilities for the AmigaOS platform.

I couldnt care less how people spend their money, nor if they use PC or Amiga (I use PC for pretty much everything I do myself).

But you more or less discourage him to use Amiga for buissness which is why I responded.

@ Karlos

> You recently spent 850 EUR on an upgrade to a system, but were happy to accept a Sam paid for

Just to add some quick replies:

- I've spent 850 euros for upgrading a PC that is used daily for work. I wish I could spend $5000 for Amiga that I wish I could use for daily work

- I wish I could use Amiga daily [as I was using it back in 1990s when I have spent over 10.000 DEM [it is ~5000 eur now] [as one of the biggest Amiga fans ever] for single machine. I am sure I was one of the rarest people that spent that much but at that time my Amiga was used daily for producing Desktop and Print publishings. At that time I've bought all graphics software available.

> A system that you subsequently complained about at length and bemoaned the purchase of a graphics card for out of your own pocket.

As a business guy [that works a lot] - I also earn "a lot". Not as much as western people but I believe it is more than good. Also I don`t earn money because I am lazy. I earn money because I work very hard and very much. At the point when I got a baby - my "work" time is now halved [from 80% of daily time to just 40%]. You will see when you became a father. You will then remember how much time you have to spend on raising a child.

> A system that you've yet to meet your end of the bargain for obtaining.

I have a bunch of satisfied clients out-there and I work very fast and quick and I have over 20 years of experience.

My wish to create a usable skin is still very hard and I prepared over 7 of them, but the problem is - skin that works here does not work at other's place. I am close to create full working theme but like I said - I've spend a lots of time [and money] for something that is not finished.

AmigaOS in time when Amiga.de was existing [OS3.1] and current OS4.1+ can`t be compared at all. At that time I was working fast and Amiga was very usable. At current state Amiga is not usable at level I want to. AmiKIT is more usable to me as more programs [from past] are compatible and working.

I don`t understand why you can`t accept that AmigaOS really needs to UPDATE a lot!

I am not saying this because I hate Amiga. I am saying this because I really wish to help! I want to see AmigaOS usable again, after so many years! I really want to join Amiga Team and send just several suggestions so AmigaOS becomes usable again [to artist, to 3D animators, to 3D editors, to musicians]...

Look, if I spend 6 months of trying just to boot Amiga and I am very busy, then something and somewhere is not good.

Try to understand my point of view:

Commodore 64:
Was perfect for games and music composing at that time.

Amiga PPC:
was extremly usable at that time when there were PCs with beepers and Win3.1. At that time I've been producing more music than ever in my life. System was perfect.

PC with Win7:
was great for games at that time and now is extremly useful for producing videos, music and animations. I can`t say that for Windows98, WindowsVista or Linux.

iOS:
extremly fun and useful for art, music, business apps, daily use, 3D, games, music live acts... [iPad and iPhones]

Android [tablets]:
Not very usable, slow, annoying but system has good potential WHEN devices become much faster than they are today. On Android it is impossible to do Live Acts with music, impossible to draw anything, and it is not pleasure to work anything in real time, including surfing the web.

Amiga SAM460:
Extremly fun machine, but 90% is not working :(
System is stabile [and not crashing for several hours] only if I don`t play any music or play any video. Surfing is possible but it is slightly faster than on Androids. Games aren't fun as they are all ports from Linux.

MorphOS:
I am not interested in MOS at all. It is simply not Amiga and thats end of the story. But I really like how it looks. I don`t see the point of using MOS as it can do maybe 20% more than AmigaOS. If I will do anything much more - it will be AmigaOS only because I don`t see MorphOS inspiration at all.

Aros:
The same. If I will use Amiga on PC - I will use AmiKIT that is fantastic presentation what AmigaOS is. With OS4.1 there is no demos, no demo programs... nothing that can attract any new user.

Linux:
I am not interested at all. What is the point to use Linux and emulate Windows just to use slower Adobe programs?

I don`t know where I've find all my free time to write all this but I suppose I've shared my point of view.

And the point is: AmigaOS needs UPDATE. Not Update1, Update2, New Drivers every 15 days without any 3D support and overlay... It is good that something happens but it is still not usable.

I am still waiting for proper driver so I can promote Amiga and what / why use AmigaOS in 2013.

My Youtube channel is still very strong [over 100.000 people watching it every day] and I am really happily waiting for new [any] driver that will allow me to play Youtube videos without stuttering or play any 3D game in more than 4fps.

>A system that you've complained about the horrendous complexity of skinning, when another user has created about 20 themes without any similar histrionics. A user that produced work you claimed wasn't professional, when I might add, all I've seen you do so far is copy other people's artwork?

I've just uploaded 14mb file with 11 wallpapers in 5 resolutions and should appear on OS4 deopt soon. Aminet is not working [I've tried to connect but no luck].

There are 2 walls here:

http://www.amiga-look.org/

or http://www.amiga-look.org/u/djnick [page 2]...

> After all of this, you just drop in an off the cuff remark about how much you spent upgrading your PC for video work.

Last time I've upgraded PC was in 2008.

>And as this post will probably be moderated, I might as well say it. How hard is it to put a colour coordinated wallpaper and window border/widget bitmap set together? I seem to recall having no difficulties re-skinning the default 4.1 theme to my own tastes, despite being chronically colourblind and having virtually no artistic talent at all. And that default 4.1 theme was rather better than the horrendous early OSX horizontal pinstripe clone of yours I saw posted around here not long ago.

Ok I have created skin that works all well to me. Please let me know or help HOW to export it to you. When I do so, I will create a tutorial how to do it. Currently it is still not working. It is not HTML - it is CSS knowledge that I don`t know or have time to learn.

@ DJnick

Sounds like you may have a screwed up Sam460 system.

