   posted by Cyborg on 18-Dec-2014 20:20:09 (11878 reads)
(Source: www.hyperion-entertainment.biz)

Brussels, December 18, 2014
Hyperion Entertainment is thrilled to announce shipment of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition to dealers has been started. This means that the first customers will get their own copy of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition right before christmas, just in time to put it underneath the christmas tree.

Since the initial release of AmigaOS 4.1 more than six years ago, functionality and user experience have been steadily improved by six free major updates and over 88 free smaller ones through AmiUpdate. AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition defines the new baseline by consolidating all previous updates, bringing new long awaited features and stability improvements and last but not least enabling the user to make a clean installation in one go. Additionally it comes professionally produced as full version on physical media in a nice DVD box, together with a booklet containing installation instruction as well as a little extra for only EUR 29.95 suggested retail price (incl. VAT, may very on your location).

AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition is currently available for:

AmigaOne XE, SE and MicroA1
AmigaOne X1000
AmigaOne 500/Sam460
Sam440
Pegasos 2
Amiga 1200/3000/4000

Customers can find a list of possible dealers at http://www.amigaos.net/content/4/where-buy.
Interested dealers can register themselves and order AmigaOS by writing to orders@hyperion-entertainment.biz.

Hyperion Entertainment and the whole team behind AmigaOS wish a merry christmas, happy new year and lots of fun with AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition!

I am sorry, but I would like to see some changelog over update 6.

Here is two different machines are used for different tasks and I am not convinced that how much final updates I need - one, two or none.

Bye

More info including partial feature list (in previous news item) here:

http://www.hyperion-entertainment.biz/

Off the top of my head:

Excellent, so at the end we will able to adapt certain "alien" menu to AmigaOS, just thinking about Qt like menus or even Timberwolf menu !

Hyperion's news item really ought to have linked to their previous one too, which actually listed the new features:

@ChrisH

Is it really so hard to scroll down a bit to find the previous news item?

@Amigakit
Is there a place in the checkout to specify delivery date? I don't want it to arrive while I'm gone on holiday and have it returned.

@Trixie

Yep, sounds interesting alright. This was talked about a long time ago as a limiting factor for giving Timberwolf a native AmigaOS GUI - Firefox required more levels of menu entry than Intuition could provide. I guess that's not the only thing holding it up though

Icons in Intution Menu... oh great I was only requesting this week on the Hyperion Forums, I believe the suggestion has been floating around for years. Good to see =) I want to be able to take advantage of these as soon as possible.

Gotta say, really impressed at the pricing (which nobody seems to have commented on).

There's no way I'd have paid before just to play around with AmigaOS 4.x, but this along with WinUAE is a winner! Will be picking up a copy after payday... I predict huge increase in income all-round!

(Even brought me out of lurk mode!)

Images have always been possible in menus, but only magi of the highest order could ever get it to work.

Please don't expect programs to be using this from day one, I've only seen one demo (in the SDK examples drawer, but not public yet) using it so far.

@broadblues

You've not played around with NetSurf 3.2 then?

I suspect I can tidy it up if there's a new menu.class (also the current public OS4 is missing some improvements), Frederik put a lot of work into first fixing the entirely broken image menus and subsequently improving the look of them based on me constantly finding problems.

@Chris_Y

Cool, well that just goes to prove that Magi of the highest otder could get images into the menus

As I understand it though Massimo has reworked the menus system from scratch (or at least extensivley) as well as adding the new class and keeping backward comptabilty with gadtools and 'manual menus' (like PPaint uses :-0 )
