Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : Enhancer Software 1.2 Released
   posted by amigakit on 27-Dec-2016 21:10:46 (9431 reads)
A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to deliver another major update to the Enhancer Software for AmigaOS 4.1 systems. The Enhancer Software version 1.2 package demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the AmigaOS platform. We are pleased to confirm that it is available as a free download from AMIStore for existing registered users. New customers can either purchase a digital download from AMIStore or a buy a boxed CD from selected Amiga dealers.

The year 2016 has been a busy and productive time for the new AmigaDeveloper.com Team. In May, Enhancer Software v1.0 was released, shortly afterwards in August the v1.1 package was completed and released to the public. Version 1.2 in now the ultimate release of 2016 and represents a snapshot of the complete year's work by the team.

Enhancer Software Special Edition
For the first time to meet popular demand, there is now a low cost version called the Enhancer Software Special Edition. This is aimed at lower specification and older computer systems that cannot use the RadeonHD, Warp3D Nova/OpenGL ES 2.0. The lower priced Special Edition is identical to the other versions of the Enhancer Software however, CANDI, RadeonHD, Warp3D Nova and OpenGL ES 2.0 have been omitted from the package.

RadeonHD updated with Oland chipset support
In the Standard Edition and Plus Edition, RadeonHD driver has been significantly updated. RadeonHD Oland chipset is now supported which opens up a wider range of graphics cards which can run on the Amiga and run with Warp3D Nova. Oland chipset based graphics cards can be currently more easily obtained at lower costs which we are hoping will encourage more users to upgrade to modern graphics hardware.

Warp3D Nova and Open GL ES 2.0 updated
Also present in the Standard Edition and Plus Edition are big updates to Warp3D Nova (v1.34) and OpenGL ES 2.0 (v1.12). The features supported by Nova have been increased and performance has been boosted which have been taken advantage of by the optimised OpenGL ES 2.0 library.

Utilities updated
Popular applications such as TuneNet have been steadily upgraded over the last few months. Additionally, development resource has been invested in to AmiPDF, Clock, MultiEdit, MultiViewer, X-Dock to keep them incrementally progressing and meeting the demands of user feedback. A "skinnable" Calendar application (based on the new datesheet gadget) has now been added to complement the "skinnable" Clock application from the previous release. Also the clipboard manager, ClipViewer has been updated to accommodate user feedback.

New Prefs applications added
There are now two new Prefs applications added which have been taken and adapted from the forthcoming Enhancer Software OS3 package. The new Sound Prefs combines the functionality of the old AHI and Sound Prefs together and introduces support for multi-channel sound device tests and new sound datatype as well as updating the GUI. The Time Prefs features a modern GUI using the new datesheet and clock gadget classes. The time can even be set by clicking on the hands of the clock and spinning them around!

Gadgets and Classes updated and added
To take advantage of the new gadgets and classes, almost all the software has been transitioned to utilise them in an ongoing rolling upgrade programme.

A-EON would like to take this opportunity to publically thank the team as a whole: the developers, beta testers, translators, graphic artists. Their dedication and enthusiasm to progress the platform has made this release possible. Please check the "credits" section in the Enhancer Software to see a list of the contributors to this project.

@amigakit
I tried the download again today and it downloaded successfully. When I compare the files in the successful download to yesterdays failed files, I see that it was the manifest file that failed to be completely downloaded (processed ?). The main enhancer file from yesterday is identical to the one from today's download.

First of all, great work! Very nice update! I haven't come around to buy this yet but I will eventually :) . I was wondering though if the RDesktop-client wouldn't be a good project and perhaps something to include in the package? It works really well with Windows XP but needs to be updated and noone's working on it :( . Would be nice if it worked with Windows 10 I think. Any thoughts?

@hotrod

I do not use RDesktop much these days but appears to work OK with Windows 10 for me.

@Kas1e

Sure, a real Changelog mentionning ALL updates for ALL programs will be nice.

I'd be interested to know what Hyperion think about programs available in this package that replace OS components.

@kamelito
They probably dislike it, but aeon pay for devs and they can work faster on things which Hyperion may mark as non-necessary to worry. In end that can lead to mess of course. Like when one will update os with components with same names but different in versions. But probably that the only way now.

@kas1e

Some outcomes are rather "amusing". Eg. X5000 users must pay for SFS - we all others got this FS with the OS.

Which reminds me I should buy Enhancer Software Special Edition as soon as possible.

@A-Eon

I have the Standard version and I am also the owner of RadeonHD V2.x driver.

But I am not getting updates for RadeonHD V2.x driver..

Will you offer upgrade from Standart Edition to Plus Edition ?

Or will you offer updates for RadeonHD V2.x owners ?

@Pavlor

SFS is of course included with the Enhancer Software and fully licenced from Joerg Strohmayer.

We have given dealers the option of bundling the Enhancer Software (and therefore SFS) with every X5000. You may notice dealers advertising the software with their X5000 systems.

Thanks for the order of the Enhancer Software Special Edition- every copy sold is important because it helps us pay the developers for the next update.

Good Browser and Printer Drivers? Opera and Samsung colour laser would be ok with the A1.

Ok, waiting state and humour mode on.

IIRC, someone (maybe Hans?) advised to steer clear of GDDR3 memory. The R7 240 seems to have GDDR3 memory. Can anyone update on this? Is GDDR3 memory problematic?

I used a Radeon R7 240 with DDR3 VRAM when working on the Oland support. It works fine. For Oland cards, I think DDR3 is okay. My advice is still to stick to GDDR5 on higher-end cards. If anything, the higher bandwidth GDDR5 gives is worth it.

The best way to get a working card is to look at the compatibility list for cards that people have already tried.

Hans

"Same" question regarding Enhancer Software 1.1 (in September)...
http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=7810&start=80#98222

Can an update (to 2.21) be made available from AMIStore?

@TrevorDick

Thanks for the answer Trevor! To be honest I haven't tried it with Windows 10. It's been like this, it worked fine with XP including sound over network. With Vista it still worked fine but not sound. With 7 there where redrawing issues when moving Windows in well... Windows. With 8.x it didn't work at all and I haven't tried with 10 to be honest.

I still think that an update would be nice but on the other hand, there are more important software needed and what you do is actually amazing and I'm very greatfull for it :) . It was just a thought since letting it go to waste seems so sad. Just newer icons for the GUI would be nice. It worked so well with AOS 4.0 and Windows XP and I kind of miss that, that's all, but if it works fine like you wrote I'll shut up and give it a try :) .

This is a bit OT so thank you again for the update, I will purchase it ASAP for sure.

Lots of interesting stuff there.

My main concern is clutter with the operating system, incompatibility and so on.
