Introducing Tabor and the A1222
A powerful, low cost, entry level PowerPC motherboard

San Francisco 19th October 2015

A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce that Tabor, a new powerful, low cost, entry level PowerPC motherboard, which forms part of our A1200 series, is about to undergo beta testing.

As part of our drive to create more powerful lower cost, entry level hardware and expand the Next-Generation user base we commissioned Ultra Varisys to create a new PowerPC motherboard. The result is Tabor, a 170 mm x 170 mm mother-board based on a Freescale QorIQ P1022 32-bit e500v2 dual-core PowerPC processor running at 1.2 GHz. Prototypes have already been shipped to key developers and members of A-EON Technology’s Core Linux support team and, as a result, several Linux distributions are already up and running on the Tabor board. Working in cooperation with ACube srl, a beta test programme is about to commence, which is already over-subscribed.

The full system is designated the AmigaOne A1222.

@cdimauro & broadblues

Science translates to "knowledge, skill, expertness, awareness, acquaintance". In scandinavian "vetenskap" which kind of means "the art of knowledge" or "knowledgability".

The word science isn't that well defined. Mathematics is formal science, there is natural science, applied science... Where in this group you like to put "exact science" is for you to google But you can't hardheadedly say that psychology or mathematics isn't science. I'd say it depends how you use it and what you use it for if it becomes science or not.

Splitting a bill at TGI Friday's isn't mathematical science, but deriving Pi in geometry I'd say classify as mathematical science.

@Deniil715: I agree.

@Tuxedo.

He was obviously speaking about common way of software development...why he have to speak in theoric therms?
I really dont understand all that talking about a simple statement...

If you talk about "exact science" it's obvious the opposite: you're referring to the formal definition. Hence, the dispute.

Words are important, Simone.

However I think that filling pages of a thread which talks of completely different thing only for this... is a bit too much.

(I think) The problem is that ssolie spoke a set phrase (:an expression whose meanings cannot be inferred from the meanings of the words that make it up) and you took it literally

Indeed, but did ssolie even actually say it? I just watched his AmiWest presentation, which was quite informal in tone, hence taking anything said in it 'formally' as cdimauro would like to is a mistake, but no where in the video did he say "software is not an exact science", the closest I heard was that in computer science there often not just one answer to a problem.

Has he been very badly paraphrased or did he say it somewhen else?

Edit:

He said in the a.org post AmiWest Q&A, the context is obvious, cdimauro's inabilty to understand that, says more about him than ssolie.

God knows what my need to reply to this subject says about me

Well, when you talk of "exact science", the term refers to a precise thing.

I haven't read amiga.org: I don't follow such forum.

The sentence was reported in another forum, as is. Ask Tuxedo...

@Tuxedo: there's no problem, according to the context, accepting the fact that software development takes time.

But that's NOT because it isn't an exact science.

Is it more clear now?

Almost three pages over 1 sentance in AmiWest. Not bad !

And Id say, this demostrates why Hyperion and Ssolie avoids posting much (and even reading) on forums. Everything they say are dissected and meanings (right or wrong) assigned.

@cdimauro

yes and no ;-P since no need to read something tat wasnt in the Steven phrase imho...

however back in topic I hope that Tabor will receive OS4.1 in not so much time...Iμm really curious to see some nice benchmark made with Tabor under AmigaOS