The registered version of Dvplayer works well for me for avi's.
If I have a video that I know will have playback problems on the Sam460ex I convert to avi or resize using my PC and Any video Professional .No different than ripping a DVD for a portable device . Tunenet does a good job for music playback. No crashes like you describe on my System .
You may want to investigate your RAM

@ Spectre660

The most annoying problem is with timer... Like I said - I was asked strange question about time, I suppose I clicked something and since then it does no count time well, like battery is empty.

Other than that - all works OK except once in 6 reboots mouse is not working and sometimes keyboard is not working... What can I do... :S

The time prefs are in
SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys/time.prefs
and
SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys/timezone.prefs

You could try renaimg the two files to
time.prefs.old
and
timezone.prefs.old
to get back the default settings.

I too have the mouse or keyboard problem .

@djnick

Sometimes I think thifs forum needs a Like button.. well said earlier.

RE: keyboard, mouse, yes I feel your pain, however I've noticed gradual improvements over time, there is definitely something wrong with initialising the USB Hub on boot. Also about 2 months ago the clock battery decided to die on me.. not good. However there is utility on OS4Depot that I just stick in WBStartup - it simply grabs time from a remote server, not ideal - but hey my Amiga is ALWAYS connected no matter what.

As for happy 'clients', yes you can add me to that list for your skin-work on Jack. Sure it was done in in PS, but who cares it gets the job done.

Need to correct you on that somewhat delusional comment you claim there... Myself and lots of people I knew spent that kind of money and more back in the day on our Amiga setups and we were not "rare" at all, in fact of all the Amiga users I knew back in the Amigas heyday we we're the average and normal...

Countless men have children and run their own business but their workload doesn't drop by half because of it, unless you are bringing up the kid on your own and can't afford day care for the child, which I doubt is not the case... strange thing to even say...

DJnick Wrote:

Erm... since when did not having some skins/ eye candy ever stop AmigaOS being usable in the first place !!!
You say some bizarre things at times but that has got to be one of the most bizarre things you have ever said on this entire subject...

Why does it need these updates when all your are supposed to be doing is creating some backdrops and skins. AmigaOS is fully capable right now of handling such a simple thing otherwise other people wouldn't have already done so and continue to do so...

Honestly in all my years of being an Amiga user I've never heard so many excuses from anyone like you come up with in regard to performing such a simple straightforward task...

A task which you chose to take on and told people to expect "the greatest they've ever seen" and continue to claim all those years of experience with the Amiga and all the internet/ web work you do and yet you can't even get you free Amiga to work and seem to have problems even preforming straightforward task like uploading things to the internet...

I genuinely question any of your abilities and indeed words when it comes to anything to do with the Amiga...

Well clearly someone missed the part where djnick said he was struggling with the archaic mechanisms of Prefs. Besides.. Prefs does need a massive overhaul there can be no denying it.

Money has nothing to do with it. He could be a millionaire. The people starting the bounty are the ones asking him to spend his time doing something for them for free, well the cost of a barely working system and a lot of hassle. It sounds like DJnick lost in this deal.

I don't see how this is any different then the Spotify deal. Do you think Spotify does not have enough money to buy a SAM? Do you not think they have bought new computers or houses or hookers and booze? No, but they got a free SAM. And why should they pay for one? A group of people are asking them to do work for us. It would be pretty silly to say, oh yeah do our work and also buy an expensive computer too! lol

DJnick is the one with the skills. You are lucky you are getting some of his time to work for you. The least that could be done is give him a system. Though I hardly see how ~$800 is any sort of payment for what he is doing/going through. But I guess he is generous to us.

@amigablitter

its hard not to agree with djnick comments on os4, but this is not the subject. the os is how it is. none of us is gonna change it. he was asked for few skins. nothing groundbreaking. he actually volunteered himself. he was given a machine to do it. if he is not satisfied with it he should pass it to whomever would be and can do a constructive work. upgrades he made should be reasonably refunded. simple as that.

@ AmigaHeretic

As you quoted my post but didn't mention me by name I can only assume you are directing your comments at me... so...

I've no idea what "Spotify" is let alone what "deal" was done with them/ it !!!

I am not "lucky" to be getting anything from DJnick let alone his time as he produces nothing I want nor anything that is of any use to me...

But I'm glad your happy and feel fine about someone whom claimed they could do something for YOU provided others paid for a system for him that he could apparently afford to buy himself...

Thing your missing in your little post there is, (and I don't know if I'm correct in this) but surely the bounty to buy DJnick his sam wasn't just done randomly out of the blue, I mean I don't suppose someone just decided to start a bounty for a SAM and then randomly pick someone to give it to. Surely DJnick must have made it known that he would do this "work" if he was given a computer to do it on, ergo: volunteering to do it...

Or was he just randomly picked out of the blue and given this SAM for no apparent reason ???

spotify is a very bad example. It will not work because they have no interest any of our platforms. For a software company the working hours are the problem, not buying (one time) of hardware. Spotify was certainly created for good intentions but it will not work because there is not the commercial interest (user base). The same is for any other commercial company or developer.

What he can afford/justify to buy hardware wise for day to day work doesnt nessicarily translate into affording Amiga hardware.

But I suspect time is the constraining resource.

@DJ Nick

Im with you with almost every part except android.

For the work on amiga its often hard to do it in easy way, trying to find workarounds etc. Same stuff on pc is made fast and easy. Just take videoencoding/cutting/mixing etc. So i see why it takes time for Nick to finish some stuff. And i dont think he knows fully how to do stuff on mui either. You can have a finished map in your head about a project but realising it is another thing. It makes you move it for some other time. Its the same with music, i like doing it on amiga but i dont think have we have music apps enough or functions needed for faster work or to get most people interested.
