Now lets's assume we can accept to pay for, ok but at least they could sell those 2D and 3D drivers in a single package no ?

I agree, just 1 package for all the items, would be much better for the final user. More semplicity to avoid confusion.

Agreed as well. Currently I am not even sure if I need to purchase the version 1. driver before I can purchase the version 2.x driver or how it works, as such I have given the hole thing a miss.

I was really hoping that AmigaKit would offer bundles were they offer not only supported cards but the required driver as well (possibly as code enter into AMIStore to access the driver).

There is no requirement for purchasing the 1.x version before purchasing the 2.x versions. I found the 2.x version to be well worthwhile, assuming of course that you are using a Radeon HD graphics card.

You think that x86 gfx drivers are free? They aren't.
When you buy a gfx card a cut goes to pay for the gfx drivers. Economies of scale means that this may be a very small amount, but it is still there.

Now if you can just negotiate with AMD to include AmigaOS4 drivers and continued free updates on their install CDs...

When you buy a Gfx Card and use it with Haiku, OSX, Linux, BSD, AROS or whatever, you don't pay for drivers. If we exclude OSX/Linux, who do you think paid for these drivers ? No one.

AmigaOS is the only OS I know which asks for money for about any component: TCP/Stack (although this has changed), GUI, Drivers, Simple text/image viewer,... Although the slogan says "remember when computing was fun ?", it seems to be all about money, before the fun.

I wish fun (and open-mind) was the focus, not the money. Drivers aren't even finished that you already have to pay for them. If only there they finished and tested...

@Leo

Your forgot MorpOS.
But I cant run it on my Sam460ex with my current graphics card , a Radeon HD7750.
So hey I spent a small amount of money on the Radeon HD driver and I am happy.
I can use my Radeon HD with AMigaOS4.1 FE and with Linux .
Yipee !!!! .
Sorry MorphOS can't use you on the Sam without disconnecting things yet.

@BCP
One could ask why they offer two versions of the driver, since the 1.x version is completely redundant to 2.x, i.e. has no more features than the latter.
Possibly it's just a way to get two times cash from the X1000 customers.

Still waiting to see a working X1k-ethernet driver

I can't really comment because i don't have neither a Sam460 nor an X1000 but i suppose it's to offer a cheaper upgrade path to those who received the Lite version of the drivers for free with the Sam460 and don't want/need to invest in a bigger-newer graphic card.

2.x has the composited video feature to speed up video playback. Presumably Hans was paid extra to add this and they know that not everyone will need or use this feature hence to different versions. They are also try to balance the books here so that they at least break even on development or make some profit to invest in further development.

What's wrong with the RTL card your currently using in the X1000 or do you want to free up a PCI slot for something else.

@Rob

First of all, I welcome AEON's dedication for their continued Amiga development.
But still, it makes no sense to offer a lite version, or a feature-cut version, or however you want to name 1.7 of the driver. Everyone wants any accleration (like compositing support for video) he can get.

Regarding the ethernet driver for the PA6T. A 3000€ computer should come with a working ethernet driver. There is no excuse after 4 years.
