@TRIPOS

So your remark about usage of 4.1 Classic in WinUAE was trolling as usual.

IMO the only reason which you're still refusing to do a
trivial thing like this, is because you have agreements with your
hardware partners, and don't want to hurt the sells of their
machines, including future ones.

This makes sense at least and number of units to be produced was
publicly stated with more than a thousand by AEon so I'll go with that.

Also the fact that core devs of OS have to support more real hardware
is something I don't doubt either so I think it's both reasons combined.

All other limitations should probably be removed by AmigaOS 4 core devs
when they get the time to do so , makes no sense to torture development
of UAE for that.PPC emulation was introduced for emulating last of real
Amiga cards and to be used in 3.x environment and it works great for that
but everyone want OS4 which runs by side effect.

Well, Toni did intentionally changes in WinUAE to get OS4 running.

Well, not if you accept the line I quote repeatedly from the freeamiga website:

Quote:
In a way, the new "Amiga" companies got what they wanted: complete confusion.

I don't see myself ever having to disagree with that. heh.

Added: Apparently all parties feel the need to clarify. Martin (senex) posted yesterday on Morphzone:

Quote:
amiga-news.de is in contact with both Mike and Ralph, more to follow in a news-item probably today.

Added: There has just been an additional response:

Post #45 from Amiganews.de to mcb

BTW-to avoid polluting this thread further, I prefer to post a definitive response (when and if we receive one) in the "who owns what" thread, where such information truly belongs.

freeamiga? "They" now bear name "AmigaDocuments". Sounds less like propaganda vehicle now.

Exactly.

I wonder when (assuming their statement is true) got Cloanto rights to PowerUP ROMs. It could be before September 2014 when QEMU CPU core was integrated in WinUAE making OS4 useable at reasonable speed.

The patch is already there, so nothing has to be developed. You only need to merge the new patch, and make it mainline, releasing the new binary.

It's not rocket science, and it's something which requires very little time to do.

Developers which work with versioning systems and build systems know it very well.

It's Hyperion that has to take a decision here, but it doesn't want, even with the "classic" version which increased OS4 sells...

However such changes it's better to be moved on the WinUAE side. A Voodoo3 emulation should solve most of the graphic limits, which is currently the other big issues. For networking, actually 1MB/s is enough (it's around the bandwidth that I've with my ADSL, and I live pretty well ).

@cdimauro

I thought maybe they want to solve all issues at once and
then release kernel.

Memory , 2D/3D graphics acceleration , network etc. all exist
on host OS so only support in OS4 is needed.

As for infamous ROM I wonder why Pascal never got permission to use it
while Cloanto did.He even tried to pay for it to Ralph.Or Phase 5 I think.

It would have been true if Hyperion didn't release any update for its o.s., but, as I think you know, there's an update system which is working and releasing patches for the system.

"Strangely" there's no time to release a patch for a couple of lines of code...

For memory see above. For the rest, you need some driver, and that's not strictly related to the o.s. (the graphic drivers are developed by an external coder, for example).

Hyperion stated next update will be one big package. I don´t know, why they should make exception for Classic version (and risk breaking of some other OS parts).

I mean PCI settings in WinUAE/Expansion

HI Pavlor

Yes managed to get rid of the muffled sound by selecting PCI card emulation so this has helped big time. The Mini Slug now runs in full screen and i can increase the screen resolution overall to 1024*768 so performance wise is ok on a Surface 3 and would make a good portable Amiga OS4.1 solution.

I tried to have a play around with AmigaAMP playing a MP3 stream from Slayradio but i keep getting a data stall issue which I guess we can attribute to 128MB handicap under emulation.

@outrun1978

Don´t use AmigaAMP 3 in WinUAE, it eats too much CPU. AmigaAmp 2 and mpga.library are better choice for WinUAE (CPUinfo docky reports 12 % CPU usage).

I've already exposed the reasons.

(and risk breaking of some other OS parts).

That part of the kernel (adding Z3 RAM as swap area) was only related to the "classic" machines.

Changing it to add the Z3 RAM to the regular memory pool is trivial, easier, and safe.

Albeit as part of QA I don't trust developers by definition, and I want always to check if the new binaries are working.

But if it's the testing time which is the only problem, there are plenty of OS4/Classic users that can do beta testing for it. And I think that Michele Battilana can also be very interesting on doing that.

In short: it's only a question of willpower. Either they wanted to do it, or not.

Currently it's not, and without any good reason (from a OS4/Classic customer PoV).

@cdimauro

It is not only case of Classic. Some small bugs were corrected year ago, still waiting for update. I will wait for this big update to (not so final ) Final Update and then judge.

I have no problem beliving cdimauro regarding the hardware vendor issue vs releasing a memorylimit patch. Its something Ive assumed for a good while anyhow.
BUT unlike some, Im quite positive regarding Aeonkits effect on the current developments in general. Yes, their PPC hardware is quite expensive, but beyond that, they (amongst others) push forward with developments where there were none in the past.

I have no problem understanding they want to protect their hardware investment for now, altho I think its temporary (in amiga terms). The AmiStore will eventually yield enough income to offset the PPC hardware aspect. Espesially if you factor in the coming performance increase in WB3.x userbase thru FPGA accelerators. Coupled with AmiStore, that will boost the customercount.
